American Family Association Going After Home Depot For Supporting the GLBT Community

The hate group, the AFA, continues to go after Home Depot.

Home Depot has added "Out and Equal Workplace Advocates" http://www.outandequal.org/ to their list of organizations that they support. https://careers.homedepot.com/cg/content.do?p=divorgs

Here is a copy of their most recent email from the hate group, the AFA:
Home Depot's website now states the company's support for "Out and Equal Workplace Advocates," a gay political activist organization heavily promoting legalization of gay marriage and gays in the military, and celebrating activities such as Transgender Remembrance Day.

AFA has repeatedly asked The Home Depot to remain neutral in the culture wars, but the company has continued to promote the homosexual agenda.

On March 29, AFA invited The Home Depot to meet with AFA to discuss our concerns. They did not respond.

NEW! To help promote the boycott, AFA has produced the AFA Pass Along Sheet.
http://action.afa.net/uploadedFiles/Activism/National_Activism/Home_Depot_passalongsheet.pdf
Please print copies of this sheet and share them with your neighbors, friends and co-workers. Encourage them to join the boycott of The Home Depot.
TAKE ACTION
1. If you have not done so, sign the Boycott Pledge at BoycottTheHomeDepot.com.
2. Print copies of the AFA Pass Along Sheet for distribution.
3. Print the paper petition and distribute it at Sunday school and church.
4. Let The Home Depot know how much money they are losing. Each time you make a purchase at a competitor store, call The Home Depot at 1-800-466-3337 to let them know how much you spent with their competitor

Transgender Remembrance Day. ???

That's a new one on me.

At any rate, the AFA are assholes, we know this... They're just making themselves look silly.

Oh, and BTW I was at that St Pete Pride festival last year, and as Pridefests go, it was a very tame one. PG-rated at best. (Possibly because it was about 110 humid degrees out that day...)

But what they are trying to prove with that clip escapes me.

Oh gesh....the hate group, AFA, have 500,000 that have pledged to boycott Home Depot for supporting the GLBT community

They're lieing -- I was just at their web site and it only shows 396k.

I don't think those particular festivals were particularly raunchy... but they do kind of have a point.

The pride parades I've been to (both in Portland, OR) were pretty damn raunchy and extravagant. I only went a second time because my friends were all going and I didn't want to be left alone all weekend... but honestly, I really dislike the kind of attitude those parades give off. It's not "we're gay, and proud," it has to be "we're gay, and proud, and so we're going to parade around mostly nude and practically have sex in the streets."

Eh, not my cup of tea, and I can see why people would be cautious about bringing children (however, that's no reason to boycott a company, especially in this particular case of a REAL gay pride festival, rather than a sex-parade).

-AFA has repeatedly asked The Home Depot to remain neutral in the culture wars-

if these people follow the prince of peace,

why are they always at war?

Good question.

The apostle admonishes, "Be at peace with all men."

FAIL.

Not to rain on this rah rah Home Depot parade, but the one I used to go to sold me broken goods (twice), dead batteries requiring two trips to return each set, both packs of two which they returned to the display on the wall (I marked each blister pack with a pen); a floor lamp I had to throw out because it sells with an irreplacable bulb; wrong materials not fit for the purpose even after explaining to the "associate" what I needed; and stalled for months returning my money for a bastard-size storm door that wasn't delivered for three months, then when it was, discovering it was incorrectly cut and built 2,000 miles away in another country — which explained all the delays — after the doorway was measured by one the morons they hire.

Fuck Home Depot and the wooden horse it rode in on.

P.S. Turned out the door didn't need to be special order. When I finally got my money back I bought one elsewhere off the rack for a couple of hundred less. Home Depot lied.

I've done frequent business with five different Home Depots, and never gotten anything but excellent service. None of what you describe applies to any of them, except the lap thing -- even they are stuck with vendors who decide what the store is going to sell (an idiotic business). I've never had any problems with returns or credits. Once I got to use their delivery truck free because their associate had told me over the phone that the item I was picking up would fit in my pickup, but it didn't. I've returned things that didn't work; they tested the items, and if they couldn't make it work, they splatted it with a gross orange/pink spray paint to mark it as unsellable, scanned it into the system to be returned to the manufacturer or tossed, and given me a new one.

And when I've run into things they didn't have, more than once an associate has gone to their computer system, where they can look up what their competitors carry and send me where I can find it -- once the guy even printed me a map from Google maps (and corrected it, putting me on a back road that saved ten minutes each way.

Maybe most amazing, when my service dog threw up on their floor once, they refused to let me do the cleaning up, got him some cool water, and asked where all I'd been in the store -- then sent someone around to check to see if there was anything that could have been the cause.

I think your Home Depot is a fluke. It probably has a crappy manager. I recommend reporting all this to their main HQ, using their web site. If their regional manager is like the one here, you'll see changes.

The wait for the door actually took about six months. I think they lost or otherwise buggered the first one they received when it was manufactured. I had ordered it in the spring of 2009, April I think, but it might have been March, and finally had the second one from another store installed in October.

The old door was made of wood, was at least 60 years old, was so warped it wouldn't close and was falling apart. By the time the new one was on, a bottom panel of the old one had fallen off, leaving a foot-and-a-half gap, with winter fast coming on.

