  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Am I the only one that just found out about gangnum style?

Watch this if you haven't already. It's actually pretty amazing that this one song can bring about such a large obsession. These thousands of people have forgotten about all their daily shit and can come together for 3 minutes.

I'm sorry your innocence has been shattered. My ears have thus far been spared.

I wish I could say the same about "Call me, maybe", "Friday". Those aural holocausts still haunt my mind.

Just so you know...the earth is not flat. Just sayin'

That you're late to the party should be a mark of distinction. I take no pride that I arrived earlier than you. I assume you've had wortheir distractions--being the last to discover mass popular phenomena should inspire admiration more than anything else.

The popular music industry has a category for these hits: summer novelty songs. A sort of musical snow cone. Unfortunately, unlike--for example--"Vida Loca", few of us can sing along with these lyrics, and isn't that half the fun?

Plus Ricky Martin was hot. (Still is.)

If you didn't, you should at least watch the video - it's absolutely hilarious, and the main source of popularity for the whole phenomena. The song itself is nothing to write home about.

blasphemy!

Perhaps I may indulge the video on mute... perhaps

I've never heard of this thing in my life. All I know is what people have said about it in this thread. Something similar happened a few years ago when they announced on the news that the Spice Girls were disbanding. That was the first time I'd heard of them.

Unless someone is really closed from the media or has never accessed TV or Internet, yes, you might be the only one who hasn't heard about it. Ellen DeGeneres even put one in her show.

It's the new world poison a.k.a. terribly overrated.

Even my batch made a flash mob dancing gangnam in front of the bewildered parents and professors during the graduation day. I don't know whether to be proud or to shoot myself.

Well I guss I have been living under the same rock that you have been under, I have never seen this before!!

This past weekend b/f and I went to this halloween party. The usual with some people dancing and some people drinking, talking, etc. B/f and I was on the dance floor most of the night.

Anyway, as soon as this song started playing, which I never heard before, I was stunt to observe almost everyone at the party just got up and danced to the music. Never saw that before.

I later asked this girl about it, and she was surprised that I never heard of psy gangnum style.

The following day I looked it up and holy cow apparently this song has now become the most popular song in the world history of songs. It's been the #1 hit single in 33 countries for a month. Even the UN has declared it the closest thing to world united.

How did I completely miss this? Anyone else just as clueless as I was?

no youre not alone. I just saw it on Ellen and had no idea what it was. reminds me of the Macarena back in the day. just a dumb fad that will be played at weddings and such.

It is the equivalent of a meme.

It is just the Chicken Dance for this decade.

I only saw the video when Mitcho posted on JUB,
then i watched PSY's music video history, he is very very good at what he do with other songs as well.

Don't know what it is, and based on the reactions in this thread, I don't think I wanna know.

Well, a lot of other stupid videos now make sense. (There's a commercial running on TV at the moment featuring it. I think it takes place on a football field.) But I agree with a few of the comments above. It's a fad and will be a one-hit wonder, just like The Macarena and A Little Bit of Monica.
