That's because it was right before the 60's. I can't imagine things were much better before the 50's and where I'm from, it's remembered as a prosperous time and not just for the rich (hence the 80's isn't so fondly remembered here). If that's true in America as well, it would be the conservative's best balance between standard of living (for enough of the population to count in a democracy) and propriety in history.

The 50s was the pinnacle of prosperity ^^ said some..I guess that era was appropriate as the "golden days" since everybody just ended WW2, returning home while spent 10 years of peaceful living (not quite since James Bond working hard to detect Russian spies) but 50s were rather fruitful than the 80s maybe because the 80s had economic crisis? I think..at some point ^^
