American Idol: Season 10

I didn't agree with the judges using the save on Casey. He showed all kinds of promises during the audition rounds but when it came time to perform live, he growls every single song. So when his name was mentioned to be in the bottom 3 I seriously wasn't surprised. I honestly didn't know why the judges praised his performance of Nirvana's Smells like Teen Spirit. To me it sounded as bad as Danny Gokey's screechy Sing with Me. In fact, worse.

Then when he was saved, he swung 180 degrees and was so darn boring until these intense parts where he- as usual- growled again. People will vote for him for the novelty of the 'save' but I definitely do not see him as the winner for this season.

Naima. I rooted for her for her story and her passion when she sings. But who sings Raggae on American Idol and not expected to be eliminated. Seriously?

Paul. When the 4 guys stood in a single line performing. My eyes turned to him immediately. But that means only one thing- he belongs in a band. When it comes time to really perform one on one on a stage live, it's a little painful to watch. Having said that, I think he survived based on his talents and his cheeky charisma, and those people at VFTW are claiming victory for him not being eliminated. How delusional are those people?

Thia had the potential to be big, but not with ballads. I would have thought the Asian community would have gone all out for her though. Guess that didn't happen.

With Jacob it's like Heidi Klum says. One minute you're In, the next you're Aus.

Haley- needs to go 2 weeks ago.

Scotty- needs to go 3 weeks ago.

Stefano- can stay as long as he wants. So long he leaks more shirtless pictures online, like Tim.

James... I'm still undecided over him. I'd love to see him strip down some songs and do something unexpectable, like a ballad. Mix it up, make it interesting, like David Cook. These says his songs are so huge it's hard to enjoy them really.

At this rate I see the final showdown between Lauren and Pia. I actually don't understand the animosity towards Lauren. She's 16, come on, at 16 years old I acted that way too. And you can't deny the quality of her voice, which is timeless. And this week's performance to me was her best.

Pia's got an amazing voice and I agree in Randy comparing her to Mariah and Celine. The problem I have is her bland bland bland personality. Once she finished performing, it's like all she does is smile at the camera whispering thank you, thank you, thank you, like she's on a beauty pageant. It's all she does. And I don't remember a single thing about her from any of her clips/snippets.

We'll see how it goes, but my predictions are- Lauren wins the whole thing and Pia comes in as a close second.

Jennifer is turning out to be quite a good judge. I think her comments have been dead on most of the time. And I still love Tyler but I think the show producers stifled him too much, so much so that all he comments is-good. I loved that. Good. I've got no problems with that. Good.

And noticed how there's practically no impact when Randy said, "best performance of the night", than say if Simon said it? Lol. Losing Simon hurt American Idol a lot, in my opinion.

And What the hell with 55,000 votes cast during this week. It's definitely unfair to do this comparison since they added the online votes this year. These people must think we're stoopid.

I wouldn't even come close to saying that Jennifer is turning out to be quite a good judge. She's FAR from dead on, as are they all.

You need only look at last week's Casey praise-a-thon.

Or Jennifer's praising of Karen's first bilingual performance in the top 13. It was jarring. Every language switch interrupted the flow of the song in a terrible way. But Jennifer praised her despite that.

Karen was praised often for the things she did wrong. Therefore she never improved much because she didn't know she was messing up, or so it would appear.

Or, let's be even more obvious: Robbie Rosen. He sang a painful version of "Angel" and Jennifer actually thought his version was better than the original. I seriously thought we'd wake up to the story of Jennifer Lopez being murdered in her sleep.

And Randy name drops so much that he should consider himself lucky celebrities haven't come after him. He seriously has slandered some names by comparing them to these contestants.

And Steve Tyler NEVER manages a negative criticism. Not even on Naima, whom even I admitted messed up with that last performance.

Casey will continue being awful because they saved him for no good reason and then praised him so they didn't look foolish when he was bad again.

This judging panel needs:

A: A reality check

or

B: The producers to stop telling them what to say

Like that guy the contestants work with every week. He's the example of some of the worst people in the music industry: He lies to those contestants to get them doing what HE wants them to do, to a degree. If they aren't doing we'll, he'll act like they are.

This whole messed up cycle is worse than ever this season. It wasn't apparent at the start, but it sure is now.

