91% of the adult population partially vaccinated, with 83% fully vaccinated. Including 12-15 Yr old, 75 % of that cohort partially vaccinated. Yet case numbers hovering between 1,500 and 2,000 per day, which in the overall global context is very insignificant. However here, they are relatively high numbers. But, hospitalizations and ICU cases are a fraction of those witnessed in the 'third wave' witnessed last winter/spring, thankfully.

Compared Aust. population of 25 million Vs China population of 1.4 billion, China did an amazing job.
I do believe the numbers in China because of all the foreigners living in China said so, not from the media who never been to china.

The idea is to make the pandemic manageable for the 1st world. You know, reducing people being miserable and dying just another day at the office, not a threat to sheet balances and political comfort.

Today is the day that the Spanish PM set as the deadline for 70% of immunization for the whole population: obviously, it failed, but it seems to have been achieved for the part that has been vaccinable, the above 12

7-Aug: Ireland: 310,628 (up from 300,976 / +9,652 / 3.2%) - 5,044 deaths (+9)- avg daily: cases (+1,379) / deaths (+1)
14-Aug: Ireland: 324,747 (up from 310,628 / +14,119 / 4.5%) - 5,059 deaths (+15) - avg daily: cases (+2,017) / deaths (+2)

That upswing surprised me and I haven't had a chance to dig into the details. It does seem that Ireland is on the beginning of a surge because the case numbers are still increasing and the death rate hasn't reached the expected 1-2% of the case numbers. It might be that Delta variant is just making its way into the population. It's also worth noting that Ireland had been very aggressive in mitigation which kept the prior case numbers very low but with a high vaccination rate, the increasing case numbers are not what we would expect at this point.

Wow they talk fast.

24-Jul: Spain: 4,280,429 (up from 4,100,222 / +180,207 / 4.4%) - 81,221 deaths (+125) - avg daily: cases (+25,744) / deaths (+18)

14 Aug: Spain : 4,693,540 (up from 4,588,132 / +105,408 / 2.3%) - 82,470 deaths (+464) - avg daily: cases (+15,058) / deaths (+66)

Spain did fall short of their 70% by a little bit but not by much. The problem, as illustrated by a cartoon that I posted earlier, is that the goal line has moved because of the new variants. I haven't seen numbers for the new goals but it wouldn't surprise me if the new vaccination goal is raised to 85%-90% and another booster were added by the end of the year.

One interesting thing about Spain's numbers - new case numbers are drifting downward but deaths are increasing. This hints that they're on the back side of the surge.

But still a lot better than the numbers in Feb-2021 when between 700-900 people were dying every day:
8-Feb-2021: Spain : 2,989,085 (up from 2,941,990 / +47,095 / 1.6%) - 62,295 deaths (+909)

^ You also forget that thousands of Spaniards went on holiday to revel in their own national paradise... in Catalonia they are asking the young, or anyone else up for it who has not revelry as first on their list, to contribute maintaining the vaccination speed.

They are making a big deal of young people not caring about anti-covid rules, but nobody spoke like that of all the elder who died last winter after having saved Christmas revelries.

Well, the US is learning a hard lesson that this year's virus is not the same as last year's virus, particularly for the unvaccinated. That higher viral load in the new variants means that a lot of the younger people (and children) who were assumed to get mild or asymptomatic cases, are getting acute COVID-19 symptoms and are filling up the hospitals.

If Spain is anything like the US, the elderly people who got the vaccines are laying low and choosing good health over jello shots and eurodisco.

^ Because Christmas carols are still far away in their minds...

Damn, I dropped a few dozens of prepositions and what not in my previous posts...

The hospital cases over here are more from people in their 30s to 60s... mainly the victims of that stupid policy with the AZ vaccine: I had been fully vaccinated for two weeks, when my friend nearing retirement age, who got her first dose four weeks before I got mine, was finally receiving her second one.

Recall that, after a rather testimonial launching in very late December, the vaccination process started to speed up in February.

Notice also how the second wave is systematically ignored, even when diagrams for some particular data, like that second one, make the unquestioned "fourth" one flatter and shorter than the second one last summer, when everyone seemed to be for ignoring new waves after the more shocking first one.

It's official. You will be eligible for your 3rd shot 8 months after your second dose. So, if you got your second dose in March, you should plan to get your third dose in November. It's probably good timing since we seem to see surges after holidays. By boosting antibodies before the holidays, we may lessen the post-holiday surge.

Covid-19 vaccine booster shots to be offered to Americans beginning September 20, health officials say [CNN]
US health officials and medical experts announced in a joint statement on Wednesday that booster doses of Covid-19 vaccine will be offered this fall, subject to authorization from the US Food and Drug Administration and sign off from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

"We are prepared to offer booster shots for all Americans beginning the week of September 20 and starting 8 months after an individual's second dose," US health officials, including CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky and FDA Acting Commissioner Dr. Janet Woodcock, said in the statement.

Good deal. I got my second shot March 30. I guess we should all be getting flu shots in September or October? Yes?

I couldn't tell from the linked article if the booster will be updated to cover Delta, Lambda, and others. Does anyone know?
