8 GOP Candidates to Speak During Anti-Gay Hatecast

By attacking marriage, as it has historically been known, gays have unnecessarily increased hostility against themselves.

Attacking marriage?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! By desiring to participate in the institution of marriage, we are attacking it?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Do you really think us so despicable that our mere association with an institution devalues it?

"So sad that we can't go down to the club anymore, Eunice. Now they let gays in there!"

Gays already had the right to marry and live together in all but government involvement.

No, we didn't.

Your nonsensical idea that marriage can be accomplished by legal contract - while yet excluding the contractees from recognition by society of the meaning of that contract - is laughable.

It is wrong to say or think that Republicans hate gays because they oppose the change in the definition of marriage.

First, anyone who would deny to another the possibility of love in any aspect of what love means is manifesting hatred. That is not indifference. It is denying to another human the most wonderful (and often the only worthwhile) aspect of being human. It is utter and vile hatred of another human being.

Second, some of the people sponsoring the event in question advocate death to gays. They object so much to biologic diversity within our species that they want to kill off every example of humanity that isn't like them. That is as hateful as hateful gets. NO person of conscience would associate himself with hatred of such magnitude. In fact, this kind of hate speech is so heinous that events like this would be illegal in some western democracies.

And yet, 8 of the 11 Republican candidates for president will today proudly demonstrate how thoroughly they despise their fellow Americans. And the remaining 3 lend their ideologic support.

How is Benvolio not just recognized as a troll by the mods? Seriously these posts, especially in this thread are obviously disingenuous just to rile people up.

I do not believe Huckabee said any such thing. If you follow the lead to the website Newslo, it is a collection of improbable outrageous statements attributed to various people. It is a totally incredible source. I of course agree that concentration camps is an outrageous suggestion, and so would Republicans.

Please show me where some of the people sponsoring the event "want to kill off every example of humanity that isn't like them."

Alas you missed the point. You say: "As a politician he did not espouse or support the statements made by Jeremiah Wright." But you want to believe that everyone who attended the meeting, where someone allegedly advocated death for gays, agreed with what was said. That is logical fallacious, and it was one time, not twenty years.
For the early years of the United States, the governments did not get involved in marriage. No license was required and the state kept no record. Judges could marry, but most marriages were entirely religious. And in the US, after Lawrence v Texas at least, gay marriage was legal in all states. Gays could marry, in church, with tuxedos, a reception, cake, honeymoon and live happily ever after as husband and husband. Little purpose has been served by insisting on government licensing, divorcing and prosecution of bigamy. Any legal advantage to licensed marriage can be handled by contract, and must be weighed against the need for divorce on break up. Nor does it justify the hostility which it has created.

Marriage is in common law first and foremost a civil contract, not some little silly commitment ceremony. It has to do with inheritance and property rights.

If all the states had permitted inter-racial marriage or had not invalidated common law marriages prior to 1923, possibly there would be no need for universal licensing in the wild US.

But once there were licenses for straights and inter-racial marriages...then the same civil right belongs to homos...and the Supreme Court has agreed.

Stormfront and other sources send out people ...some paid...to spread disinformation and daily talking points all over the internet. Of course...I am not suggesting that he is spreading taking points...just addressing the troll comment in general......|

I accidentally ended up on a John McCain site years ago....run by what I assume were his fans.... that was specifically designed to do just what I said...they made a mistake letting me in.....

I made a mistake blabbing about it on a big political board at the time because they took it down real quick....but not before at least a handful of people got to see it....

When one troll goes...another one or two show up. They pretty much ruined every single news site on the Internet in the comments section....

Weren't you the one who said Kasich was as bad on gay rights as the others ? Yeah that was you

You're the guy who says everyone is a racist everyone is anti-gay, etc.

Which is very dangerous as it allows the real ones to blend in

Shame

Licensing, divorcing and anti-bigamy laws are burdens rather than rights.

Licensing, divorcing and anti-bigamy laws are burdens rather than rights.

Nonsense.

The license is merely the proof to others of the right to do something and in return it ensures that the person is entitled to having their union recognized legally no matter what the bias of others may be.

Divorce is nothing more or less than the legal dissolution of a contract that will be recognized by all, no matter what their personal bias might be. It frees the parties to then pursue other contracts with other willing parties. Like all contract dissolution procedures, it is intended to ensure that the rights of each party are protected under law.

As far as anti-bigamy laws go, I can't answer for them and they are not germane in the least to the question of homo marriage.

I still can't believe that a lawyer would write the nonsense that you do on the subject of marriage.

Gay who remarry without divorce commit the felony of bigamy carrying a prison sentence. Without government involvement gays can marry, split and remarry at will. That is actually the direction in which straights are moving with more couples living together without marrying and with frequent and easy divorces for those who do.

I just knew that Benvolio would completely defend all of this, but I wasn't sure how, but...VOILA...it happened.

Without exception, in that world, NO REPUBLICAN CAN EVER DO ANYTHING WRONG. The idea that gay people should be discriminated against, deprived of human rights, AND KILLED, is absolutely, entirely, and incredibly wonderful. I didn't think there was something you could hate even more than you hate America itself.

And, by your corollary, NO DEMOCRAT CAN EVER DO ANYTHING RIGHT.

This thread is the most depressing thing I've perhaps ever read on the internet, because it tells me that if we end up with a Republican president, THIS COUNTRY IS DEAD. And, very possibly, I will need to flee in fear of my life.

What hogwash. I have not defended killing as you have. We have had many Republican presidents and Congresses and the US was far better than now. It is you hate America.

I'll be interested to see or read what the candidates say ......

And then you'll have a fuller picture of their positions

Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee refused to retract a statement he made in 1992 calling for the isolation of AIDS patients. Responding to an Associated Press questionnaire, Huckabee said steps should be taken to "isolate the carriers of this plague" during his failed run for a U.S. Senate seat from Arkansas 15 years ago.

Until same sex was made legal, straight married couples had well over 1000 privileges and protections guaranteed by law. Got it? Social Security, inheritance, insurance, hospital visitations. And that's an extremely short list.