J-Lo isn't a great judge, but she's better than the other two. Context, you know?

It's like saying The Goblet of Fire is the best thing JK Rowling has ever written...and still giving it a terrible review.

What the fuck is happening? First Paul McDonald impressed me last week and now Casey Abrams was -- God, I can't believe I'm actually saying this -- really really good! Easily his best performance since auditions. Of course the judges couldn't leave well enough alone and had to overrate him like they always do ("revolutionary!" um...no it's not Randy, you dolt) but that's not Casey's fault. He was good this week. Damn.

Ah well, there's always Lauren Alaina to hate on. Heh, she was totally confused for a minute when will.i.am made that "Country + Soul = Control" joke.

(This post is dedicated to slipintothefog)

I can't believe you're saying that either.

Good perhaps, but no "really really" necessary, or even warranted.

He looked, and sounded, like he was in pain.

Those revolutionary comments about the stand up bass pissed me off.

I'm taking this moment to enjoy Sgt Pepper's praise for my man while it lasts. :D

Even though I'm watching Survivor right now instead of Idol...

Yeah, I should have stuck with one "really." The second one always tips it.

I think you'll enjoy it when you watch it later. ;)

He's definitely safe for another week. Which means when it's his turn tomorrow, I'll just giggle over how Ryan uses the same words on Results Night as he likely does for foreplay: "Dim the lights. Here we go. Randy likes you upright."

It makes me giggle how this show is hoping and praying that Pia wins. Not until the day that she whips out a penis to entice the female voters.

EDIT: Lawd Jesus, I think Jennifer needs to go change her panties during the commercial break after that Stefano performance.

Holy LOL at the VFTW pick getting the pimp spot.

My bottom three would have to be Stefano, Scotty and Jacob...with hopes that Jacob will go.

Stefano wasn't bad...but was boring...I could have sworn he's already sang that song.

Scotty is just one note...he's good...but his performance annoys me with being all sideways and such...lol

My top would be Hailey, Pia, Casey and Paul

They need another judge next season. This love-fest is annoying.

Agreed. I'm quite sick of it.

All they do is praise how amazing everyone is, despite how false the praise is.

It's gotten so bad, it's become self-parodic. Last week was the best example when Steven Tyler told Jacob Lusk, "The first half of your performance was great and the second half..." and then his balls retracted right back up and he lamely finished with, "...was equal for me."

Pathetic.

Agreed. I feel like the judges aren't even needed this season because all they do really is find different ways to praise the contestants and if they do not do a good job all they really say is "it was kind of boring to me" instead of giving some real constructive criticism for the contestants to use to get better. It's really annoying.

and LOL at J-Lo after Stefano's performance, she probably wet herself from his performance

^^ J-Lo has actually offered constructive criticism from time to time. Steven is completely worthless, and Randy has always been completely worthless.

My little Steffy might be gone. I didnt have much hopes when I heard the theme. I hate that song he sang. But it was a safe choice considering theme. But he definitely didnt deserve that nonsensical bullshit Randy said.

Lauren bugged as usual. But I really cant stand Scotty. I found his performance awkward and uncomfortable to watch.

Yeah you're right of the 3 she is the only one that does it time to time but the other two never do. Kinda sad when I think about how the judging panel in the past offered plently of constructive citicism for the contestants

To be fair though, that was pretty much all Simon. LOL. He was the only one who offered real criticism. Once we lost him, we lost the show. J-Lo is our only hope now.

Paula surprisingly had taste but didn't know how to give constructive criticism. Kara tried to give constructive criticism but didn't have any real taste. Ellen was basically Steven Tyler with better make-up. And Randy could never find his own ass with both hands, not even if you spotted him a cheek.

In fact, in terms of overall criticism/usefulness, I'd rank the judges as so:

1. Simon Cowell
2. J-Lo
3. A monkey
4. Paula
5. Kara
6. A really stupid monkey
7. Randy
8. Steven & Ellen

Jacob has always annoyed me, but tonight he moved into the despised category. I guess he's too virtuous for rock'n'roll. And then his telling America that if it doesn't vote for him, it's morally reprobate with no conscience....AAAARRRGGH. And then he goes and does a duet. Jacob, please go.