When it turned out Home Depot's door was SIX INCHES too wide, I demanded they cancel the transaction (I had filled out a credit-card form for a cheap interest rate that turned out to be with CitiBank in the States). The alleged manager wanted me to wait two more months, making it late November or early December. All this for a door that DIDN'T have to be custom made — as those jerks told me it would have to be — in some southern state, Alabama or Mississippi, I think (no metric measurements were used; the house is too old).

At first the manager refused the refund and told me he would credit it to my account. I told him it would take until hell froze over before I could spend that amount of money in a DIY store because I'm all thumbs. After more discussion he finally agreed to cancel the thing. I hadn't been stuck for the amount because the door had yet to be installed.

I didn't report the problem because I figured that if a manager ran the store like that, the company would know about it, as I would hardly be the first. I still think that's true.

I was astonished at all the Home Depot back-slapping going on here.

Two weeks ago, I received an unrequested CitiBank credit card in the mail. You can guess what I did with it.

Always report such people.

With Home Depot, it would make a difference. Crap, when I had a hassle with one HD employee and mentioned it to the customer service counter, the next time I was there they asked me to wait -- and the employee in question came and apologized! She'd also been put in a training group to learn to handle such situations better.

I've gotten to where I have no problem just telling an 'associate' if I don't think he/she is doing a good job.

They never stop....

Home Depot is having its annual shareholder meeting this week. Many shareholders are upset with Home Depot's sponsorship of numerous gay pride events and support for homosexual marriage.

Shareholders will be addressing the board of directors personally this week and plan to make sure the board of directors know they need to end the boycott! But...they need YOUR support.

Your local store manager is the closest personal contact you can have with the company. They are the "eyes and ears" of the company and can make sure your concerns get to the right people.

TAKE ACTION
Today, call your local Home Depot store and ask to speak to the manager. You can find the number to your local store here (click "Store Finder" at top of page) or in your local phone book.

Politely let him know you are boycotting his store until the company agrees to remain neutral in the culture wars and stops supporting homosexuality.

Sample call text:
Hello, my name is ________. I'm calling to let you know that I will not be shopping at your Home Depot store until the company agrees to remain neutral in the culture war and stops supporting homosexual activist groups and activities.

I know you do not make the decisions for the company and may not have a lot of influence on company decisions. However, since you represent the company in our community, I'm asking you to forward my message to your district manager or directly to the corporate office.
The American Family Association has set up a special website if you would like more information on why I am boycotting your store. The website address is www.BoycottTheHomeDepot.com.

Thank you for your time, and for listening to my concerns.
It is very important that you forward this alert to your friends and family members and ask them to call too.

Sincerely,

Tim Wildmon, President
American Family Association

They never stop....

...and they never will. ](*,)

If I could turn the clock back, I would become a building contractor so I could buy lots o' stuff from Home Depot. ;)

The "family" bunds should read/watch Popeye, who was famous for his declaration, "I yam who I yam." :=D:

Groups like the AFA need a cause to unify them as an organization, so they go after gays. They get members riled up for support and then there's a cause to fight.

How many remember when organizations like this unified themselves against the "godless communists"? That was the glue that held them together. With the fall of communism a new villain was needed, so *presto*, go after the gays. Translated to their advantage, it even says homosexuals are an abomination in their Bible so it works out pretty slick.

It's all about power and fundraising. Attention getting protests draw more members and more funds. But why is this organization so interested in what men do in their bedrooms and the sex lives of others? Remember a year ago George Rekers, the rabidly anti-gay pastor from the Family Research Council was caught with a gay male prostitute. Chances are the AFA is populated with self-loathing gay men like this also.

So you can tell Home Depot how much you appreciate them:

So you can find a local store and go show your appreciation:

The theory is that if we approve of gays then God is going to do a Sodom and Gomorrah on the country. They don't care that the Bible identifies the sin of S&G as inhospitality (which they're very good at), or that other countries have admitted that gays have equal rights and we aren't seeing any fire and brimstone, or that God gave this country a foundation that says ALL are created equal and are supposed to be treated as equal.

Oh -- these guys just get together with gay prostitutes as research, so they understand what they're fighting.

Hypocrisy at it's best, the AFA.

If Homebase saw a significant drop it its sales, it might be 'scared'. But I don't think so.

The petition garnered 470k signatures.

The US Census data says the predicted number of households by 2010, on page 3, will be 78 million households.

April 2011, Home Depot's website had almost 20 million unique visits. http://siteanalytics.compete.com/homedepot.com/?metric=uv

Assuming each visit is from a single household.... That's a quarter of the homes across the US.

So, in comparision, even if we assume the worst that all 470k petition signers were Home Depot users, that still only makes 470,000/20,000,000 = 470/20,000 = 47/2000 = 0.0235 or 2.35% of households.

Since not all the signatories may not be Home Depot users, nor can the number of signatories we verified as real people or people who have signed up several times, the numbers are insignificant. Moreover, if signatories are from the same household, that will also reduce the significance of the total number of signatories.

I suspect AFA members who signed up to the boycott may not do so, especially if convenience makes them unable to get the product they want at a cheaper price elsewhere.

The AFA's numbers may look impressive (to them), but they're a drop in the ocean for Home Depot.
