If your boss ask you to make coffee, would you? BTW, you are not the office coffee boy, you are a professional/trainee in the workplace.
The reason i ask is that i have done some work before in firms during my university holiday, and some of the guys just wanted me to pour them coffee or photocopy stuff. I think im more then that, i went to university to learn skills to use in the firm, but i always find myself pouring coffee for my superiors.
On one hand, i dont mind, given that they are still going to pay me. On the other, its kindof degrading that you are fulfilling the role of office coffee boy.
You thoughts.

Of course I would. I'm a trained professional. I just happen to be a professional barista. ;)

I probably would, but only under the condition that it be a shared experience--rotating amongst everyone, including the boss.

I don't drink the stuff and have the reputation for making the world's worst coffee on the occasions I've attempted it. So, I doubt I'd be asked--at least more than once.

In my office, the head boss makes it for everyone. He's too embarrassed to ask others to do it. Either that, or he's picky on how it's made.

I would too. I love coffee. Maybe you could mention that you are interested in doing more than photocopying and pouring coffee. It will make you appear to be eager to learn.

If it buged me in the way you say. I would do this. I would make the coffee to look like tea.

I love coffee, but it doesn't like me, bad tummy. But I make coffee by using one tablespoon of coffee to a pot of water. It looks like tea when its done.

I am sure your boss wont ask you to make it again. hehe:lol: :rotflmao:

I am not a typical 9-to-5'er, but I would NEVER ALLOW anyone above me at work to ask me to make coffee. The moment you do something like that, you are forever caught in the role, which by the way means you are inferior to the person ordering the task.

If its a small office, its a reasonable request. Everyone pitches in to make the office feel comfortable and run smoothly.

Make him coffee that matches his personality.

If he's nice, make it nice. If he's unpleasant...

I originally in this message wrote 'Swap the sugar for salt'. but that's my immediate non-serious reaction.

Oh im eagered to learn. Its kindof my vacation job so i go there especially to work, but the problem is sometimes they dont want to give you work thats too challenging. Its almost like you have violated their space for a week and they dont want you to mess up their organisation.
Anyway, lol, i will remember to make different strength coffee everyday just to piss them off, see how that makes my boss feel!

You were working during your university holiday... You weren't there to be some corner office executive... especially if it's a temp job. Everyone puts up with crap on their university holidays... I'm a year away from having the third-most recognized ring in the world and I work in a Grocery store on my holidays.

Of course I'd make coffee. I'd make the best damn coffee my boss ever had out of that coffee machine.

Then when he wants another job done he'll call me because he'll know I'll do it right.

There's nothing degrading about making coffee.

Well i did work all those years in order to get to where im at. I have studied and got to a point where im confident in my skills. At least they should use my skills to their full ability. They are just losing a skilled worker by making me their coffee boy.
Anyone can make coffee, but can everyone do what i have studied for years to do?

Oh this gets me really pissy. People who go to University and think they can just walk into an established business and go straight for all the "good" stuff. Of course they would want to use your skills but qualified or not you are starting at the bottom of an established team and it would take a while to find your place.

I am a qualified professional and although its true I don't make the coffee as often as the trainees since I became manager, I do when I'm free - but that is less often than the newer members.

Show you are willing to be part of the team and make the damn coffee - not all professional life is fast track success - you've got to be prepared to get your hands dirty and if that means doing the shit jobs at first then so be it.

I'm fortunate enough to have a really decent boss, and we work in a funny environment where we joke about and take the piss out of each other. So

a) He just wouldn't ask in the first place

and

b) He wouldn't at all be surprised when I turn round and tell him to fuck off

I make coffee for our staff and put the kettle on for tea. I expect them to do this as well. I don't see anything degrading about asking someone who may have more time than I do to take care of the coffee; in fact I expect that junior people on my payroll would have the smarts and the courtesy to do it without being asked. The fact that he did have to ask may tell you something about where your career is headed.

Dude,

If the pay is good, and they are paying, swallow your pride and make them their damned coffee. Being in a junior position, that's one of those little things, you are expected to do...

Try to move on as soon as possible...

Only if he was cute...
and promised to swat me on the butt....when I served it
