  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Would being attracted to hyper-masculine looking men be considered a fetish or a just a preference?

I don't understand why people are so concerned about labeling what other people are attracted to.

I notice a guy when he has muscles, and there is no upper limit on a guy's muscularity for what I like, unless knowing he's fucking over his health with steroids.

But other than being a quick way to get my attention, his physicality will be much less important to keep it. If a fetish is being attracted to an object, then I think you can have a fetish for a person when you reduce them to being just an object...just a set of pecs...just a menacing brow...just massive thighs.

I'm always going to notice my guy's shoulders and I love his back. But they belong to my guy. He's not just randomly attached to the shoulders I'm dating. See the difference?

Me ..idk Im weird..I like those muscle bound men--to some degree, I dont like seeing veins, so cross the "muscular" feature.
And I like them to act like sluttish instead of domineering. They..surely buff and muscly but their body scream "I'm cunt! Fuck me"

like that
In fact, his mannerism and features are all submissive..
I like guys like that ^^

I'd say it's a fetish, because the average man doesn't look like that.

Definitely a fetish I have.

For how I see it, a fetish is more of a fixation. As in practices that are not strictly necessary for having sex. I like hairy hefty men almost exclusively but I'm not fixated, it's just a preference. While BDSM, water sports, foot worship, spanking and such, are not how people usually have sex.

I don't understand why people are so concerned about labeling what other people are attracted to.

It is only an issue if someone sees a label as pejorative. In this case...I think the OP is implying that fetishizing muscle jocks is somehow morally inferior than if lusting after them were some kind of innate natural preference.

Because the muscle guys are constructed, not begotten....some might look upon them as freaks. Where self-nurturing ego has overpowered what nature intended.

But wait. Fetishes are primarily an innate behavioural preference too. Just because we sexually objectify a certain trait or behaviour or totem.....it doesn't mean that it is any less valid or 'natural'.

....so it is all good.

Half the wwe are using human growth hormone. Most the guys posted above have been rumored to be using it including Austin.

I would call it a preference rather than fetish.

So if he likes feminine twinks, he has a fetish for feminine twinks? No...

Fetish is probably one of the most misused terms today. While the word has effectively morphed from it's original meaning(much like "literally"), it still is commonly used incorrectly, even with the modern definition.
Strictly and historically speaking, a fetish must meet two main criteria:
Be an inanimate object(some include situation as well) with no sexual connotation attached to it
Must be essential to the fetishist's arousal(i.e. you can't get off without it)
As you can see, using this definition, most people who claim to have a fetish, do in fact not have. However...
A more modern take on fetish, drops both of these definitions, making the criteria much less strict:
Any body part(body part is sub categorized as a partialism over fetishism), object or action that normal has no sexual connotation
Be a significant(majority) part of your sexual identity

Stole it from the first link I found for ease of description.

That said, I have a different definition of fetish than both the old and the new versions. Since some words mean more than one thing, when discussing sex I drop anything that uses fetish that doesn't involve sexuality. So, in this type of conversation, fetish re;sexuality is either;

-An inanimate object (also including specific situations and/or the specific physical attributes where the fetishizer can always use it to get off (barring odd circumstances - hormonal dead libido, psychological trauma, some asexuality, what-have-you). Which isn't the same as needing a fetish to go always get off. The stickler there as I understand it is that people may have more than one fetish and also be able to orgasm with generic (I know, blase word) sex.

"Be a significant(majority) part of your sexual identity" - that I consider some damned lazy writing which is why I didn't include it.

...But he tried to explain to me that it is a fetish because it kind of goes against what gay guys are "ususally" attracted to. Feminine metrosexual guys.

Your friend isn't in any way an authority on what gay men are or are not attracted to.

I would call it a "preference," since....according to Webster... a fetish is defined as "an object worshipped," and a big burly man is definitely not an "object" but a living, breathing, real person....a man, like myself, I prefer to look at.

I sure miss hyper masculinity (not to be confused with toxic masculinity) - and it is a preference.... when you walk through Wisconsin you don't look at lumberjacks and say shame shame you are being a man...

what is NOT a preference is femme - no one bounces out of the womb and says "oh Mary I am fabulous" they have made a conscious decision to behave like a little girl knowing that it is against society norms - and their admirers the same.... where outside of gay life does the world celebrate fem men? NO WHERE - it is a gay fetish or it would exist outside of the gay spectrum (this is also not meant to be derogatory) every one loves a big ole homo - but it is a choice of behavior thus a fetish

. . . .
when you walk through Wisconsin you don't look at lumberjacks and say shame shame you are being a man . . . .

I'm ashamed to admit that my father's family fortune came from the lumber/logging industry, but happy to tell you that no-one in my family has owned slaves in the past 200 years.

Taking up the occupation of lumberjack is a conscious decision - as is dressing and acting the part - even in Wisconsin.

Preference - for me fetish has to involve a certain object or situation rather than just a look/feature of a person.

Agreed. Fetishes usually involve body parts. These days, maybe it’s changed. ALTHOUGH, one could have a fetish for, say, blonds.
