A Gay Teen kills himself after being outed on the internet!

My heart breaks all over again when I read of his death. What a waste.

Like Operafan, my heart breaks over and over whenever I think of this poor boy feeling so alone and destroyed that he had to escape his life. There is nothing that can be shown to lessen the domineering influence of Ravi over Tyler as he chose death rather than humiliation and the flaying of his soul.

What we need are international campaigns of awareness, such as the "One Punch Can Kill" campaign we had in Queensland and Western Australia. Apart from increasing awareness among the population of the dangers of hitting another person even once, it effectively meant that nobody can claim any longer, in those states that ran with the campaign, that they are ignorant of the foreseeable likelihood of one blow being able to kill another person, as shown in Queensland's Supreme Court. A campaign that sweeps the internet and popular media of TV, radio and newsprint stating that outing/other intimidation and threats of violence, implied or otherwise, can kill would mean that offenders facing court could reasonably be expected to have been aware that their actions would lead to the suicide of another, or even the murder of another.

Croistoir, I read a most absorbing essay about the whole thing in the book Freakonomics—an absolutely absorbing essay.

They attempted to look at the drop in the crime rate from every conceivable angle, with a particular focus on New York City. I'm sure you remember just how horrible the crime rate was in the 70s and 80s. In fact, I believe the only place that had a worse one was Bogota, Columbia.

Anyway, all of the old saws, including Rudy Giuliani's role in the drop in the crime, were studied, and for one reason or another, they were all rejected. (In Giuliani's case, it's a not-too-widely known fact that the crime rate had been dropping anyway.)

What they came up with was two major causes for the drop in crime: 1) They locked up the criminals, and 2) Abortion became legal in 1974.

Now, the word "prophylactic" describes
*one thing that prevents
*something else from happening.

In sexual terms, a rubber (the "prophylactic") prevents pregnancy; in criminal justice, incarceration (the "prophylactic") prevents the crime...

un wanted kids becomes criminals.
That make sense and i support abortion rights. ..|

RIP Tyler...here's hoping that in time, your death and the countless other ones won't have been in vain.

I can't forget Tyler either. I lost about half my facebook friends with my anti-bullying posts. And I don't care, who needs them.

Tyler, you will always be in heart, RIP.

I doubt anyone here will likely forget, ever. Nor the other young people who died around that time and since. If anything, it raised a great awareness of the plight of youngsters in a bad situation, and for them to know that it gets better. Keeping the latter as a reminder to them and everyone is what we need to keep doing.

Anderson Cooper, who has promised no to, has already forgotten... When it was an issue that was good for his rating, he spoke about bullying and gay bashing almost everyday fo about a week... but now, almost nothing...

Of course, I do not wish another round of suicide, but I would like the media to have maintained the pressure!
