Why should I, a hard-working citizen who pays his taxes and is able to hold his own job, have to pay for someone else's care? Now my taxes are gonna go up to pay for some drug addict bum who can't keep a job. And by the way, get ready to have hospitals overcrowded and you guys having to wait long lines with this "universal healthcare" idea. If you want to help out crackwhore jobless bum that's your business, but I shouldn't be obligated to pay for someone's life insurance.

As I said before in another thread, my issue with this bill is why we're required to have healthcare insurance? I have a healthcare plan, so I have no problem with it, yet, but I know some older (yes, I know) folk who feel as if the most they need is dental care, which apparently isn't covered in the bill.

Is the troll I smell?

It depends on how much you make a year.

A common misconception is that Democrats tax everyone.

No, the tax increases only come to the payroll tax on the wealthy.

Did you read the bill and how revenue to pay for health care reform is produced?

I doubt it
Umm, You tax the wealthy they pass it on to you. Do you really believe they are paying for it themselves?

So I take it you've read the bill yourself? Where exactly does it say I won't be taxed as a middle class citizen?

Is this the discredited trickle-down theory you are trying to espouse?

There is no way the wealthy could possibly pass on a tax increase to the poor who only make but a fraction of what the rich are taxed.

Yes.
Are you serious? The wealthy likely sell you goods. They will now charge more. the wealthy pay wages. They will likely pay less. They will not pay the taxes. We will.

An increase in payroll tax on the wealthy will not cover all the costs.
The Insurance companies are For-Profit, Insurance increases are inevitable.
President Obama only said they could not have unreasonable increases.
When the wealthy are maxed out on taxes, Where do you get new revenue?

^not necessarily...

The bill MANDATES that insurance companies spend a MINIMUM of 80% - 85% of their PREMIUMS towards claims...

CURRENTLY they're at about 60%...

As you've read from other posters, the taxes are only on those over $200k in income.

As to your theory on overcrowded hospitals, you couldn't be more wrong on the effect. Currently the uninsured use the emergency room at the cost of the taxpayer to receive common treatment. This would reduce/eliminate the non-emergency's as they now have insurance to go to the doctors.

Yeah good for you but don't think in a fucking few seconds that you can't become some bum with life changing, asset burning, job limiting/destruction
Catastrophic illness or injury.
One day the nice beach side 300 k Condo, the next chapter 7, in a wheel chair on SSDI waiting to get on a program to learn how to wipe yourself properly as the rest of your life is in the wheel chair.
And guess what as things stand before health care reform, like today the taxpayers will pay for it all once you "spend down" your massive estate and can't take care of yourself for the rest of your life, your secure income and lifestyle are shot now its about fighting for medical care and putting the best roof over your head you can.
There goes that 2009 Volkswagen, here come bus tokens from some county social agency so you can get on a van that hauls wheelchair bound people to the save a lot, forget the name brand top line foods they are history like your legs are... now you get to use food stamps at Save a lot buying bulk generic rice.
Only a adult with a very small selfish mind doesn't realize this can't happen to them or someone they love dearly. Because it does every day and not just to 70 yr olds either.
Unless you are wealthy, I mean wealthy you will get wiped out quickly and join the bums you're talking about in the fight for resources. You are not, most are not but they think they are and add themselves into the elite class, they are legends in their own mind even if they have a good income and hard working they are far from rich and illness will knock them down so many pegs in such a short time they won't know what hit em.
But when it happens they are in line for all the programs they knock and look with disgust at others who use them.
There are far more people in dire need that are just as good as you, hard working as you and get knocked on their ass with health and trauma on a daily basis. Why you only want to see the crack whores is just total bullshit.
And if that car waste you at a intersection causing your life to be forever changed you deserve that same help if you need it, even if you are a big shit head.

None of the premise of your question is correct.

Do you know what life insurance is?

You already do pay for other people's healthcare and you already benefit from other people helping you pay for your healthcare. No person is an island. You could have been born in Niger or Haiti or Malawi or Ethiopa and worked 100x harder than you as a hard-working citizen have to this point. And you know what? You still wouldn't have access to good health care. It's not just about grit and will--that's not how the world works.

I could go line by line through your premise and dissect it, but just read some real news!!! I don't care if you keep listening to whatever you do now, whether it's Fox, or talk radio, or just folksy info from friends, but ADD to it! Read more!

Bluliite, why should money be taken out of my paycheck so someone else's kid can go to school for free until they're 18? Why should I have to pay so someone else can drive on a road if I walk everywhere? Why should my taxes go towards firemen if my house never burned down? Should my taxes be used to pay police if I never call them?

If any of these sounds absurd to you (hopefully they all do) then you will understand all of our reactions to your post.

Just a little ray of sunshine, aren't you?

You maybe didn't think of this but you're ALREADY paying for those people you look down on whether they're on crack or not. See, all those "free clinics" and emergency rooms full of poor people who get "free" care?

Who do you think is paying for that now? (hint: you, Mr. Tax Payer.)

Emergency Care is the most expensive and least-effective care there is.

Now that those people will have insurance, they can get a doctor to go to instead of a hospital where you won't see them. And they can get preventative care so they don't need to go to emergency rooms for problems that can be treated better if treated early.

So when you go to get that big stick out of your ass, you'll be the first guy the doctor will see.

Won't that be nice?:gogirl:

Well your very stupid older friends who feel they don't need insurance better hope they're never in a car accident.. or get cancer... or are mugged... or crushed by a falling tree.

Because right now.. when those things happen to the uninsured... YOU AND ME are paying for their care. THAT is why they should be required to pay their own way.

God, blulite. Some of you people who are against universal healthcare are some of the stupidest knuckledraggers to walk the face of the earth.

As Jasun points out, you are already paying for the uninsured.

Whether it is through the emerg department or the personal bankruptcies.

Christ. Who made all the conservatives so fucking stupid in your country?
