Taking down deceptive disinformation videos from Youtube takes them away from the millions of people who watch and believe this fraud and then make bad decisions that get themselves and those around them killed from Covid. This disinformation is perpetuating the pandemic, costing lives, costing the economy, and creating division based on demonstrably false information and deception. It is time to shut down the con artists who are making money out their ass at the expense of vulnerable victims. It's not "prudishness", it's protecting the public from abusive, vultures who are using the media under false pretenses for their personal gain.

Preventing people from "making bad decisions" is better achieved by making them realize why the bullshit videos are so: by merely prohibiting, which is what religious or moral zeals always did, you will not be allowing the people vulnerable to what you call "deceptive information" to really know why something is true information and why something else is bullshit and, therefore, you will not protecting them from all the loopholes that evade those "shutting downs". You are clearly specifying that you are aiming more the quackers, the carriers of the disease, than the disease itself: you are more about vain hate than rational protection or healing.

Actually, the very fact that you honour fancies, lies and deceptions with the expression "deceptive information", shows that you are ranking it all as "alternative information", "opinion" or "research".
Information is not something magically or religiously passing from one person to another, it is not some "truth" you have to either accept or distrust, it is not something "coming from" but something being realized and, to achieve that, you must focus on the reasoning able to truly inform people, but also be able to realize when someone does not care about reasoning or truth and, when you get all wrought up and quit reasoning, you will provide them with a new reason, the only one they need, through the mere interdictions, mandates and "shutting down", to reaffirm themselves in their own irrational "personal choice"-.
 
High and mighty platitudes that don't work in the real world. People are going down these disinformation rabbit holes and are dying as a result. Youtube has made the decision to ban the con artists and scammers and take down their lies and disinformation for the good of the public health. It's their right and it is the right move.

Which is exactly what you propose: what I do propose accepts that one will never end avec stupid people and manipulation, any more than one will not end with disease or wars. It's not giving up at all: it's not self-deceiving oneself, pretending a mighty move will solve what it can't: I am only saying "save what can be save".

Your absolute way of perceiving the situation leads to people ending up getting disappointed by not getting absolutely perfect results, and ending up abandoning even the people that could be saved, only because they could not convince every single one of them: for that sort of people, it is not about people dying and "bad people" having their way; for them, it is only about how they feel about it.

It's precisely because I am aware of the limits and accept them, that people like you consider them ineffective, while advocating for high and mighty attitudes that will never lead anywhere, let alone to ending with what annoys them so much.

Saying covid vaccine makes you magnetized, or contains a tracking microchip, or changes your DNA, or doesn't work, or will kill you in 2 years, or has caused hundreds of thousands of deaths, or was not tested properly, or will make you infertile, or will cause miscarriages, or is a plot to control you, is DISINFORMATION that harms people. That's dangerous. It's fraudulent. It has no basis in factual reality. And it has contributed to sickness and death and has extended the pandemic far longer than it should have. Disinformation is lies that are not challenging, they are deceptive frauds that hurt people. They are expanding and proliferating everywhere and need to be stopped, just like any other fraud that takes advantage of people; only this fraud not only takes advantage, it can kill you.

Nope: to cut off a tree you do not have to start cutting off every single sprout and branch from the top. Only afterwards you may care to turn it into splinters, if you want: but it will already be dead.

The roots of the pseudoarguments are comparatively few: distrust of government, how science and technology work, incoherent conception of the concepts of freedom, of social organization... once you have that clear, you dissolve quite a lot of possible misleading memes.

All of that has been tried over and over and over. It has not worked! People still buy the snake oil and dangerous vaccine disinformation. Telling them the truth, empathizing with their "point of view", educated them; all of it has failed. I agree, what you are saying is the preferred approach but the realitic facts are: IT HAS NOT WORKED. It requires some willingness and receptivity on the part listener that simply is not there. At some point you have take the microphone away to stop the damage they're causing. Because expecting their listeners to think, be rational, get educated, is a pie-in-sky intellectual approach that facts and experience show DOES NOT WORK. They just spread the disinformation to other places with the intent to deceive more people. That's why Trump, Lindell, Bannon, Giuliani, Powell, etc. are all banned from social media. Because they LIE and mislead people; people who believe them and take actions that are tearing apart the country and making things works. Heck, Giuliani is even banned FOX now - because he LIES. It's the same reason YT is banning those spewing vaccine disinformation because educating the users - the approach you are advocating - HAS NOT WORKED. They continue to spew disinformation all over the place and laugh at the truth. So Youtube - took away their microphone. It's the right thing to do.

Again, you fail to recognize that the problem of quackers duping stupid people are stupid people who will not recognize lies for what they are: what you propose is sweep the problem under a rug, just like all authoritarian, self-satisfied governments ever did, from a mere pater familias to Soviet Russia, and pretend that you did it very well because you made stupidity and deception less open for everyone to be pissed about it.
 
What you want to do is just let the scammer run wild and hope their victims smarten up and not be victims. Not going to happen.

When someone is perpetrating a fraud upon unsuspecting victims, you arrest the perpetrator and take them off the street. You don't just let them run wild hope people aren't fooled.

The only way to stop a scammer is to stop the scammer. That's what YT did, they banned the scammers and deleted the scam.
