Wings of A Butterfly

My date was creepy...
I was like "Oh hell naw" and had my friend call me with a fake emergency <.<

But in any case, I've come to a decision about the next chapter so I'll be working on it this weekend. Finally got through about 90% of March Madness so I've got a bit of free time on my hands now :D

Much Love,

Really am enjoying this story and would love to read more about these guys.

Luke has been through a lot of heartache. Why is it that the innocent, open, loving people are always the ones run over by the Mack Trucks of life?

You are a gifted writer. Thank you for sharing your talents with us.

This comment regarding the Mac trucks really fired my... something. Something occurred to me, or, rather I remembered something that I felt was important to share: I think in our lives we are all steam rolled by the Mac trucks. I think it is our choices, how we choose to react, or to not react, or to avoid reacting altogether that ultimately determines whether we are innocent, open, and loving people, or fettered, repellent, and embittered people. I understand that my existence is very finite in duration and scope when cast against creation, and I will certainly not witness or learn nearly enough to quench my thirst. That is to say, I admit that my take on this may quite possibly be wrong. Nonetheless, it has been my experience that individuals such as Lucas are those who choose to believe in and pursue the light despite the pains that are inherent to sentient life. They are "forged."

I believe that we all have our trials, and, as I like to say, I believe that we are each honed or broken by them. And I believe that the difference is choice. This very instance of decision is the crux of free will, and from a religious standpoint I feel this is our task or test in this life.

I've robbed the words of many people to form a little litany or motto. I pray in difficult situations "for the grace and civility to act in beauty and courage." Corny as heck, but it's helpful for me. Or maybe it's just the delusion of a mad man!

Sorry to be so late to the party. My eyes are dry and stinging, but I'm hooked. I think I'll indulge in a couple more chapters at any rate, before retiring.

I am very thankful to find so many keen and collected minds in one place. I'm soaking it up and I feel so spoiled! I have butterflies in my stomach reading all of your words!

Trying to write the next chapter but having a hard time thinking of something to fill in the blanks between what I want to end the chapter with and what I started the chapter with.

Should be done in a few days give or take...

Much Love,

between this and "graduation" i dont know which one i love more. I find myself reading a chapter and three hours later im still reading chapters...and its very hard to keep my attention. You sir have a really good talent

First of all, this chapter has for some reason been a pain in the ass to write.

Second of all, I am almost finished and even have my idea for the next chapter so I should be able to start cranking them out a lot faster than I have been.

I don't know why, but I got stuck on a particular scene and every time I tried to sit down and write, I was immediately turned off to the idea of writing any more. But I eventually got past it and the chapter just needs a few finishing touches and then it'll be off to my editor. I'm sorry I've kept you all waiting for the update. It shouldn't be long now.

I know I say that every time, but I'm serious now :P

Much Love,

ITC,
These things happen.
There's a reason for it, somewhere, and it will be revealed in its own time to you.

Take care.

Alright boys, here it is. I know it took a lot longer than I anticipated to write this chapter, but I made it a little longer to make up for that. I've sorted out the story in my head a little bit and I regret to say that the end is coming up soon for these boys. We're at least 6-7 chapters away from putting a seal on this story for a while so that I may pursue a new set of characters who have been poking around in my mind for a while now.

But enough of that. You all want to read the next chapter so I won't keep you waiting any longer :)

Wings of A Butterfly

Chapter Twenty-Nine:

I'm Hunting Wabbit Eggs

If life were like a movie, the next couple weeks between Lucas and I would be a sappy montage with the catchy, upbeat song playing in the background. Life was perfect and calm for us considering what the last couple of months had been like. As perfect and calm as everything was, the most important thing was that it was normal. I had learned the hard way that family didn't always mean the people you shared blood with or the people you came from, and I was given the opportunity to build a family of my own choosing.

For the next few weeks, we worked into a pretty solid routine. In the mornings my alarm would go off and I'd go out and make a pot of coffee. Once I had a cup I'd turn on the shower and wait for the water to warm up a bit. It never failed that once I was in the shower for about five minutes, the bathroom door would open and Lucas would jump in the shower with me to give me both a good morning kiss and a pat on the butt.

Once we were done, I'd put on my robe and go back into the kitchen to fry up some eggs while Lucas went and got dressed. By the time he came back out he'd be fully dressed with his hair lying down flat on his head. As he sat down to eat, I'd be getting up to put my dishes in the sink and go back into the bedroom to get dressed myself. When I was done I would go back into the bathroom to fix up my hair, put lotion on my face, and of course put on some deodorant.

Every day without failure, Lucas would be trying to get his hair to spike in front and would always be failing miserably. So, I would come in, help him spike it, and then turn my attention to my own appearance. With a kiss at the door, Lucas would be off to his class and I would go back into the living room to go over whatever assignment before my own class started.

After my first class I would have lunch with Cherilyn or Carly or whoever else had a break between classes that day. By the time I was done with classes the sun was already setting so I would head straight home and walk in to see Lucas hard at work doing his assignments at the kitchen table. I would walk in, kiss the top of his head as to not break his concentration too much, and kick my shoes off by the counter. Most of the time I sat down with him and did my own assignments, but every now and then I would just sit there watching him.

When he finished, he would start cooking dinner for the both of us and I would turn on the TV to whatever was on that we both liked. Most of the time it was Friends, but there were a few days where we watched Seinfeld together. After dinner we would sit on the couch watching the TV until we both started getting tired and with a smile, we would shut off the TV and hand in hand walk to the bedroom. Our subtle hints of passion toward each other during the day would finally be let loose in a loud roar as soon as the door was shut.

I loved nothing more than making love to Lucas. His touch was so gentle and careful, yet so full of passion and vitality that I felt safer in his arms than anywhere else. It was when he pushed his magnificent manhood inside of me that I felt complete, as if he was the missing piece of me all along. The wall I had around my heart before I met him had only been there so he could be the one to tear it down.

Unfortunately, our routine was rudely interrupted by Midterms at the end of March. The Saturday before Midterm week, I woke up to find Lucas already out of bed. I wandered out of the bedroom and found him in the kitchen surrounded by books. I went along with my morning routine and later joined him at the table to begin my own studying. I felt bad how much more studying Lucas had to do. Over the past couple months, his grades had been steadily slipping due to the events that had occurred.

Everything we had gone through since coming back to school had him so stressed out most of the time that he barely spent any time doing school work. He had missed classes, forgotten homework assignments, even got a C on a test he wasn't prepared for; all because of Travis being in the hospital, the nightmares, the therapy sessions, and the whole thing with me and my dad. I didn't feel responsible for those things (though a few of them wouldn't have happened if I weren't around); I just felt bad that he had to struggle so much to catch up.

