Body Benefit Food Tip

Cooked tomato products protect the prostate. Men who eat cooked tomato products ten or more times a week have a 35 to 45 percent reduction in severe forms of prostate cancer compared with men who eat tomato products fewer than twice a week. While the key ingredient may be the folate, some believe the cancer fighter comes in the form of lycopene, a substance also found in tomato products.

Extremely! Now how do I lose 20 pounds by June 30th =|
Start eating healthy(ier) and start incorporating cardio into your daily routine. Cardio is the best way to lose fat fast. I've lost nearly 20 pounds in a month and I did it simply by eating sensibly (i.e. cutting out fatty foods) and going on brisk daily walks. I walk for 40 - 60 minutes first thing every morning and have never felt better!

I thought you should know, ozguy, that I ate a banana today because of this fantastic thread. It's merely the first step, of course.

Bravo!! Bananas are rich in potassium and very good for you (see post #6)... I eat at least two every day.

FRUIT IS GOOD FOOD

Fruits have the distinction of being called "nature's own desserts". Fruits contribute fibre and nutrients to the diet, as well as sweetness - and all that without adding lots of calories.

Peaches, apricots, rockmelons (cantaloupes), bananas, nectarines, mangoes and watermelon are sources of carotene, a precursor of vitamin A, an essential vitamin.

Grapefruit, oranges and other citrus fruits and juices, melons, berries, papayas, and kiwi fruit are sources of vitamin C. Among other things, vitamin C helps bind body cells together and increase iron consumption from foods.

Dried fruits - raisins, dates, prunes, and dried apricots - are good sources of iron and potassium; bananas, oranges, and other fruits also provide potassium. Iron combines with protein to make hemoglobin, which carries the oxygen in red blood cells from the lungs to cells throughout the body.

Many fruits also provide folic acid and magnesium. Folic acid is essential for several chemical processes in the body, including synthesis of the nucleic acids DNA and RNA, and formation of certain amino acids and hemoglobin. Magnesium is involved in cellular metabolism, protein digestion, and nervous system functions.

Eating fruit is a good way to add dietary fibre, too. Adding fibre to your diet promotes normal bowel function and is useful in the prevention and treatment of constipation. There is also strong evidence that a diet rich in high fibre foods (like fruit) aids in the prevention of bowel cancer.

Fruits are definitely an important part of a well-balanced diet. Best of all, most people like fruit, countering the myth that anything good is either illegal, immoral or fattening.

Im glad you are continuing woth this informative thread :D

A good dose of ozguy's thread a day keeps the doctors away!!

The lungs have millions of tiny hairs, called cilia, which act like brooms that sweep away the dirt and germs caught in the mucous in your bronchial tubes. They are fast-action sweepers, constantly moving back and forth to clear your lungs of nasty stuff that enters with every breath. Cigarette smoke kills cilia, destroying the very mechanism that's meant to protect your lungs from toxins.

Try this self-test: Stand on one leg and close your eyes. The longer you can stand without falling, the younger your brain (fifteen seconds is very good if you are 45 or older). That balancing act is just one sign of your brain strength. To develop better balance, you should use free weights - dumbbells and barbells - because exercising with them works your proprioception (your ability to balance).

That was fun!! Thanks. Ultimately my leg just got tired haha. I'm sure if I hadn't just drank a beer I would have lasted longer haha. j/k. Any age range criteria other than over 45? Just curious.

Your retina is a very membranous structure, and your whole eye is covered in a soft, double layer of membranes (think two layers of cellophane with jelly in between). Fat-soluble vitamins feed and maintain those membranes.

You can do preliminary tests on your hearing by asking yourself a few questions:

* Do others complain you watch TV with the volume too high?
* Do you frequently ask others to repeat themselves?
* Do you have difficulty understanding young children?
* Are you unable to understand when someone talks to you from another room?

If you answer yes to these questions, you should have your hearing checked.

Most people should start having a Hemoccult test after age 40 to screen for hidden blood in the stool (the tests are available in pharmacies). After 50, you should have a colonoscopy every three to five years to rule out colon cancer and detect polyps that could potentially turn into colon cancer.

Body Benefit Food Tip

Olive oil, whole-grain pasta and asparagus decrease the inflammatory gremlins that age your arteries.

Your eyelashes primarily protect your eyes against pollen and other items in the environment, but they can also sense when something is coming toward the eye, which gives you a microsecond to react. You grow new eyelashes every five weeks - and some medications actually make them grow.

The tear ducts in your eyes are responsible for keeping your eyes lubricated. Dry eyes - a very common problem - result from an inadequate amount of fluid coming out of those ducts. The best treatment isn't to keep your eyes wet with another viewing of Life as a House, but by drinking enough water throughout the day.

Two good stress reducers are laughing and meditation. Laughing reduces anxiety, tension and stress. With meditation, there's a multiple payoff. It helps maintain your brain cells and preserve memory-related functions, and the stress-reduction component of meditation helps prevent such conditions as depression and anxiety disorder.

Look at your ear lobes. If you have a diagonal crease in your lobe, it's a sign that you might be experiencing arterial aging. In fact, it's one of the first signs of arterial aging. And since you are examining your face, yellowish plaques of cholesterol deposits around the eyelids are another warning sign.

Actually, what the common person thinks of as a "tear duct" is really the drainage port rather than the source of tears. The actual lacrimal gland (if I recall correctly) is superio-lateral to the eye. Just a tiny detail haha. I didn't know that about the earlobe.
