15 States to Watch in the US Presidential Election

Re: 15 States to Watch in the US Presidential Elec

And now for a slightly different statistic, which may nevertheless tell us quite something about those fifteen battleground swing states: Democrats on the rise in the most unlikely places.

Here's the link:

Note how this red state is increasingly producing liberal footsoldiers for CO, NM and NV...

Now that's … transformative! :D

Re: 15 States to Watch in the US Presidential Elec

FOX was reporting tonight that Bill Clinton has done much for Obama to win these key states that has gone mostly un-noticed. He has done 7 Obama fundraisers and 10 Obama rallies. However, until the coming week, Obama and Bill have yet to appear onstage together. FOX says that Bill and Hillary will be joining Obama in Orlando sometime later this week for a huge rally. Previously, Fox says Bill has done rallies in FL, OH, PA, NV and VA. Florida is almost even now and the Clintons have always done well, so perhaps this will help in that critically important Orlando/Tampa corridor.

In the meantime, here is a fascinating story on the tensions between the Palin and McCain handlers. She has allegedly "gone rogue" because she doesn't like how the ex-Bush handlers have managed her. Sounds like even the rats are jumping ship. This is a must read:

Re: 15 States to Watch in the US Presidential Elec

Pollster has now moved Georgia into the Toss Up column. And interestingly, they also now have Obama leading in Indiana.

Re: 15 States to Watch in the US Presidential Elec

Some quick Sunday evening state polls:

ARIZONA -- McCain +2 -- Zimmerman -- This on top of the one I posted earlier today that has McCain up by only 4 has some a WOW factor as big as the Grand Canyon.

WEST VIRGINIA -- McCain +6 -- Research2000

MISSOURI -- Obama +1 -- Research2000 -- This on top of the one I posted earlier today from NBC that had McCain at +1 makes me call the Show Me State a tie for now.

ILLINOIS -- Obama +24 -- Research2000 -- Duh?

MINNESOTA -- Obama +5 -- St Cloud St Univ

WISCONSIN -- Obama +7 -- Rasmussen

Also, Rasmussen has changed their weighting again. Despite Coolblue's insistence that they have a right polling bias, they are currently weighting their poll data as 40.0% Democrat and only 32.8% Republican. They adjust these numbers frequently as explained here:

For polling data released during the week of October 26-November 1, 2008, the partisan weighting targets will be 40.0% Democratic, 32.8% Republican, and 27.2% unaffiliated. For the preceding week, the partisan weighting targets were 39.7% Democratic, 33.0% Republican, and 27.3% unaffiliated.

In mid-September, the last weighting targets established before the financial crunch became visible on Wall Street, the targets were 38.7% Democratic, 33.6% Republican, and 27.7% unaffiliated. Since that time, the number of Democrats has increased by 1.3 percentage points and the number of Republicans has declined by 0.8 percentage points for a net swing of 2.1 percentage points

Re: 15 States to Watch in the US Presidential Elec

^ Yeah, as I posted somewhere else, McCain's snap judgment on this one doesn't bode very well for the kinds of judgments he would make in the Oval Office. It also doesn't bode very well for who he would appoint to his Cabinet, or to :bartshock The Supreme Court...

Re: 15 States to Watch in the US Presidential Elec

This is one of the more fascinating reshuffles on Pollster. They have moved Arizona from Solid McCain to Lean McCain, joining South Dakota in that category.

The Toss Up states are:

Nevada - advantage Obama
Montana - advantage McCain
North Dakota - advantage Obama
Missouri - advantage Obama
Indiana - advantage Obama
North Carolina - advantage Obama
Georgia - advantage McCain
Florida - advantage Obama

Re: 15 States to Watch in the US Presidential Elec

Very interesting that McCain loses ground in his red states,if it goes well for Obama, who knows how big electoral votes he might gets.:badgrin:

I don't trust either of them with the Supreme Court; they each support a major plank of a totalitarian agenda.

Re: 15 States to Watch in the US Presidential Elec

A lot of new polls, here is the bottom lines on them:

ARIZONA -- McCain +5 -- Rasmussen

CALIFORNIA -- Obama +27 -- Rasmussen

INDIANA -- McCain +6 -- Rueters/Zogby (R/Z)

IOWA -- Obama +10 -- Marist

MISSISSIPPI -- McCain +13 -- MS Register

MISSOURI -- 1) TIE -- SurveyUSA; 2) Obama +2 -- R/Z

NEVADA -- Obama +4 -- R/Z

Note there are FOUR polls from Virginia and Obama leads by 7, 8, 9 and 11 points. Florida, Missouri, Ohio, Nevada, and North Carolina are still anybody's game.

Re: 15 States to Watch in the US Presidential Elec

Some more new polls this evening:

First, all of these are from Rasmussen/Fox News:

MISSOURI -- Obama +1
OHIO -- Obama +4
COLORADO -- Obama +4
FLORIDA -- Obama +4
VIRGINIA -- Obama +4
NORTH CAROLINA -- McCain +1

And a couple of stray polls:
FLORIDA -- Obama +5 -- Suffolk
ARIZONA -- McCain +8 -- NAU

The positive for Obama is that he is ahead in all the crucial Fox polls above except NC. The negative is that none of them are far ahead of the margin of error.

Re: 15 States to Watch in the US Presidential Elec

Whoa -- that Oregon number surprised me. The news tonight said Obama's lead has moved into double digits, which made me think it's hit like ten points.

Wow.

Re: 15 States to Watch in the US Presidential Elec

It will be close in Florida. We have early voting here (since Oct 20th) and the lines are long. Some people cannot wait that long and are getting discouraged (and getting out of line). Too few early voting places are open in SOME (not all) areas of FL.

But the other positive is that he really only has to win one of those to win the election.

Re: 15 States to Watch in the US Presidential Elec

Big news from Pollster ...... Nevada is now Blue! Woo Hoo!!!

Also, Mississippi has moved from "Strong McCain" to "Lean McCain." McCain's lead is now down to 7 points there.

MONTANA -- McCain +4 -- NBC/MasonDixon

NEVADA -- 1) Obama +4 -- Rasmussen; 2) Obama +10 -- Suffolk

NEW HAMPSHIRE -- Obama +11 -- NBC/MasonDixon

NEW JERSEY -- Obama +15 -- Strategic Vision

NORTH CAROLINA -- TIE -- NBC/MasonDixon

OHIO -- 1) Obama +9 -- LA Times; 2) Obama +4 -- SurveyUSA

WISCONSIN -- Obama +9 -- StrategicVision

PENNSYLVANIA -- 1) Obama +7 -- Rasmussen; 2) Obama +9 -- InsiderAdvantage; 3) Obama +12 -- Morning Call

Re: 15 States to Watch in the US Presidential Elec

North Carolina remains competitive. It makes for a good horse race.

Re: 15 States to Watch in the US Presidential Elec

Yeah, I think just based on sheer mystery, North Carolina is the most compelling story right now followed, in order, by Missouri, Florida, and Ohio. The polls seem to be a draw right now in NC and MO. The polls in FL and OH mostly have Obama slightly ahead, but polling in these 2 states have never been all that reliable, esp FL.

Based on some polling, there are folks that think Georgia and Indiana hold some surprises, but I'm doubtful. These are true red states, and the GOP is pumping alot of resources in both states now not so much for McCain but to solidify future elections. They don't want the perception that these two states are anything but hardcore red. The GOP is pouring a ton of money Saxby's way in GA just to hold on to that senate seat.