For two whole days, Lucas barely moved from the kitchen table. If he did, it was to use the bathroom or to go to bed. Monday came and went and he got one test out of the way and had until Wednesday before his next two. I don't think there was one night that week that I didn't go to bed alone and wake up alone. Thursday evening, I came home from one of my own exams to find him asleep on the table. I tried shaking him but he was sound asleep.

“Lucas,” I whispered into his ear.

He groaned softly in his sleep. Not wanting him to mess up his back sleeping the way he was, I blew a puff of air into his ear which startled him.

“Oh crap! It's eight!” he yelled, “I'm gonna be late!”
“Luke, calm down,” I said grabbing his arm, “It's eight PM, your test isn't until morning.”
“It's eight PM?” he asked, “You're sure?”
I nodded.
“Okay, that's really good news,” he said, sitting back down.
“Babe, go get some sleep,” I said, “You look like you've been up for three days straight.”
“No comment,” he said, “I can't go to sleep now, Aaron. I'm still not ready for this last test.”
“Alright, well do you need any help?” I asked.
“No, I'm okay,” he said.
“How ‘bout some coffee then?” I asked.
“Sure, that sounds good.”
“Have you eaten yet?” I asked.
“Not for a while, no,” he said.
“Okay, I'll make you something to eat too.”
“Thanks, babe,” he said.

I dropped some coffee in the pot and turned it on while I gathered the ingredients to make an omelet for Lucas. I didn't realize what I had done with it until Lucas commented on it. Apparently I put bacon bits in it, which is what my mom always put in hers. He offered me half of it, but I turned it down. With a kiss on the forehead and a squeeze on the shoulder, I made him promise me he'd get some sleep. After that, I went into the bedroom and crashed on the bed.

I was asleep in minutes.

* * *

The next morning when I woke up, I was still in my clothes from the day before. Lucas's side of the bed was still made up and his alarm clock was shut off. I sat up and rubbed my eyes as I slowly became aware of how dry my throat felt. I tried coughing a couple of times but it felt really scratchy. I wiped some sweat from my brow and stood from the bed to get a glass of water.

It's definitely getting warmer out.

I went out into the kitchen to see it completely vacated. There was more coffee in the pot than I had left the night before and a note on the fridge from Lucas. I rubbed my eyes again to get rid of the morning grogginess and get them to focus.

Thanks for the omelet babe, made you one in return.
Love you.

I smiled and opened the fridge to see an omelet sitting on a plate on the top shelf. After gobbling down my breakfast and chugging a cup of coffee, I hopped into the shower and got ready for my last midterm. Unfortunately, it was far from the easiest. I had been at the library all day the day before researching for the five page essay we had to write on the spot with one page of handwritten notes (front and back) to work with.

After I got dressed, I grabbed my bag and my phone and headed out the door. The sun was out and there was a gentle breeze gliding past as I walked down the street toward campus. All in all, I could tell it was going to be a beautiful day. Unfortunately for me, I was going to be spending a nice amount of it in the library doing some last minute studying and in my Political Science class taking my midterm. As I rounded the corner of the English building and walked toward the library, I couldn't help but think about what next week would be like.

My thoughts were flooded with the opportunity to be completely alone with Lucas and have no distractions at all. He wouldn't admit it, but I knew he planned on taking me to Travis's cabin. It was the only place either of us could think of that was secluded enough for us to be completely alone. I hated the thought of closing ourselves off from the world for a whole week, especially when Carly's wedding was getting so close and I knew she needed help. But I took comfort in the fact that her mom and aunts were going to be in town helping her with all the complicated stuff.

I would never admit it to anyone, but she was starting to drive me nuts with her obsession about the wedding and her annoying ability to turn any conversation toward that topic. I guess I was actually looking forward to getting away from everyone for a while...

* * *

Thump! Thump!

Our bags dropped to the floor as we stepped inside the large, empty cabin. Lucas put his arm around me and pulled me close to him. Our lips were millimeters away from each other when his eyes popped open and his head perked up. He put his finger to my lips and stopped me from moving forward. I blinked and gave him a questioning look.

“Shh,” he said.
“What?” I whispered.
“Do you hear that?” he whispered looking around us.
“I don't hear anything, Lucas,” I said.
“Exactly,” he said at normal volume, “Just you and me.”
He kissed my left cheek and said, “No distractions.”
He kissed my right cheek, “No drama.”

He kissed my lips this time. His hand went from my waist to my ass and pulled my crotch into his leg. My stiffening cock pressed into his thigh and I felt his smile break our kiss. He started to pull away, but I pulled him back into me and kept the kiss going. I started backing up toward the stairs and pulled him with me, keeping the kiss intact while unbuttoning my shorts with one hand.

My off-white cargo shorts fell to the floor as we began ascending the steps together. Lucas lifted up his shirt and tossed it behind him. He pushed his chest up against mine and started kissing my neck as he fondled my crotch. I slid my hands down the back of his jean shorts and grabbed a handful of ass. When we reached the top of the stairs, I tripped and fell backwards over the top step and pulled Lucas down with me.

He laughed as he flattened me beneath him and I joined him when I caught my breath. He stood and lifted me to my feet. I was suddenly overwhelmed with a flashback of the day we met, except this time we were both half naked and couldn't keep our hands off each other. I grabbed him by the waist of his shorts and pulled him into the bedroom with the number “3” by the door.

I pulled him to the bed and sat down on the edge as my hands explored his back. His lips found their way to my neck and he pressed their succulence against my clavicle. With soft, ghostlike gentleness he slid his fingers along the base of my jawbone. I pushed his loose shorts around his hips and they dropped to the floor. I leaned back to take in the sight of his beautiful body in nothing but his boxer briefs. With a smile on both of our faces, he lifted my shirt off of my body and pushed me back onto the bed.

His hands grabbed my wrists and pushed them above my head as his lips teased mine. He smiled as I tried to move closer and kiss him, but he held me in place and continued to tease me. He stuck out his tongue and held the tip against my chin. As he pulled it back into his mouth, he pushed his lips against my skin and began kissing his way down my neck to my stomach. He stopped at the waistband of my underwear and hooked his fingers underneath.

With one fluid motion, Lucas pushed my underwear off and took my entire cock into his mouth. I let out a sharp gasp from his sudden wild animal vitality. But he was still gentle with every motion he made. I lay back as he started working his mouth on my tool and it wasn't long until he had me writhing beneath him. He moaned with a mouthful of cock and it drove me crazy.

