I think results are questionable based on a flawed voting system. The volume of voting far exceeded the capability of the voting system. From what I could tell, the lines were busy from opening to closing. The automated dialing systems that were in place trying to predict the results by counting the busy signals probably interfered with the results. Let's face it, 100 million votes far exceeds the number of people watching the show. It's time for one vote per phone number. That way everyone who wants to vote will have a fair chance to vote.

With that said, I'm not surprised that Chris won. The people who vote for American Idol tend to prefer the clean cut, wholesome singers. The exposure is what is important. Keep in mind the third best selling AI contestant didn't even make it to the finals. While Chris is very talented and should have a good career, it will pal in comparison to Adam's. As Simon noted, Adam can be a worldwide star.

Hmm....

I never really watched much American Idol, usually only got stuck watching recaps while waiting for Fringe to start, as AI ALWAYS went over time.

From what I could gather, I wouldn't listen to Adam Lambert as a singer...I just didn't care for it. Gay or not, I heard him massacre a version of 'Mad World', and that was what made me wonder why people like hearing him sing.

Sure, Kris sounds a lot like a lot of other artists with the same shtick, but let's really face it: Other than Kelly Clarkson, are any of the Idol winners really that popular?

Talent-wise, it was not close from what little I have heard from the two of them. I can't see Kris getting a record deal. Its not that he is vanilla but that he is not that talented.

Hahaha...I had to laugh at that statement. Britney Spears, Madonna, and Ciara? Just a few examples of women who could not sing at all and still ended up with recording contracts. Janet Jackson, Diana Ross, Justin Timberlake, and Jason Mraz? Just a few examples of people who can sing, but have mediocre singing voices.

American voted almost 100 million times for Adam and Kris for American Idol!!!

True, both guys have talent; but I (imho) have NEVER seen anyone with the kind of talent Adam has!

Both of these guys "will" get record contracts; but I think Adam will be like Daughtry and end up being the Top Dog of Season 8.......

............and Adam not only sang well with Kiss, he also did very, very well with Queen too! He is without a doubt a "Rocker"!!!!

This AI final show was very intertaining, dontcha think? lol

I just assumed, once homosexual America learned that Adam is/might be gay, decided that the straight kid was cuter, and voted for him.

With the exception of Jordin Sparks, every American Idol winner has been from the South or at least had a Southern accent. That's why Kris won.

completely agree.. adam was not only the best this season, but one of the best idol contestants EVER!!

although i guess maybe i was the only one that noticed they chose coldplay's 'viva la vida' as the music under adam's clip 'montage' - it was kinda subtle, but as soon as i heard that song begin i got the sinking feeling right then & there that it was the end of the road for adam, so i at least had the chance to brace myself for the heartache before they made the final announcement..
