A Gay Teen kills himself after being outed on the internet!

Had to register just to post a comment, since I can't stop thinking about this story. RIP Tyler. Everyone here had to go through the evolutionary process of coming out. It took me a long, long time. To have it thrust upon you so cruelly and in a public way by these creeps is one of the saddest things I've ever heard. Hopefully, they will upgrade this to a hate crime but even if these two only get a year in jail instead of five or fifty, I hope they can never find a job or have a sound night's sleep.

I only wish you had a support base that could have gotten you though this. You apparently were a talented kid who had a lot ot offer this world, unlike the people who did this to you.

Peace.

can you please answer this questions? ](*,)

hate crime?
Are they against gay people?
Are they homophobic or just make stupid mistake/stupid games like most kids do ?

Some people just jump to the primitive mop violence attitude of "stone them" without facts/proofs.

I'm wondering the same thing myself, Telstra. I'm sure there was some homophobia involved, but I think you have to prove malicious intent or something like that. I'm not a lawyer, so I really don't know.

Sex is fascinating there's no doubt about that. But the victim felt he was being targeted not because he was active but because he was gay. His posts here say as much.

and so I feel like it was "look at what a fag my roommate is"
--other people have commented on his profile with things like "how did you manage to go back in there?" "are you ok?"

Ravi did what he did for attention. He was able to gather attention, not because it was sex, but because it was gay sex.

There are many unreasonable societal pressures that contributed to this suicide. The Pope, "bishop?" Eddie Long, Pat Robertson and The National Organization for Marriage among others, who constantly demean homosexuals by calling us "abominations." Don't you think that their influence and misguided followers are more responsible for this suicide than the two student perpetrators? In a more ideal, tolerant and enlightened society, the recording of two guys kissing might have been laughed at by both victim and the two perpetrators........ Very sad.

This is my first post on this site, and it is sad that it is on this thread. I have went through some of the same thoughts that Tyler Clementi did. When I was younger my dad had thoughts that I might be gay and was threatening to "send me to get help" and etc... so I kept it covered up of course, cause of the fear that was struck into me. On 9-10-2010(my Birthday) I came out to My father and Mother and Sister. I am 23 years old now. So I have for years had the pain that many young men and boys have of not knowing what to do. I realize now that even though it is hard to get yourself to do , it is best to come on out and just to be yourself. There is so much relief off of you once you do this, and then there is nothing to hide. Your family will accept it if they truly love you. Your "TRUE" friends will accept it if they like you, I have lost some friends since then but the ones that cared for me I have actually bonded stronger with. These guys that did this to Tyler with the Web Cam desrve not just invasion of privacy but that is sexual harrasment, and should be charged with that also. I hope that something good for the Future of the Gay community(as in the kids who are afraid to come out) comes out of this tragic situation. My heart is with Tylers Family and friends.

yes, stone the big fish first ...

Well, the story has *finally* made it to the NBC Evening News.

Brian Williams looked genuinely sad and upset while reading it.

Millions more folks have just learned of the tragedy.

I feel so sad every time I see his story and of countless others.

Even my Atheist beliefs are put in the backseat and hope Tyler is in a much better place than where he left; and pray to any listening just help us stop this hate and love our fellow human!

Some students on the Busch campus in Piscataway seemed dazed by the turn of events, remembering their last glimpse of Mr. Clementi. Thomas Jung, 19, shared a music stand with Mr. Clementi in the Rutgers Symphony Orchestra.

On Wednesday afternoon, hours before Mr. Clementi’s death, the two rehearsed works by Berlioz and Beethoven. “He loved music,” Mr. Jung said. “He was very dedicated. I couldn’t tell if anything was wrong.”

I don't have words that express how I feel. So many memories of being eighteen and having thoughts of suicide. Thank god I was too chicken to follow through on them. I can't stop crying, that poor kid.

I don't look at the coming out section very often, but I will now. Maybe something one of us says will prevent someone else from doing this.

Rest in peace cit2mo.

Re: Gay Teen Kills Himself After Unknowingly Being Internet Broadcasted Having Sex

Oh man.

So it was cit2mo? I was hoping it was just a coincidence. :(

Although I didn't post in his thread last week, I read it and had been waiting for him to post an update on the situation. When I heard Whoopi introduce this story on The View this morning, I got goosebumps. The whole situation is tragic and heartbreaking.

RIP Tyler.

This is so sad. I'm wondering what about this seemed like a good idea to his roommate. It never ceases to amaze me what some people consider appropriate and funny when in fact, they are neither. In my opinion, enough bad stuff can't happen to these 2 kids. Have they been expelled yet from Rutgers?

That's a horrific thing to wish on anyone. I don't know, I don't see how that will help the situation at all, or teach anyone a lesson. If anything, members here should be hoping that steps are taken in colleges and student bodies across the nation to prevent things like this from occurring again. Nothing of true value is going to be gained by these two leading unfruitful lives. If anything I hope that they have learned a lesson, and when they get out of jail are able to teach others why what they did was detrimental and how it has changed their lives. There's nothing like learning from people that have experienced issues first-hand.

i agree there has ben to meny young people have taken there lives or have ben betup for ho thy are and we as a country should not put up with this kine of lost of young life

RIP young man

ABC World News picked it up too. Diane Sawyer also looked genuinely sad.

What a waste of a young man's life. My thoughts are with his family and friends. Thanks for posting this guys. I'm on the west coast and will watch in a couple of hours.

I’m heartsick over this.

I read the thread where Tyler Clementi sought advice and was struck by his calmness, gentleness, maturity and above all, by his decency and integrity.

and yah, revenge never ends well for me, as much as I would love to pour pink paint all over his stuff.....that would just let him win.....

He could have retaliated in kind, but he chose not to.

Tyler Clementi was a remarkable teenager. It would have been quite something for his family and friends to see him turn into a remarkable man.

Was he out to his parents? My first thought was that maybe he ended his life for fear of his parents throwing him out and refusing to pay for college.
That does happen even in this day and age as sad as it is.

I've heard he was out and then I've heard he wasn't, so I'm not sure which is true.

Such a sad and tragic waste.

But this is the lesson we teach our youth today. In a world where we are bombarded with a media obsessed with celebrity, where news is filled with cheap, titillating character assassination above real issues, where Perez Hilton's ilk can out and shame whomever they please, where news organisations actually employ people to shame others, where page clicks are more important than ethics, respect and decency. How can we expect people to show compassion and decency when the examples they are given by media, by politicians, by celebrities, is no better?

We reap what we sow.