“Oh God, Lucas,” I gasped.

I felt the familiar tingle that started in the core of my balls and tried to get him to stop, but the sensations were phenomenal. I couldn't let go of the sheets to push his head away and tell him I was close, so it came out in a loud roar.

“Luke, stop!”

He froze and looked up at me with complete terror on his face. I sat up and tried to catch my breath. Everything he had been doing had left me as winded as if I had run six miles nonstop. I looked up to his face and saw that he was still worried and smiled to let him know I was okay.

“What's wrong?” he asked.
“I was about to cum,” I said with a chuckle.
“Damn, already?” he asked.
“Yeah,” I said, “but not anymore.”

I flung my arm out and grabbed the back of his neck to pull his face into mine. Our lips locked together again and his hands went on either side of me to gently ease me onto my back. His body pressed into mine as he lay on top of me with his knees on either side of me and his tongue trying to tie itself in a knot with mine. I pulled my legs up and pushed my ass against his lap. He pulled his lips away with a quizzical look on his face.

I knew what he wanted to say and I just put a finger to his lips. I knew if he asked the question on his mind I might not go through with it. I wanted to feel only him inside me. I had been thinking about it for a while until then and it was something I was sure I wanted. After all, I knew Luke was clean and Kevin had at least had the decency to use a rubber when he attacked me so I was sure I was clean as well.

“I trust you,” I whispered into his ear.
“I love you,” he whispered back.

With that, he leaned over to the nightstand and pulled out his bottle of lube. He put extra lube on both his cock and my hole this time to make the process easier. I could feel his heart beating faster as I ran my hand over his chest. His eyes glistened in the light from the window as a nervous smile appeared across his face.

When he was ready, I felt a poke against my hole. I spread my legs a little more and he started pushing his way in. It was a little rough and cold at first, but it eventually became more pleasant. His abs flexed with every thrust and each time he pushed all the way in, I released a soft grunt. I bit my lip and put my hands on his shoulders. A part of me was really getting into this romantically, so I pushed him back a little and sat up.

My legs wrapped around his back as we managed an upright position. His arms enveloped me and his cock was encased inside me. We just sat there for a few minutes as our lips mashed together. It was as if at that moment, we were both complete. I felt as if I was just one half of one soul that was lost for so long, and I had finally found my other half in Lucas. Feeling him inside of me made me never want to let him go.

I was about to lie back when he started breathing heavily to signify his approaching orgasm. I was amazed that he was able to reach it without us even doing anything. We never talked about it, but I always thought he may have been feeling the same way I was. I pushed myself onto him more and held him tightly against me as his body started shaking with the intensity of his explosion.

I felt his hot juice spray inside of me and was almost forced into the air from how fast it shot out. I let out a large moan when I felt it. I felt backwards when he finished shooting and his hands started working on bringing me my own orgasm. Not only did he never pull himself out of me the whole time, but he also never went soft the whole time. Within minutes my climax came rushing forward in a fountain of built up stress.

When I was emptied, Lucas collapsed on top of me and started laughing. I couldn't help but join his laughter and try to push him off of me. He resisted and started tickling me until I squirmed my way out from underneath him. He got up to corner me but I ran out of the room with a big smile on my face. He chased me down the stairs and out the door. Our naked bodies were bathed in the light of the setting sun. I made my way to the lake outside and jumped into the water. When I surfaced I saw Lucas standing at the edge of the small docks.

“You afraid of the water?” I asked.
“It's too cold,” he said.
“No it's not; it's perfect,” I said.
“Uh uh,” he said shaking his head.

I swam up to the pier as he sat down with his toes dangling above the water.

“Come on,” I said, “Ple-e-ease?”
“Never!” he said.
“Well then,” I said grabbing his arm, “I guess I'll force you.”

I pulled his arm and he fell into the water. His head immediately popped up out of the water and he swam over to me and dunked me underneath. Our laughter filled the emptiness of our surrounding environment as hours passed.

* * *

We were still outside long after the sun had gone down. It was warm outside that night so when we got out of the water, we decided to lay in the grassy area behind the house. We stared up at the stars in the sky that was brightly lit by the full moon. We spent time trying to find patterns in the stars until the wind picked up and forced us to go inside.

He pulled clothes out of our suitcases while I grabbed towels from the hall closet and turned on the shower. Together we washed the dirt and crap from the lake off of each other and then dried each other off. When the two of us were dressed, we drove into town and found some place to eat and then walked to the park from the restaurant where we sat and talked.

“You know, the twins keep talking about you,” he said.
“They do?” I asked.
“Yeah,” he said, “Gina told me they can't wait to see you this weekend.”
“Why?” I asked.
“They said something about Lucas's awesome girlfriend playing hide and seek with them at the surprise party,” he said.

I couldn't help but let out a loud laugh.

“I guess we need to re-explain the concept to them huh?” I asked.
“I dunno,” he said, “I kinda like that they think you're the girl.”
“No way!” I said, “You're way more of a girl than I am.”
“I'm more man than you can handle,” he said flashing a beautiful grin.
“That sounds like a challenge,” I said.
“Maybe it is,” he said as his hand found mine.

We watched the people passing by and sat there next to each other as if it had always been this way. Lucas had a magnificent quality to make me forget what it was like before we met. I couldn't imagine life without him anymore and as time went on, it was hard to imagine that there even was a life without him. He was the Gumby to my Pokey the way he filled the air with his adventurous spirit. His outlook on life was that it's too short to spend worrying about tomorrow.

If there was anything I was jealous of Lucas for, it was that.

* * *

The rest of the week flew by with the two of us constantly all over each other. Every time we made eye contact, it's like something clicked in both of us at the same time and we were almost instantly naked. Maybe it was the fact that Summer was getting closer and he'd be leaving soon. Maybe it was just the fact that Midterms stressed us both out so much. Whatever the reason was, it was the best week I had experienced with Lucas so far.

Unfortunately, it didn't last the whole week. On Thursday we had to pack up our things and head out to Lucas's house. He had promised his mom we'd spend at least a few days at home before we had to go back to school. I pouted the whole time we were packing and he kept teasing me about it, but we were eventually in the car and driving home within a couple of hours.

It's weird that I call it “home” now. I don't think I've ever actually had that feeling before. Even when growing up with my mom, life was so broken for the both of us that my house never felt like a real home to me. Henry's house felt more like a home than my own, but it still wasn't fitting for me. Ever since I found a family in Lucas, one that I can be proud to call family, it was as if I had found what I didn't even know I was looking for.

