Your Personal First-World Problems

Is that ZAR or do you mean actual dollars? (and if so we can assume US dollars from our craven tendency in the rest of the world to rewrite our own realities for the convenience of Americans?)

Either way, your parking is fairly cheap.

ZAR. But no, parking at that place is crazy expensive - 10 bucks/hour, with no free parking anywhere nearby and no public transport to get you there.

My Bloggie camera broke. :( It was a gift from a friend two Christmases ago. I cannot afford a new one right now, but will have to start saving up for one. I've seen used ones on Amazon, so maybe I will have to settle for that.

The absolute worst: I look inside my closet, search through the mountain of clothes I own, and can't find a single decent outfit to wear.

Sometimes, I just don't think life is worth living when things like that happen.

Okay I have a new First Word Problem.

For me to park at an inconspicuous city parking meter down an innocuous side street not particularly close to anything except the obscure place I'm going costs R23 per hour.

To park in a heated underground parkade in the core of the city, which is about 10 streets away from the place I mentioned, costs close to R200 per day, capped, most of which accrues in the first hour or two.

This is in a relatively backwoods second-tier Canadian city without the pressures of Toronto or Vancouver.

To be fair I could take transit if I didn't mind tripling my 20 minute voyage from home to shop. The cost of a day pass on transit converts to R66.

This is based on exchange rate CAD:ZAR of 1:7.77

^That's neither here nor there. You have to look at relative costs before you can make such a comparison.

We should compare the cost of a can of coke, a movie ticket, a CD or DVD and a flight between two major popular cities in your country. Also the cost of phone calls, electricity, bank charges and the cost of new cars. That would give you a far better idea of what is going on.

I say all that secure in the knowledge that .za is in the most over-priced for telecoms, new cars, electricity and bank charges.

F'r instance, a cellphone-based call costs R2.75/minute; a landline call from .za to the US costs nearly R12/minute or R14 from a cellphone. When I was in the US, I could call .za from a cellphone for US$0.10/minute, or R0.62 at the time, literally 1/20 of the cost.

At this time I will also point out that is usually cheaper to buy a DVD from Amazon, pay the shipping charges and pay the import duties than to buy the equivalent local item produced under licence here. And the bonus is I usually get more special features and a better-quality case and booklet and everything than the locally-produced one will have.

In short, I win. And thus lose.

Air Canada, Feb 6-10 (cheapest refundable economy (latitude) fare round trip taxes and fees included)
Edmonton-Vancouver (regional flight - 820 km) CAD 1175 = ZAR 9130
Edmonton-Ottawa (capital to capital - 2860 km) CAD 2016 = ZAR 15 664

SAA, Feb 6-10 (cheapest refundable economy fare (select upgraded to "Y" class) round trip taxes and fees included)
Capetown-OR Tambo (1275 km) ZAR 5871 = CAD 756

Our Star Alliance flag carrier screws us more than your Star Alliance flag carrier screws you.

Without lube!

And don't get me started on Canada's famous 3 year cellphone contracts with additional minutes only 0.45 per minute or ZAR 3.50 per minute for domestic calls.

Did I mention three years of being fucked by the wrong end of a cactus with no lube….under contract…for three frickin years. Actually for an additional $50 per month, they'll sell you 5mL of lube, whether you use it or not, and if you squeeze it out of the tube too fast you'll be cut off for violating the Acceptable Use policy.

Manual Transmission 1.8L Civic Sedan lowest common denominator:
In .za, ZAR 229 900 = CAD 29 588
In .ca, CAD 14 990 = ZAR 116 472

Ouch. It's criminal to pay that for a Honda Civic. Clearly you're supposed to fly around your country and I'm (shudder) supposed to drive a Honda Civic around mine.

My BF in an attempt to surprise me, bought me wine. I was severely disappointed in his selection for me (I don't do blush). Since you can't return alcohol, I was forced to imbibe said wine and now I have heartburn because of it.

All the free software I use (open office, paint.net, audacity) etc are slightly inferior to the expensive software I'm too cheap to buy.

I occasionally get slight internet lag when playing mindless games with people on different continents.

The selection of extremely cheap shots on offer at the bar I went to on Friday night with some friends really did not taste at all like they should have.

I get horrible signal on my iPhone 4s inside my room. :(

No, this thread is about problems, and your situation does not qualify as a problem; it's a solution. I'm happy you lost it all. Your attempt to start this thread is not sincere, since you did not present a problem. I am on-topic, and your original post on this thread is off-topic. You did not present an actual problem to start your own thread about problems. Your do have a first-world problem, in that you believe piracy is acceptable. That is a much more important first-world problem than the silly loss of your illegally-acquired data.
Seeing how it is his thread, and piracy will always exist, I doubt he is the one off topic.

Maybe you should just go somewhere and sulk quietly.

yesterday my wireless router wasnt working properly, thus crippling my PC, macbook air and blackberry playbook. First world anger problem!

As I posted in another thread: Skyward Sword arrived before the MotionPlus attachment.

Still waiting.

Arkham Asylum finally started working on my computer. Yay.

Now Arkham City won't run on my computer. Boo.

Best friend is coming to visit tonight and I work tomorrow morning. Just got a promotion, so I can't take off.

Le crey. :(

Massive blow-out sale at a local high-end department store this weekend, and I couldn't find the one pair of cK undies (silver. No, seriously) I really wanted in my size, and so had to settle for two other colours instead.

Hopefully this pattern will not occur again when I visit the Lindt chocolate store tomorrow - not sure I could handle more disappointments!
