Would you want to see a serious Dem challenger to Obama in '12

Poll: Dems split over handing Obama '12 nomination

I say , It depends

If unemployment #s stay the same (worsens) and the economy is not showing real signs of health by Sept 2011

Then Yes

If one can be found who is honest, not beholden to special interests, willing to call a bigot a bigot, will tell the party that the Second Amendment really is what the NRA says it is so STFU, and will challenge Congress to stop playing games and actually DO something about the debt, and then will tell the Republicans that if they'll vote for his list of gay rights items he'll back their firearms bills.... why not?

I just like how people expect Obama to fix 8 years of problems in under four years. Even the next man/women is not going to be able to fix anything it takes time.

It's a common phenomenon. I see it among libertarians who think that if they could somehow have a libertarian Congress and President and do nothing but reduce the federal government to only those functions specifically named in the Constitution, Libertopia would ensue.

It's because people want things fixed overnight. It's one reason American medical care is so expensive: we demand to get better before we have to call the doctor in the morning. We expect miracles -- then we get mad because people fail to provide them.

Maybe a viable third party would be the "Practical Patience Party", where people honestly admit that change takes time -- and if it takes time at home, it will probably take three times as long in D.C.

Nah, people would rather believe in miracles. I'll expect them when I see a politician walk on water upstream over Niagara Falls.

underestimate the man all you want.

if anyone is willing to bet $100 that he wont be re-elected show me the money.

I don't care. I've sworn off the Democrats. Never voting for another one. Wouldn't trust one to lick my nuts.

I think minimally it would be a tactical mistake for a fellow Democrat to challenge Obama. Kennedy did this to Carter and the Dems suffered for it. Also, I would like to see Democrat explain such a move to the African-American community. No, it's just nuts. Let Obama stand on his own and win or lose on his own. My thought is that either Obama wins reelection or no Democrat wins in '12. Clinton managed a rebound after midterm defeats and even his growing scandals. However, Clinton had a much better economy. Good luck to the President. I will vote for him again. But he needs some better times. That really has to come from him.

By the time 2012 comes along, Obama's approval rating with be in the low 30's. Any Democrat will have a better shot than he will.

If I recall your predictions for the Senate races correctly, and compare them to the actual results, we'll have to change that "low 30s" to "mid 40s".

Not that I really care -- the Republicans don't have anyone of presidential material on the field, and the Democrats don't have anyone both significantly different from Obama and with the guts to actually get things done.

Maybe Morgan Freeman -- he at least sounds presidential. :D

I got only TWO Senate races wrong; Colorado and West Virginia. So actually, my Senate predictions were quite accurate.

Maybe , maybe not

hopefully before then the economy is heating up and more jobs open up. also Obama will have a foil with Repubs controlling the House

the next few months will be crucial for him. does he give-in and move to the middle (like Clinton) or dig in???? Today he sounded like he may give-in some.

Stick to his agenda by tying the things he wants done, like ENDA, to jobs bills.

You said they'd pick up nine; they picked up six. That's an error of 1/3.

I definitely never said nine, that would have been really overestimating.

All of the polling says Republicans will take 7-8 Senate seats from current Democrats[...]

Hmm.

Republicans will pick-up the following Senate seats currently held by Democrats. If you believe they'll only win 3 or 4, then you're seriously suffering from delusions.

Arkansas
Colorado
Illinois
Indiana
Nevada
North Dakota
Pennsylvania
West Virginia
Wisconsin

Nine of 'em there.

I think he'll be moving to the center.

Meh, I would like a real progressive with teeth, but all this would do is let the Rethugs win the White House. No thanks.

I would too, but the results would not be good because we aren't a progressive country.

You actually guessed NEVADA correctly???? [EDIT: Kulindahr quoted a post of yours showing Nevada angling toward the Republican. So there. :p]

NOBODY saw that coming (I thought).

THREAD TOPIC: Yes I'd definitely like to see a good, viable Democratic candidate beat Obama in the 2012 Primaries!!!

This will be the Outcome if the President & The Dems have no victories over the next 2yrs........:

1. President Obama will not win re-election....The Republicans will take-over the Senate & The White House.

2. The Democratic Party will lose the Majority of Black Voters nation-wide...

3. President Mitt Romney & Vice President Pawlenty will Govern the Country and the Republican Senate & House will be in Power for another 8yrs....

4. The "Tea Party" will have their Country back and they'll put away their signs and T-shirts and go back home..

5. Sara Palin will be named the New Chairwoman of the RNC..