By the time we got home, Anne was out in the yard planting flowers everywhere and Gary was working on his car with Kyle's help. When we pulled up, they all came out to greet us with hugs and then returned to their work. Lucas and I went inside to both grab some lunch and take a nap as we hadn't slept very well the night before. I woke up with his face on my chest and ran my fingers through his hair to wake him up.

His gorgeous hazel eyes fluttered open as he smiled. Every time he smiled, I could never figure out how it was possible to love someone so much. Everything about Lucas was so precious, so incredible, I felt as if I would break if anything ever happened to him...

* * *

Easter at the Harper's was much different than Christmas was. We all woke up early to have a nice, sit-down breakfast together and went to the early church service. When it came time for a private prayer, all I could do was give thanks for having a family that cared so much for me to involve me in their traditions.

It was around noon by the time the service let out. We went home for a quick lunch and once we were all finished, we loaded up in the car and headed out for Grandma Harper's. We were the last ones there; Lucas told me they always were because the church service went so long. I saw the bright tan SUV that belonged to Anne's parents parked across the street from Grandma Harper's house. We parked behind them and got out of the car.

The gleeful cheers of young children could be heard coming from the back yard as we approached the large front porch of Grandma Harper's house. We made our rounds between Lucas's aunts and uncles and the two of us went outside to find Aunt Gina who was on shift to watch the kids. Audrey and Brianna were also outside playing with one of Bob and Patty's daughters who I learned was named Piper. I rather liked that name despite the fact that she would have nothing to do with me because of Audrey and Brianna's influence.

Aunt Gina was ecstatic to see both of us and grabbed us up in a big hug. The twins heard her high pitched squeal and came running at us. Jacob went to Lucas and Aly went to me. After we both received a sufficient hug from them, they traded and gave another one to the other. I couldn't help but laugh when they were finished.

We were immediately commanded by the twins to play hide and seek with them so Lucas and I played rock, paper, scissors to see who was “it”. Lucas, of course lost and the three of us ran off into the house. The game lasted for about an hour when Grandma Harper announced that it was time for the big Easter Egg hunt. Lucas, Audrey, Brianna and I watched all the kids inside while the adults hid the eggs in the back yard.

Lucas and I took the twins while the rest were watched by their parents and we helped them find the eggs. Lucas even grabbed one he had hidden in a tree while we were playing hide and seek in order to put the twins a bit ahead. By the time we were all finished and lined up for the official count, the twins came in second place to Piper who was being helped by Audrey and Brianna. Lucas gave them a sharp look as a smug grin crossed both of their faces.

After the hunt, everyone went back inside to wait for dinner. Lucas and I helped in the kitchen while Audrey hovered around in the next room. I bet you're wondering why I'm mentioning these two so much... well what happened next will explain it. Lucas went to the bathroom to wash the stuffing off of his hands because the sink was full of potatoes being peeled by Gram and Gramps. When he didn't come right back after a few minutes, I went to go find him.

I was halfway down the hall when I heard the argument.

“Yeah, well two can play at that game, Lucas,” Audrey said, “If you're gonna cheat then we can too.”
“You're making way too big of a deal out of this,” he said, “It's just a game for Christ's sake.”
“A game you lost,” Brianna said.
“Whatever,” Lucas said, “Get out of the way.”
“Don't tell us what to do!” Audrey said.
“What's going on?” I asked.

They both turned around and shot me a mean look.

“Oh look, it's the little queer's girlfriend come to the rescue,” Brianna said.
“Excuse me?” I said.
“You heard what I said,” she retorted, “Why don't you go run along and draw rainbows, Nancy?”
“Leave him alone,” Lucas said, “He hasn't done anything to you.”
“His faggotry is more than enough harm,” Audrey said.
“AUDREY ELIZABETH SAWYER!”

We all turned around to see Grandma Harper standing at the end of the hallway.

“You do NOT speak that way to people,” she said, “Not in my house young lady!”

More people came piling into the hallway to see what the commotion was.

“Mom, what's going on?” Jackie asked.
“Your daughter just said something very hateful,” Grandma Harper said.
“So?” Jackie said.
“So? So?!” Grandma Harper's face started turning red.
“Mom, calm down,” she said, “You're going to give yourself a stroke.”
“Jacqueline,” she said calmly, “If you do not teach your daughter that we do not talk about each other that way in this house... then maybe the four of you should leave.”
“Mom...”
“I'm dead serious,” she said, “Go.”
“Fine,” she said, “If that's what you want. Come on girls.”

She grabbed Audrey and Brianna by the wrist and walked out the door.

“Hank!” She shouted from the front door, “Move your ass!”

When they were gone, everyone went back to their own business. Grandma Harper came up to me and put her hands gently on either side of my face.

“Are you okay, sweetheart?” she asked.
“Yeah, I'm fine,” I said, “Thanks.”

She smiled and patted me on the face. When she went back into the kitchen I turned around and looked at Lucas. He was staring at the floor and I knew he felt bad about what happened. I walked over to him and put my finger under his chin to make him look at me.

“You okay?” I asked.
“Not really,” he said.
“What happened?” I asked.
“Well, I guess I kinda started it,” he said, “I made some passive-aggressive remark about what happened and they jumped all over me. I knew they'd do it but I didn't think they'd go that far. I'm so sorry you got dragged into it.”
“No, it's fine, babe,” I said, “Don't worry about it.”

The rest of the night was pretty uneventful. I felt bad that Lucas felt responsible for what happened, but I kept trying to reassure him that something like that would have happened eventually. I told him we were lucky Grandma Harper walked in when it did happen.

When we got home that night, the two of us went directly upstairs to take a quick shower together and head to bed. We would be waking up especially early the next morning to drive back to school in time for our first classes. His arms felt significantly warmer around me that night, almost as if he were trying to protect me still. I guess I really was the girlfriend.

* * *

We got back with ten minutes to spare the next morning and made it to class on time. By the time the day was over, we were both so exhausted that we almost fell asleep the moment we each got inside. Unfortunately, Carly wanted to come over and talk more about the wedding so I had to make a pot of coffee. Lucas had a little bit and tried to get a head start on his assignments.

When I heard a knock on the door, I downed my cup of coffee and went to answer it. Carly was on the other side and looked ridiculously exhausted.

“Hey, are you okay?” I asked, “You look like you haven't slept in days,”
“It's been a rough week,” she said.
“Wait a second...” I said.
“What?” she asked.
“There's something different about you,” I said.

I eyed her up and down at the doorway and noticed a few things.

