That's the first line in this thread. The OP knew "all lives matter" was offensive, knew he was going to get shit for it, knew what people were going to think, knew who came up with it and why.

All the later protestation of just wanting to discuss and understand are bullshit. He didn't ask people if it was offensive, he didn't want an explanation, he wanted to complain.

This topic isn't about understanding the bigotry of that particular statement, it's about why the Op feels slighted when people say Black Lives Matter.

Nah, I don’t think so. The OP sent me a private message soon after this discussion started. I have no reason to doubt his sincerity. If there is a lesson, perhaps it relates to stating your objective at the beginning. (e.g. “The point that I am trying to make is …”) Once you’ve launched your main point, be bold and prepare to defend what you have pronounced. Our discussions should never become personal disputes, nor should we assume that we know the other guy’s motivation(s). Take part in the topic presented for discussion or pass it by.

Keep in mind that it is reasonable to present and defend a position or argument to which you do not personally subscribe. Sometimes you learn more from trying to defend the other guy’s point of view than from telling your own.

I just drank an entire glass of Clorox four hours ago (lol). I know it's not going to protect me from SARS CoV-2, but my brain REALLY needs to be sterilized and bleached right now.

I was running errands four hours ago here in far western Illinois, and I drove by the city park. There was a protest of maybe 7 or 12 people going on at the northwest corner where any protests are habitually held here. I saw somebody holding a sign which DID NOT say "Black Lives Matter." OK, so what did the sign say? I'll play a guessing game with you here. See if you can guess what was on the sign.

No, it WASN'T the rather questionable "ALL LIVES MATTER." And, no, it also wasn't the even-more-questionable pro-policing "BLUE LIVES MATTER" either.

No...and, a spoiler, you can see the message by HIGHLIGHTING the area between the two hashtags:

My EWWWWWWWW!! meter went so far off the chart that the needle broke when it slammed into the top value on the meter, and there was a small sonic boom as well from the needle traveling so fast.

I'm gonna be SO happy when I can finally be done entirely with this damned Trumptown and see it in my rearview mirror.
