Your opinion on food stamps and those who use/abuse them?

You should change your screen name to "Pathetic Pete". Your attitude sucks.

"Personal observation" means just that. It's what in court they call a "witness".

And you have no idea what people are doing to help othpersoers. I do probably twenty hours a week of volunteer work -- how about you? See, unless you're out there, too, telling others to get out there is what's called being a hypocrite.

Once again, your attitude sucks.

"personal observation" here seems to mean you're standing in a grocery line up and you think know what the person in front of you is up to. In court it won't probably stand up.

and having a pissing contest about what we do has volunteers has nothing to do with this issue.

and thanks for the insult and telling me my attitude sucks. I must be doing something right.

Personal opinion - I have them now because I need them(not that I actually have the card - that's another story entirely), since I've moved out on my own and need the money to support myself since this job at the devils' workplant is only going to pay rent, if that. I too, see people in their Ed Hardy merchandise (or whatever is hot right now) and their fancy new touchscreen phones with 4G and siri and the latest camera and all sorts of other shit using their SNAP cards, but to me it's possible that some of these things are a memento of a past life no longer lived just as easily as it can be a tale of abuse. It'd jade me to think otherwise, and i'm jaded enough on other things in life.

And yeah, i've worked at a grocery store for years and seen people buying cakes and candies and chips with their cards, but I'm sure there isn't some obscene law stating you need to eat healthy because you don't have much money and the state is giving you assistance - if you wanna participate in the plan father Darwin laid out for you, be my guest. One less for one more.

Huntneo, your thread asks for opinions on people who use/abuse food stamps. Is it true that by law my opinion has to be the exact same for people who use them vs. people who abuse them?

Discuss.

^ If we are talking about the sacred laws of ignorance and bliss than yes.

I just don't get the whole "stop attacking the poor" sulk. People should use public programs honestly and when they need them. Calling them on their bullshit when they scam the system is totally fair. I also don't care if some people think we have bigger fish to fry with corporate greed or whatever. This thread isn't about corporate greed. We're allowed to agree that they are both problems. This thread is only about one of them.

^ YES! YES! Someone can read! I'm so happy. I'm sure Huntneo is going to be happy as well. (*8*) ..|

Just BTW, I know a gal who suddenly needed food stamps, but had far over $2k in the bank. So she made a list of things she'd been wanting -- smart phone, laptop, new TV, some new clothes, and a small freezer to hold some meat and things she liked but knew she wouldn't be able to buy with the card.

So she would have looked very well-to-do in the grocery line, while (technically) qualifying.

Now, is that fraud?

No it's stupidity. Take that money out the bank and put it somewhere else.

Just what do you think you're doing, coming in here and talking sense?

Huntneo, you seem to be focusing on something that is intrinsically innate to many people in this nation that seems to not get it...it is called "divide and conquer". Since you are a native Alabamian, I would advise to read the book by retired Auburn University political science/economic professor, Dr. Wayne Flynt, titled "Alabama in the Twentieth Century" particularly the chapters discussing the circumstances that has led to how Alabama is the way it is now (which is a microcosm of the fucked-up nature of the US as a whole). You might learn something valuable about how silly what you are ranting about "welfare cheats/fraud/scammers" sounds.

Oh yeah, everyone pays taxes. There are two things you can't avoid in life, taxes and death...

Some of you are CLEARLY stereotyping people that use Food stamps. And if you follow them to their car that is STALKING...

Gay men don't want to be discriminated against and stereotyped but some of you are the FIRST ones to stereotype people on Race, physical appearance and their Living conditions...STOP watching peoples wallets and purses while you're standing in line and worry about your own Shit...

Thank you! I makes ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE AT ALL! This is the type of bullshit that I would expect from a bunch of tinfoil hat wear ninnies in that follows the T.E.A. twats mantra/Stormfront.org, but this is a group of gay/bisexual men that will scream like a banshee in heat on a drop of a dime if discrimination was directed towards them. I swear this is type of shit that will get your ass shot...

Advise all you like. I appreciate the suggestion. Although I'm sure it won't change much about my opinion. Just because I am ranting about things you find silly, doesn't mean there isn't validity to them. Trivializing this won't make it go away.

And while you're at it, please take your condescending attitude somewhere else. You must have forgotten who you're talking to.

Nice try, though. Stay upset.

lol please.

Yes. Get very upset because other people have opinions you don't like.

I'm shaking.