“Oh my God... are you pr-” she shushed me and pulled me outside and shut the door.
“Don't say it,” she said.
“Oh my God, Carly, you are!” I said.
“Aaron, be quiet,” she whispered, “I don't want anyone to know yet.”
“Did you tell Mike yet?” I asked.
“No,” she said crossing her arms, “And I don't know if I will.”
“What do you mean?” I asked with a confused grin, “You have to tell him sometime don't...”

A guilty look crossed her face as she looked away from me.

“Carly, you're not thinking...”
“I don't know, Aaron,” she said, “I can barely bring myself to consider it but we're only twenty-two. We're graduating soon and Mike and I both have careers lined up afterward.”
“Carly...”
“Aaron, don't make this harder than it is okay?” she said, “But I don't want this to ruin everything.”
“How can you say that without knowing how Mike feels?” I asked.
“Because my parents had me when they were young, Aaron,” she said, “They put their lives off until I was old enough to take care of myself. As soon as I get married, they're going to start traveling the world.”
“But Carly...”
“Look, Aaron, we can't handle this on our own right now,” she said.
“But if you told your parents.”
“I could never do that to them,” she said.
“Why not? If you told them they might stay,” I said.
“Exactly. I don't want them to,” she said, “They've given up enough for me already.”
“Carly please think about this a little more,” I said.
“Why? We can't do this alone,” she said.
“You will never be alone,” I said grabbing her shoulders, “You will always have me. And Lucas too.”
“Aaron,” she said.
“At least find out what Mike thinks,” I said, “Then the two of you can make this decision together.”
“I don't know, Aaron,” she said.
“He deserves to know Carly,” I said.

She looked conflicted as she weighed the options in her head. She nodded her head and tears started rolling down her cheeks. I pulled her towards me and gave her a gentle hug as she cried softly. When she was done she looked up at me with her bright green eyes.

“Thanks, Aaron,” she said.
“It's the least I could do for everything you've done for me,” I said, “And remember you will always have us no matter what.”

Hey ITC,

What a awesome chapter. I am envious of Aaron and Lucas and the bond they have. The romance is as special as their relationship. So well worth the wait and I think you did an fantastic job tying it all together. The new twist concerning Carly is very interesting. Looking forward to more.

ITC,
A super intense chapter.
The love between the boys, with some desperately needed alone time, the immediate family dynamics of Luke's family so supportive, as is Granny Harper. Plus the typical ass holes and their kids.

Life is not always a bowl of cherries. Or, maybe it is, but the bowl has some rotten ones.

Great depth of development, ITC.

You put a lot of thought into this. Congrats on a well written chapter:)

Thank you guys :)

I worked really hard on this chapter for a while and this chapter made some really tough decisions for me as to where I should take the story.

One thing is for certain though, the ending will probably take me a couple months to get through and make sure it ties up as many loose ends as it can so don't you worry, even though the end is coming soon, it'll take a while before it actually comes to a close.

And thank you guys for commenting and keeping me interested in this story :D It's really great to know that even after all this time people are interested in what happens next.

Much Love,

JNP,
Welcome to JUB and the Story Board!
There are lots of great stories to search out and explore.

If you like some light banter back and forth - check out fun and games, too.

Yeah I understand Johan. I myself have come to care a lot about Aaron and Lucas. However, there is another story that needs to be told and I'm sure all of us are going to fall in love with the next two boys I write about. I've been jotting down ideas for the first chapter for a while now and I'm sure it'll be ready not long after this story finishes. So you won't be without my writing for very long :)

And I would just like to give a nice, warm welcome to justnotperfect. This board is FULL of writers whom I think are leagues ahead of me, so if you like my story you'll want to check out some others. My personal favorites are Watching Brad by gsdx and Senior Year by Pyramus11 (even though that story has been left incomplete, it's still one of my favorites). Touching Nick was also a great read, but it hasn't been on the front page in a long time.

Much Love,
- ITC

Just sent the next chapter to my editor. He should have it done by tomorrow night and as soon as he sends it back I shall post it. Crankin these motherfucks out like crazy now that I have nothing eating away my time and attention span :D

Much Love,

Wings of A Butterfly

Chapter Thirty:

Sing Me A Lullaby

“I want this one, Mom,” I said, reaching for a box of cereal.
“How much does it cost, Aaron?” Mom asked.
“Three dollars,” I said.
“Okay,” she said, “Put it in the basket.”

With a big smile on my face, I dropped the box of Lucky Charms into the shopping cart and grabbed onto my mom's shirt as she pushed the cart down the aisle. I looked down at my cowboy boots as I was walking, holding on tightly to Mom's shirt like she instructed to make sure I was always right next to her. We made our way up to the deli counter where the nice woman who gave me quarters was slicing a ham to refill the refrigerated display window.

“Aaron!” she exclaimed when she saw me, “How is my favorite little man?”
“Good!” I said with my hands held out.
She let out a laugh and handed me a few quarters which I immediately took to the gumball machines yelling, “Thank you!” behind me.

I was about to stick my quarters in and get a sticker when I noticed the new crane machine they installed. I decided to play that instead of getting a sticker so I stepped over to it and stuck my quarters in the slot. That's when a boy, no younger than seven or eight, came over to me. That boy would turn out to be Henry, the kid I would latch on to in order to survive the rest of my school career. I turned to him just as I was about to hit start and he smiled at me.

“Those are really hard,” he said, “Want me to get something for you?”
I nodded and pointed at the blue bear sitting on top.
“No problem,” he said still smiling.

I was amazed how talented he was. He was very meticulous about his movements and the precision he had was almost like watching an artist at work. When the claw dropped, my eyes widened as it wrapped around the blue bear and lifted it into the air. I had a huge smile on my face when it dropped into the slot and the boy pulled it out. He was smiling just as much when he pulled the bear out and handed it to me.

“Thank you!” I said.
“You're welcome,” he said, “What's your name?”
“Aaron,” I said.
“Well, Aaron,” he said patting me on the back, “You take care of that bear, okay?”
“I will!” I said running off to my mom.

When I showed her the bear and told her about the boy I had just met, she told me how proud she was of me for making a friend. She took my hand and we went through the rest of the store grabbing things that we would need for the rest of the week. I always felt safe when I was with her. It didn't matter where I was; if I was with my mom, she had this quality to make me feel like I never had to worry. Even if we were lost, as long as she was there I was never scared.

* * *

When I woke up from my dream, I had the biggest smile on my face. The memories of my mom hadn't faded at all yet, even though I was afraid that they might. I haven't told Lucas a lot that I remember about my mom because, for some reason, I felt like sharing them would make them less special to me, or that I might forget them if I didn't keep them to myself.

