  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Yes! Boring Soccer Gone For Four Years!

Actually the quarter-finals are just starting. Ghana, bless them, eliminated the US. I listen to BBC World Service, and I just heard it there.

What does the title of this thread mean? The aptly-named WC isn't remotely over.

well from a US centric perspective it is over because they got kicked out. how dare you try to see things from a different perspective, after all the earth is flat with the US in it's centre.

oops was that a british spellling?

I have no idea what your all arguing about. So I'll just go back to my iced tea.

Move over on the couch Jayden and pour me a glass too, one lemon no sugar

please. Now, lets channel up Wide World of Sports.

To hell with all these wimps and sissies with their various versions of footybal,

lets tune into a real mans game....the International Mens Golf Invitational, after

that, we can go to Antonios New York Pizzaria for a couple of brews and a pie

while catching the last half of the World Bowling League Championships.

Uh, I think what I'm trying to say is YOU TWITS...|

Even for us narrow-minded US-centric Americans (itself a US-centric term, but we're so US-centric that we don't have another), you have to live in a pretty non-ethnic community to be completely unaffected once the US is eliminated. I'm glad Italy was eliminated; a win for Italy is the second-worst event for me, here in Hoboken (the worst is a loss for Italy in the finals, which might occasion actual violence).

That is where I live!!!!!!! :D:D:D:D

I don't beat up people in wheelchairs though. Promise.

You will note it was a Leodensian who pointed me to that information. I'm hardly inclined to tar all Loiners with that same brush!

cute guys in shorts is never completely unwelcome

Now THAT's an attitude I can wholeheartedly share! What self-respecting gay man can object to this:

Not quite. The round of 16 is just starting, there's a lot of WC football left. I hope to see Argentina and Brazil in the final.

By the way, the 2014 WC will be in Brazil! I will be there.

So typical that once the US is out, Football/soccer ceases to exist.

I have been in Europe for the World Cup several times over the years and still find soccer infinitely more interesting than American 'football', which has little to none of the unencumbered grace and athleticism of soccer.

I think you have it wrong. When the US isn't competing in an international event, the rest of the world ceases to exist. Well, except where we're fighting wars. Who was it who said that war is God's way of teaching Americans geography?

Just want to point out that as an American I think this is a tragedy. Not that I'm going to watch the WC, but then I wasn't watching even when the US was in.

I have to admit it never bores me to see run those bunches of sperm sacks over squarred fields for an hour.

I will concede that American football lacks much of the grace required in soccer (though this is still not entirely correct, depending on the position in question), but to claim that it lacks athleticism is kind of a ridiculous claim to make, especially if you've never actually participated in the sport. One could argue that soccer lacks the physical strength or impeccable memory (albeit not for all positions) required in American football. One COULD argue that, but I realize that there are several qualities that validate a sport, having played and been rather successful at nearly all of them.

Really though, who cares which football someone prefers. There is a reason different people like different things and NO ONE is going to convince anyone else (at least anyone here) to change his opinion. For the record I enjoy and recognize the merits of both sports.

Agreed. Everyone has their nose so up everyone else's ass about the most inconsequential personal preferences.

Why not like what you like and ignore what you don't?
