Remember that scene in All About Eve, where Margo arrive at the theater to find that Eve has already given a performance as her understudy and everyone won't shut up about how awesome she was? In that film, they were wise NOT to show the actual performance and instead they just let the other actors "react" to it, to sell the audience on how great it was. Because they knew that for all her skill, Anne Baxter (or anyone really) would never be able to believably outshine Bette Davis. So better to not even show it and just let everyone else say she did it.
What I'm saying is...they should've just had the judges praise Jessica and not shown us her second performance, because her "And I'm Telling You" was awful and didn't warrant the praise they had obviously calibrated in advance. She was better on Etta James.
Joshua sounded like he was taking off his jacket again on "Man's World", and Philip sounded like someone was taking off his balls again with a pair pliers (on both songs...like every single time he sings).
Hollie was disappointing -- especially since she'd been on something of an upswing -- and she's clearly the one the judges want gone, but I'm hoping this results in the activation of her fan base (whoever the fuck that is) and she stays. I loved how unflappable she remained even when they piled on her (again) all, "Meh whatever, I still got this."
I'm still holding on to some crazy hope that weeks of over-hype will result in P-Squared's fan base getting complaisant and he'll end up just another check mark on Hollie's hit-list.
