/\ It should be safe to assume that every one of these participants/athletes were fully vaccinated well in advance, right?

And all relatively in good health?

Among the mistakes....

No, Olympic athletes are not required to get vaccinated before the Olympic Games [NBC]
According to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), as well as the Tokyo and Japanese governments, participating athletes and officials will not need to be vaccinated. The IOC, however, is still encouraging countries that do wish to vaccinate their athletes to lead by example.

Ahead of Tokyo Olympics, Japan vaccination rate far from the mark [NBC]
Less than a month away from the lighting of the ceremonial torch, the Japanese government recently announced that it had hit the benchmark of vaccinating 1 million people in a single day.

But hobbled by a slow rollout, a severe shortage of doctors and nurses, and by the fact that it must import all its vaccines, Japan has fully vaccinated just a little more than 8 percent of its people, according to the World Health Organization.

Probably the American athletes are okay because it's likely that they received the mRNA vaccines. What we're finding out is that exposure to someone who is infected does cause a positive COVID-19 test in a vaccinated person, even though they may be asymptomatic.

What we're about to find out the hard way is whether these asymptomatic vaccinated people are infectious. There's not enough studies to know for sure.

And India.

Probably over 3 million dead. Called it from the early days.

Knew they'd fuck it up.

Three million dead? Where are you getting that number?

Maybe?

India's Pandemic Death Toll Estimated At About 4 Million: 10 Times The Official Count [NPR]
How many people have died of COVID-19 since the pandemic began?

The official global total as of this week: 4.1 million.

But everyone agrees the true toll is far greater. A study released on Tuesday looks at how much of a disparity there may be in India, one of the epicenters of the pandemic.

The analysis, from the Center for Global Development, a think tank in Washington, D.C., looks at the number of "excess deaths" that occurred in India between January 2020 and June 2021 – in other words, how many more people died during that period than during a similar period of time in 2019 or other recent years.

Drawing death data from civil registries and other sources, the report came up with three estimates for undercounts. The conclusion is that between 3.4 and 4.7 million more people died in that pandemic period than would have been predicted. That's up to 10 times higher than the Indian government's official death toll of 414,482.

I can't even guess on what the final number will be or when we'll actually know how many millions of people died in India. From the acquaintances I have who have family in India, they are all saying that they know of someone who died- often an extended family member.

Don't be surprised if Brazil and the US also make revisions, too.

FFS, people, are you aware of what it this about yet: it's a VIRUS, and it's India; when everything is bigger in America, everything it's denser among the sons of Bharata.

And if you add...

Again, we should be happy this virus is not more contagious and more deadly.

Things are starting to get worse again. More hospitalizations and deaths in the St. Louis area; nearly all unvaccinated. Spreading here.

But yet, our stupid ass "Mr. Haney" governor:

This is so unnessary. But Mah FreeDumb.

‘The circumstances are dire’: Missouri reports virus count not seen since January [St. Louis Post-Dispatch]

A week ago, the Missouri governor was asked by public health officials to begin planning for a field hospital to reduce pressure on hospitals in southwestern Missouri. Hospitals on both sides of the Kansas-Missouri line are under pressure with COVID-19 patients flooding their emergency room and filling up inpatient beds.

A week later, the governor is still "kind of" thinking about it.

Parson: State Will 'Probably' Help Fund COVID Overflow Site [US News]
"We’re in the process of kind of going through that right now to see what we can deliver and what we can’t,” he said. “Those are things we’ve done before, so I think we’ll be able to do (the funding).”

Missouri hits new peak in delta variant summer surge with almost 3,000 COVID cases [Kansas City Star]
The Department of Health and Senior Services reported 2,995 additional cases, with at least one case in 105 of the state’s 117 local health jurisdictions. The seven-day average of reported cases rose to 2,144 per day, up one-third in seven days and more than triple the average of June 21.

Missouri last reported more than 3,000 additional cases on Jan. 15. The seven-day average is the highest since Jan. 27, when cases were falling steadily from their peak in November.

So far this month, the state health department has reported 33,656 additional cases, 75 percent more than the full month of June. In November, the state recorded more than 126,000 cases.

Hell as usual, with the highest rates of spreading and newly infected, and approaching critical rates of hospitalization, but who cares: over half the population is immunized, and the current vaccination pace is finally catching up with the rate in the USA, that you all seem to find so disappointing.
When there have always been so many pockets of backwardness for even the smallest daily matters, why would it be different with a vaccination program, especially in a country in which individuality/individualism and "diversity" have always been so highly praised.

I can never help but look back to the onset of this...we are obviously now at over 190,000,000 cases world wide and likely rapidly pushing toward the 200 million mark although we could be well over that figure because of under-reporting.

wow.