Lucas stirred next to me and noticed the smile on my face. His arms tightened around my back and pulled me closer to him. Our lips lightly touched each other as he teased me by playing hard to kiss. My arm flew up and grabbed his head to pull his lips into mine. My fingers grasped his sandy blonde hair and forced his face into mine. I couldn't find a way to express how everything about Lucas drove my senses crazy. In a way, he was just perfect.

But as everything else goes, even our perfect moments had to end. We both got up and quickly jumped into our morning routine again. Over breakfast Lucas told me that Cherilyn's birthday was in a week and he wanted to throw her a birthday party like she had done for him. I excitedly agreed and wrote down in my planner what I needed to do to get ready for it.

“I'm gonna go buy some stuff after class today then,” I said while washing my dishes, “You wanna come?”
“Actually, Cherilyn and I are going to the library. Our Art project is due in a week so we want to get it done together,” he said as he stood up and came around the counter to put his dishes in the sink.
“Oh, alright,” I said, “Do you need any supplies while I'm at the store?”
“No,” he said, “I'm covered. Thanks though, babe.”

He wrapped his arm around my side and kissed my cheek.

“I'll see you tonight,” he said, “Love you.”
“Love you too,” I said as he left.

* * *

Carly and I were walking around outside. The sun had barely gone down and she was feeling really nauseous and needed to cool off. The air was nice outside; it hadn't gotten too hot out yet and the weather had been perfect lately. She walked particularly close to me but kept relatively silent the entire time. I guess she just wanted a shoulder to lean on in case she broke down again. I let her organize her thoughts and just kept her company as we walked.

“Aaron,” she said in a hushed voice.
“What's up?” I asked.
“Do you really think I can handle this?” she asked.
“Of course,” I said.
“How can you be sure?” she asked.
“Because I know you,” I said, “You're the most maternal and loving person I know. If anyone can handle being a mother, it's you.”
“But, what if you're wrong?” she asked.
“I'm not,” I said, “Trust me.”
“I do trust you,” she said, “I don't know if I trust myself though.”
“Carly,” I said as I stopped next to her, “Do you remember how I was when Lucas kissed me the first time?”
“Yeah,” she said, “You freaked out because you didn't know how to respond to it.”
“And what did you tell me?” I asked.
“I told you that if you liked it then you should go kiss him again,” she said.
“Right,” I said, “And why did you tell me that?”
“Because...” she started, “I knew if I didn't tell you to then you wouldn't do it... and you would make a huge mistake if you didn't kiss him again.”
“Because you knew me so well,” I said, “You gave me advice that made me happier than I've ever been in my life.”
“And you're saying you're doing the same for me, right?” she asked.
“No,” I said, “I'm saying that you've been there to help me so many times... and I can never repay you for everything you've helped me through. But helping you through this would be the closest I can get.”
“I get it, Aaron,” she said, “Even if I can't handle it, you'll be there to make sure I can.”
“Exactly,” I said, “I love you, Car, and I won't let you fail... not at this.”
“Thank you, Aaron,” she said as she gave me a tight hug.
“Why don't you two come to Cherilyn's party next weekend,” I said, “I'll run interference to make sure no one notices you not drinking.”
“Thanks,” she said, giggling, “I'll think about it.”

I walked her back to her apartment when she was feeling better and walked home in the dim streetlights alone. The clouds of the incoming April showers were visible on the horizon from the waning moon in the sky. Two short months were left before Lucas had to leave for Los Angeles. I tried to make myself remember that even though he's leaving, I would still have all of my friends here to keep me busy. But every time I thought about it, it felt like it was the end of something great.

* * *

Unfortunately, Cherilyn spoiled our surprise. Lucas, apparently horrible at keeping secrets, couldn't come up with a good reason for her to stay in town Saturday night. After that, she became the queen of organization. She was born to be a leader; I could tell that right away when I met her. However, after the past three days I felt as though she should have German subtitles with the way she was barking orders at us.

One of the things Cherilyn demanded was to have a Karaoke machine set up. It cost a pretty penny to rent something for the night, but we managed to get it set up in time. Everything was going according to plan. Cherilyn and Lucas would walk in around seven that evening and she would act like she was surprised by the whole thing. I know it's kind of pathetic; but when she told me she was doing it so Lucas wouldn't feel bad about ruining the surprise I went along with it.

The two of us had about an hour and a half between everyone leaving and when he had to go take Cherilyn to dinner. Unfortunately, Sean wouldn't be able to come that night. There had been a family emergency back home so he took the weekend to make sure everything was okay. Usually we would have filled that time with anything we could think of, but instead we just sat on the couch and talked for a bit.

I ended up telling him about my dream and he told me that he didn't need to know everything about my mom if I didn't want to tell him. He said that my memories are there to comfort me at night and to know that somewhere out there, she was watching over me. If I decided to keep them to myself then that was my prerogative.

I don't know how he did it, but Lucas seemed to always know the right thing to say whenever I was feeling down. He always knew how to lift me up from whatever made me trip and fall. Ever since that first day we met, he's always been helping me to my feet and making sure I was stable enough to stand on my own. Even in certain times, he would give me the push I needed to pick myself up when I fell.

Looking at the karaoke machine, I asked him, “Do you sing?”
“Not in public,” he said with a chuckle.
“Sing for me,” I said.
“Maybe later,” he said, blushing.
“Come on!” I said.
“Oh alright,” he said, “How could I resist that face?”

He got up and went into the bedroom. When he came back he had his acoustic guitar in hand. He sat down on the coffee table across from me and held the guitar pick between his fingers. I can't believe after all this time, this was the first time I had heard him play. He strummed the pick across the strings to make sure they were in tune and then started playing a very slow, but haunting tune that I recognized right away. When he finally started singing, I was swept away with how beautiful he sounded.

“All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places,
Worn out face-e-es.
Bright and early for their daily races
Going nowhere,
going nowhe-e-ere.

And I find it kind of funny,
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you,
I find it hard to take.
When people run in circles it's a very, very
Mad World...”

When he stopped, he looked sheepishly up at me. When he saw the tear that was falling from my left eye, a smile crossed his face.

“I take it you liked it,” he said.
“Luke,” I said, “That was beautiful.”

He put the guitar on the floor and leaned it against the couch, then leaned forward and gave me a kiss. I threw my arm around his neck and pulled him closer. When I felt satisfied with the kiss, I let him go and he pulled back with dark red cheeks and an embarrassed smile on his face.

“Wow; if you liked it that much,” he said, “I can't wait to see what you do after what I sing tonight.”
“I thought you didn't sing in public,” I said smiling.
“Well, I do now,” he said.

