The Edwardian era or Edwardian period in the United Kingdom is the period covering the reign of King Edward VII, 1901 to 1910, and is sometimes extended beyond Edward's death to include years leading up to World War I. The key being sometimes.

Well..Im one of those dudes believe that Edwardian era still continued until the uproar of 1920s
I FIRMLY believe because WW1 somewhat halted that cultural period to really flourish to its potential- shame on war!

I believe that Art Nouveau could flourish even more..if there wasn't too much distraction/destruction

Oh yes, Art Nouveau. An era for Oscar Wilde and ocean liners... very beautiful indeed.
That building is from Latvia.

Beautiful!...I havent seen too many male models on art nouveau, thx ^^

You're not British or French - yet you claim it to be your favourite era.

I do believe you've made a satire thread, JP.

As it happens I am 100% British/French. Well, a Jewish woman snuck in there, either a generation or two after migrating from eastern europe or spain, or more intriguingly and improbably, from a Jewish family that had been established in the UK for generations. And you have to count the Irish as being British too to get all the way up to 100. Which was certainly proper in the Edwardian era, and, frankly, today as well.

And as my grandfather and grandmother, and my grand uncles (one centenarian who lives still) were all products of that era, I am delighted by your mentioning this great time in European history, and indeed world history, given Europe's demographic standing, and political preeminence, in that time. I have some of their memories, and knowledge that's availableo all of us who've read history. No times new roman though.

Golden to some guys, dusty to others- that happening all the time..

I have a little trouble distinguishing the Victorian era from the Edwardian era, but I probably somewhat agree with you. Although I think that you admire the manners and styles of the time, it is hard to realize that they had automobiles for the rich to play with and airplanes were flying although not practical yet. My grandmother came from Hungary as a girl in 1907 and remembered there was a family in their Hungarian town who had a Victrola phonograph and in the summer the children in town would gather outside their open window to hear it play. In the 1920's they had their own Victrola and they would crank it up and it would play and then start to slow down and the voices would get deeper and they would run to crank it up again. That same grandmother came from Hungary to Vienna, to Hamburg, to New York, to Cleveland, Ohio in 1907. I am assuming that they travelled by railroad, rather than by horse carriage, and by steamship.

I am more familiar with the 1950's when there were still manners and taste. Businesses would give you polite service and downtown buildings would have an operator in the elevator to run it and people would say "sir" and "madam". People dressed for Sundays and special occasions and ladies wore hats and gloves. My mother had a straw hat and white shoes and purse for summer, Memorial Day to Labor Day, and a dark felt hat and dark leather shoes and purse for Labor Day to Memorial Day.

Even Edwardian has older and newer version in its decade years. Just think Victorian as steam punk, industrial, Scrooge (Christmas Carol) complicated row houses, huge billowing skirt and whale corset for women.. the men almost dress similar but the 1900s suit's cut lines are simpler. ^^
I like the era..not because of the manner but idk, the sum essence from it. I never be a fan of Victorian era or beyond, but Edwardian nostalgia is just pretty.

Yes, cool phonograph I think I saw somewhere in my game..^^

50s are golden year for homogeneous conservatives..although their ideal is disgusting to be applied in modern time, however..the 50s has orderliness/ organized neat beauty in every single of their products. ;)

My favorite European era :) You should be 100% British/French or pure bloodied European to enjoy the juice of Edwardian era, FYI ^^ times new roman ~?

That recent huh. I get my Victorian and Edwardian definitions confused sometimes. I may be excused since I'm 0% Euro ;)

As for what other knowledge.... though this may be less celebratory than the thread intends:

For other parts of the world, it was still a time of colonial exploitation, which the splendid times of the Edwardian age was built upon. But it was also a time when everyone on all sides knew it was just a matter of time before this state of affairs came to an end. The writing was on the wall.

And the rest of the world were seeing the great European colonial powers begin to turn on one another, resulting in the two world wars.

No one foresaw it would result in their lives being changed in more ways than finally shrugging off colonial rule.
