100 years ago (1915)...we lived in Edwardian era

it's the rampant ageism.....
No. #-o Im far from being age-ism tastefully speaking
I just acknowledged members who are seniors like "hi you're my senior" :) It's futile to diss elderly since we're all becoming the same.

from acknowledging that my first car was a Cugnot.

You must be kidding right?

That recent huh. I get my Victorian and Edwardian definitions confused sometimes. I may be excused since I'm 0% Euro ;)

As for what other knowledge.... though this may be less celebratory than the thread intends:

For other parts of the world...

I love Japanese Edwardian- if that term exist ^^ Japanese shogun in early 1900s also stand out and pretty in their own spin

idk- we started losing culture since late 90s -_-

Lets not forget what a wonderful life gay people had when they were found out and jailed. Granted it was not nazi germany when over 250,000 gays were put in concentration camps!

You must be kidding right?

It was a bitch to parallel park. But the cannon slung underneath took care of horses and riders following too closely.

It was very difficult, though, to feed the furnace and steer around corners while loading and firing the cannon.

These paintings date as late as that? I'd have guessed late Victorian. Japonisme this way was a few decades earlier too.

Japan had no Shogun during the Edwardian or late Victorian periods.

50s are golden year for homogeneous conservatives..although their ideal is disgusting to be applied in modern time, however..the 50s has orderliness/ organized neat beauty in every single of their products. ;)

Postwar boom America was riding on the wave of a victorious just war. The meanness in the conservatism we see today hadn't set in. That starts with Reagan exploiting post Vietnam disillusionment from defeat in a morally bankrupt war and other "Third World" challenges like the Iran Hostage Crisis. Culminates in Newts with Boners.

I'd say 50s conservatives were more like liberals today. Yes the country has moved that far right. Reagan won. But the 50s is when a new American look came into its own breaking away from emulating Western Europe and went global.

Ha! ;) Trained eyes- I was doing midnight slacking post last night, I thought you didn't notice ^^ One of them painting was came from 1861?? I think- clearly still in Victorian.

Rite- Shogun is samurai era  Japanese actually has totally different chronology of historical time period. I think Japanese Edwardian pretty much overlap with Victorian- Late 18??-1912, that's the Meiji era
after Meiji was Tansho era which ended up in 1926? (1912-1926) which I think it's totally overlapped with western clock :##:

The meaness and Reagan, glad to know. Thk you

Do you mean by being a super-capitalist bitch? ^^ I guess so. But a reason I identified conservatives with the 50s is because sooo many right wing youtube/online commenters like whenever there's an issue with liberal progression..whether this celeb dress showing too much skin? Indecency issue, blacks gone wild, feminism, transgender bathroom, etc..they ALWAYS blame this era while nostalging to the American golden days-which they refer as the 50s

I live in the United States. The Meiji period was a Victorian/Edwardian sub-period. :P

Not really :) Don't know much about art. Except that it's a double 2-way mirror for artists when civilizations clash. Especially when very long art traditions are involved and Asia's goes back a very long way. Artists are early responders ;)

American capitalism has degenerated from industry and manufacturing to marketing and consumerism. Labor is the biggest loser. That's why we see so much unhappiness today.

It's market propaganda using rear projection. I don't think black Americans would regard the 50s as especially golden.

It looks like Parkview Square. I considered posting it one of the other threads here the other day.

That's because it was right before the 60's. I can't imagine things were much better before the 50's and where I'm from, it's remembered as a prosperous time and not just for the rich (hence the 80's isn't so fondly remembered here). If that's true in America as well, it would be the conservative's best balance between standard of living (for enough of the population to count in a democracy) and propriety in history.

JP what ethnicity are you? Sorry, but I never remember asking. Is that racist? Idk. But I want to know. My guess is that you are Korean--based solely on your mother being a Protestant Christian.