I smiled at him as he moved the guitar and returned to his spot next to me on the couch. I was suddenly overwhelmed with a need to tell him how much he meant to me when he put his feet up on the coffee table and stretched his magnificent body out.

“Hey, Luke?” I said.
“What's up, babe?” he asked.
“I love you,” I said.
“I know,” he said, “But it's still nice to hear. I love you too.”
I giggled and said, “You know you're amazing, right?”
“Well, of course I do,” he said with a smile, “You won't stop reminding me.”
“Good,” I said, “Because when I'm with you, I can barely even remember the person I used to be.”
“I feel the same way, Aaron,” he said, “You brought out a new person in me and it's almost like that old person never existed.”
“Yeah, exactly,” I said.
“You have no idea how happy you make me, Aaron,” he said.
“I do,” I said, “Because you make me just as happy.”

He put his arm around my shoulders and hugged me into him. I took in his scent as I pressed the side of my face against his chest. I don't think the smile on my face left once for the next few hours. After Lucas got up to get ready for dinner, I started getting myself ready for the party. Not long after Lucas left, people started showing up. Carly was the first and she looked better than she had in a few days in her silky red dress.

“You know it's not formal right?” I asked.
“I'm not going to be able to wear this in a couple months so I want to use it while I can,” she said.
“That's a good reason, then,” I said smiling, “How are you holding up?”
“Great,” she said, “I'm going to tell Mike tonight.”
“Good,” I said, “Everything will work out, Carly; I just know it.”
“Thank you, Aaron,” she said.

More people showed up shortly after that and within twenty minutes, the apartment was full of people I had never seen before. Cherilyn had a lot more friends than I expected. She definitely put Carly's social butterfly personality to shame. One of the last people to show up though, was Travis. When he walked in, it was almost like a weight was lifted from my shoulders. I had been worrying about him for a while and seeing him put those worries to rest.

It wasn't long until people started getting into the alcohol. Mike grabbed a beer with Travis and the two of them started talking while Carly hovered around me as I talked to a few of Cherilyn and Lucas's acquaintances. She had a cup with club soda in it to look like some of the Smirnoff we had for the more party-centric people to drink and lose control. I told her to dump it when I saw it because I knew Mike would never buy her to be the kind to let loose that much.

I looked at the clock; ten minutes to seven. Lucas and Cherilyn should be here soon. I started trying to get everyone's attention, but it was Travis who got everyone to shut up and wait for the door to open. The knob turned and Lucas was the first one through the door. When the lights went on and everyone shouted surprise, you might have believed Cherilyn's performance too. She screamed with delight and grabbed Lucas by the wrist to pull him into a big hug.

When she had made her rounds and hugged everyone in the room, (and, trust me, that was a lot of hugs), she headed straight for the karaoke machine where she sang some crappy pop song but actually managed to make it sound good. When she was done, she went back to socializing and a few more people stepped up to sing crappy renditions of pop songs. Lucas and I stood together near the hallway watching everything happen with smiles on both of our faces.

For me, it was because of how ridiculous people were acting with only one or two beers in them. But I'm pretty sure Lucas was smiling because I was smiling. I always noticed that about him; he was never smiling if I wasn't. It wasn't until the billionth crappy song that Lucas finally decided to go up and sing his own. He was really nervous about it, though; and his hand couldn't stop shaking. He turned to me and looked me in the eyes, obviously looking for strength.

“You'll be fine,” I said.
How many times have I said that today?
“Just go up there and look at me, okay?” I said, “No one else is here. Pretend you're just singing in front of me like earlier.”
“Thanks, Aaron,” he said.

He tried to hang onto my hand for as long as possible as he walked over to the microphone. On his way there, he grabbed the electric guitar I had bought him for his birthday which was leaning against the wall. He plugged it into the amp and pushed the karaoke screen out of the way. He looked over at me as soon as he was set up but the extravagant setup caught half the room's attention. There were a lot of eyes on him, but I knew he was trying to keep his eyes on mine.

With that he started hitting the strings which reverberated through the amp to play the opening chords to a song that brought back a lot of memories for me. His voice was a little shaky at first but once he gathered his courage, he evened out and started smiling as he sang.

“Do you believe in magic?
In a young girl's heart
How the music can free her
whenever it starts.
And it's magic,
if the music is groovy.
It makes you feel happy
like an old time movie.

I'll tell ya bout the magic
and it'll free your soul
but it's like trying to tell a stranger
bout rock and roll.”

I was watching him with pure amazement in my eyes. It was clear how much he loved what he was doing. I dare say, I almost thought he loved the music more than he loved me.

“If you believe in magic,
don't bother to choose;
if it's jug band music
or rhythm and blues.
Just go and listen
it'll start with a smile
It won't wipe off your face
no matter how hard you try.

Your feet start tappin
and you can't seem to find
how you got there
so just blow your mind.”

And that's when he really impressed me and everyone else in the room. The guitar solo was perfect; I was completely awestruck and was put in a trance by it. I almost didn't notice that he had started singing again.

“If you believe in magic
come along with me.
We'll dance until morning
till it's just you and me.
And maybe
if the music is right
I'll meet you tomorrow
so late at night.

We'll go dancing baby
then you'll see,
how the magic's in the music
and the music's in me-e-e-e!”

The amount of people clapping was overwhelming. The smile on his face when he saw how many people loved his voice was so brilliant I could have cried. He stepped down and took me in his arms giving me the biggest kiss ever while everyone patted him on the back and cheered at him for his performance. When he was done, Cherilyn decided that it was time for cake and told Lucas to go get it. Just like Lucas's party, the cake was large enough to accommodate the mass of people and was wheeled out on a tray table from the bedroom, candles already lit while Lucas started singing the happy birthday song.

Cherilyn was quick to blow out the candles. She looked like a twelve-year-old girl with the big excited smile on her face. It was good to see her happy after everything that happened not too long ago. She had her beau, she had her friends, and she had her brother. Most importantly she had Lucas and it made me feel warm inside knowing how much of a difference he made in other people's lives and not just my own. I felt selfish keeping him to myself for so long but I knew he never did anything he didn't want to do.

Our good time didn't last very long however. While everyone was eating their weight in cake and Lucas, Carly, Mike and I were standing around the copious amounts of food spread out on the table, some guy from Cherilyn's Anatomy class decided it was time to light up a cigarette not too far away from Carly. As soon as the smoke reached her she freaked out and started trying to run away. I didn't know if it was a morning sickness thing or the fact that she was terrified of hurting the baby in any possible way, but she was starting to lose it until I got Mike and Lucas to let her go.