And you who are you exactly?... Oh yeah, a nobody that has lived all over ALABAMA, LMBAO

You are the one whom is pressed like a well ironed shirt b/c I don't allow people behind the computer screen stress me when you can't do shit for or to me. Oh yeah, you are just plain simple, and you are just whining about a Craigslist ad and looking for those to validate it on the internet...

Oh yeah, that prior comment about people getting shot, your black ass ass knows how 'folk' talk, I was talking about those who talk like you...

So negro, you can miss me with your bullshit... ;)

LMAO, people are worried about the abuse of the US's "generous" welfare system......

Huntneo, no one is trivialising your view, but poor people cheating the benefit system cost virtually nothing compared to wealthy people avoiding tax by putting all their assets in the cayman islands etc

Sweetness, I've welcomed ALL comments here. But I'm not about to be entertained by those like yourself who are just pissed because I've hit you in a sore spot. lol stay upset.

And I love how you claim to know so much about my life. At least you got some of it right. It's always nice to have stalkers/admirers on JustUsBoys.

Are you on food stamps, baby?

Look how clever you are. I am very much whining, complaining, and yes...in a way looking for others to validate it. You get a star for today. Captain Obvious.

Pressed? No...

More like laughing at how upset you are by my thread.

LMBAO, boy are you patronizing and that tells me you are pressed. I don't have to know anything and everything about your life since you post on here. (have a look at your own post history and say I am lying). It's obvious you aren't too bright, so I won't argue with a fool.

People like you tickle me because you wrote a whole lot of nothing and still haven't said anything, LOL. Do yourself a favor and log off and breathe because you aren't winning any battles rather continuing to lose the war.

Start a thread about it.

I may do at some point, but I thought I would bring this issue to life so that you could see this in a wider context, instead of bashing comparatively trivial instances of poor benefit cheats.

I think you're underestimating the damage that cheaters create for those who legitimately need help.

There are plenty of middle-class taxpaying people who are aware that offshore tax havens are wrong, etc., and they're paying their own bills but just barely sometimes and just when they think they're getting ahead they need a new muffler.

When they hear one news story about welfare fraud, they don't think "Hey that asshole is taking money out of donald trump's pocket. Good for him." They think "Hey that fucker is taking money out of my pocket. I could have paid cash for that muffler and still gone out for dinner. Instead I ran up my line of credit and stayed in."

Nothing destroys support faster for the kinds of social programs we need to live in a civilised world than abuse. It doesn't matter about the top tax rate, or off-shoring revenues or anything like that. That frankly goes over a lot of people's heads. It doesn't matter if a welfare cheat only takes advantage to the tune of $50, because it feels like it's coming out of my own pocket.

Since there is no reason to cheat the welfare system, you have to come down on it like a tonne of bricks or the whole thing goes for shit.

I have an issue with people who take advantage and abuse the system. One of my neighbors use to claim she was a single mother with 4 kids, she was supposedly disabled from a back injury she had when she fell in a store, she had her settlement payments and the government also sent her a check to support her kids. The kids fathers, (one per kid) are mostly married, good guys with families of their own, who made a poor decision one night making this lady their "Hall pass". Anyway, this lady has the kids taken care of by both the men she scammed, the government, and the lawsuit, she has never had to work a day in her life and she parades around in a brand new Escalade, and i think its frustrating that people who need the feds help don't qualify to receive it because of the lack of criteria by those that handle the program. These programs are well intentioned, but they really need to follow up on each case, visit their home, look at their need and truly channel the aid where it can really make a positive impact. As for this lady, she moved away like 6 months ago, last i heard she was living in Tennessee and pregnant, again.

Since there is no reason to cheat the welfare system, you have to come down on it like a tonne of bricks or the whole thing goes for shit.

The only reason why this would be the case is because right wingers constantly harp on about it, not because it actually does that much damage but because it supports their ideological stance that the system of social welfare should be ended entirely. It's an effective way to get people squabbling with themselves. Fact is that whether it's a benefit cheat stealing a few hundred or at most a couple thousand dollars/pounds/whatever it is coming out of your pocket, but a wealthy person not paying millions of dollars worth of taxes is also cheating you by not paying their taxes in the first place. This means that benefit cheats will be technically taking money out of your pocket, not out of the pockets of the wealthy, because they never bothered to pay in the first place. Therefore who is cheating the system more?

Of course the top tax rate and off shoring revenues matter because they are cheating the government (and therefore the citizens) of FAR more money.

This could have been a legitimate debate but all the OP seems to want is a bitchfest about people who may or may not be abusing the system.

Sometimes rules need to be broken to help families feed themselves.

If that's turning a blind eye to the so called abuse then I will do that.