She ran off into the bedroom and Mike went after her. I turned to the guy who was smoking and tapped him on the shoulder.

“You can't smoke in here,” I said.
“Says who?” The guy asked as if he owned the place.
“Me,” I said, “It's my apartment.”
“Come on, bro,” he said, “Let me smoke it to the good part.”
“Well, then you can take it outside,” I said.
“Fuck that, man,” he said.
Travis walked up next to me and said, “I don't believe that was a request.”
“And who the fuck are you?” the guy asked.
“Someone you shouldn't fuck with,” Travis said crossing his arms to reveal his muscles.
“Is that a threat?” the guy asked getting more aggravated.
“It's a friendly warning,” Travis said.
“Fuck you, buddy,” the guy said as he took another puff.
“Alright, pal,” Lucas said, “I think it's time for you to leave.”
“Three to one hardly seems fair, bro,” the guy said.
“We won't ask you again,” I said, “Get out.”

It turned out that what I said was the last straw for this guy. Everything almost happened in slow motion after that. He got pissed and swung a punch at me that hit me right on the cheekbone. I stumbled back and pressed my palm against my eye, looking up just in time to see Travis knock that guy off his feet and onto the ground. He didn't move at all afterward; Travis must have knocked him out cold. Lucas turned to me to see if I was okay.

“He got a good swing in, eh?” Lucas asked.
“Yeah,” I said chuckling, “Just a little shine though.”
“You sure?” he asked.
“Yeah,” I said, “I'm gonna go check on Carly. You guys get this fucker out of here.”

I patted Lucas on the shoulder and headed down the hall. I was about to knock when I heard their voices from the other side. I knelt down and held my ear next to the door to hear the conversation better.

“Would you just tell me what's going on?” Mike said.
“It's nothing,” she said, “I'm fine.”
“Carly,” he said, “We're getting married in a couple months. I can tell when you're lying.”
She remained silent.
“Come on,” he said, “Just talk to me.”
“Okay,” she said as she took a deep breath, “I've wanted to tell you this for a while but I didn't know how to say it.”
“So, just say it,” he said.
She took another deep breath, “I'm pregnant.”

There was a brief moment of silence between them. I could only imagine what was going through Mike's mind. With those two words, I knew none of our lives would be the same in about seven or eight months. I listened intently to the other side just in case they had gotten quieter after Carly's admission but didn't hear anything for a few minutes. When he finally spoke, I was surprised to hear what he said.

“Pregnant?” he asked.
“Yes,” she said with a dull voice.
“Are you sure?” he asked.
“I took the test five times,” she said, “And my period is two weeks late.”
“So, you're pretty damn sure then,” he said.
“Are you okay?” she asked.
“Okay?” he asked, “Am I okay?”

I could hear him get to his feet and start pacing around.

“You just told me that we're having a baby,” he said, “I'm so far from okay, Carly.”
“Mike, please,” she said.
“Carly,” he said, “I'm fantastic.”
“What?” she asked.
“I just found out my dreams are about to come true,” he said, “This is incredible.”

A smile crossed my face when I heard how happy he was. His voice told so much more than his words and I could tell he was about to stand up on the roof and shout to the world. I was so focused on what was going on in the bedroom I almost didn't hear the footsteps approaching from behind.

“Aaron!” Lucas whispered loudly.
I nearly jumped out of my skin and whispered back, “What?!”
“What are you doing?” he whispered.
“What does it look like I'm doing? I'm eavesdropping.”
“Well, stop it!” he whispered.
“Spoil sport,” I said as I walked away from the door.

We walked to the end of the hallway together.

“What's going on?” he asked.
“Oh, now you want to know, eh?” I asked.
“Come on, Aaron,” he said, “What happened?”
“Well, I guess it's safe to tell you now,” I said, “Carly's pregnant.”
“WHAT?!” he yelled, “Why didn't you tell me?”
“For the same reason Cherilyn had to fake her surprise an hour ago,” I said glaring at him.
“Oh,” he said, “I guess that's a good reason. But how? When?”
“She told me last week,” I said, “Or actually, I figured it out last week.”
“Is that what's going on in there?” he asked pointing at the bedroom door.
“Yeah,” I said, “She's telling Mike.”
“How was he taking it?” Lucas asked.
“As far as I could tell, he was taking it just fine,” I said.
“So what's going to happen now?” he asked.
“Well I guess you'll find out when you get back in December won't you?” I asked.
“I guess so,” he said smiling.

The party started dying down not too long afterward. After about twenty minutes, everyone but Cherilyn, Nick, Carly and Mike were gone. Lucas and I decided to go crash while the other four started cleanup duty by clearing out the rest of the leftover food. We undressed and climbed into bed next to each other. I hugged him close to me and sighed with relief from the stress of this long day. Moments later, he released a sigh of his own and snuggled his face into his pillow.

“Don't know how many more nights we'll have like this,” I said.
“What do you mean?” he whispered.
“No stress,” I said, “No worries, no secrets. That and you're leaving in less than two months.”
“Aaron,” he said, “You know our deal.”
“I know,” I said.
“You won't even notice I'm gone,” he said.
“Yeah well,” I said, “Still have to go to sleep alone. Haven't done that for a long time.”
“I know,” he said, “Me too.”

I almost wanted to beg him to stay and give up the internship. But I didn't because I knew he would actually do it. Every instinct screamed at me to let him go and keep myself from being too selfish. But that didn't stop me from wanting to be selfish. I lay there for an hour or so after he fell asleep just watching his beautiful face as he dreamed beside me. It was going to be a long six months without him... but I would have to survive it, no matter what.

Now that's romance personified, ITC. Everything about the chapter, except the squirrelly guy with the cigarette, was awesome. But, then again, there always seems to be the jerk that spoils the atmosphere.

Thanks to Aaron, Carly is more secure in her accepting her condition and thankfully Mike found the pregnancy "fantastic." And Travis is back to his old self. Also, finding how talented Lucas is with the guitar and in singing adds much more to his charm.

I like the beginning with the flashback dream of Aaron's mom and his meeting Henry. All these things add to our understanding of Aaron. I sense the sadness he carries in knowing Lucas will be gone for such a long time. However, a greater strength of love and commitment will surely develop over that time. Love the chapter.

Beautiful chapters, ITC. Always look forward to updates from you. It's sad that the end is near for this story, but you are correct that I'm sure we will love the next 2 boys you write about as much as Lucas and Aaron and Cameron and Josh. Just make sure you keep writing for us :)
