American Idol: Season 10

James sings "Closer to the Edge" and...he could have done so much better. He messed up lyrics 3 times by my count and winded himself with a completely unnecessary scream.

It is such a shame, I was expecting better when they told us the songs.

And as usual, the judges do him no favors by acting like he was perfect.

Jacob is absolutely terrible. He looks like he is having some sort of spasm, bouncing and flinging his arms about robotically, and the singing is awful even for him.

Jennifer thinks his voice is one of the best ever on the Idol stage and he is a great performer.

Randy actually grows a pair and criticizes him! I'm in shock! Jennifer does her best to undermine him, much less shocking.

Steve sits in the middle, more towards Randy.

This is amazing...criticism in American Idol this season!

Jacob sounded HORRID tonight. Wow. I'm glad Randy attempted some criticism but still none of them pointed out that he just sounded bad. God I hope he goes tomorrow night.

And here's Fat Lauren with another soulless performance.

Lauren knows what works for her and took the chance to show people why she's often likened to a cross of Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson.

SHE is in it to win it. She knows how to play to her strengths and to her fanbase.

Scotty performs with more personality than I ever remember seeing from him.

He is dancing, moving around, and actually looking like he is enjoying himself. He really owns the stage.

That might be the best performance I've seen him do.

I felt that Haley started rough and did well by the end.

However, I have to agree with Jennifer now that choosing an unreleased Lady Gaga track didn't really work in her favor. I thought it might, but I really feel it didn't.

She is getting criticized as well, more harshly than Jacob. I can't help but wonder if they want to throw her under the bus and try to keep Jacob.

On the one hand, I think they want Haley gone so bad that Jimmy gave her HORRIBLE advice and tricked her into doing an unknown song just to sink her chances.

On the other hand...she has the pimp spot. If she pulls it out with her next performance (and I feverishly hope she does) we could actually be looking at an equal number of guys and girls for the first time this season since Top 12.

James' second performance is one of the most emotionally attached performances any of these singers have given. He also does not do one of his loud screams.

Far more than the false attachment Jacob has tried to inject before.

He breaks down in rehearsal and is crying a little by the end.

I agree with Randy that this is a front-runner performance.

Jacob...what the hell was that?

Starts off like he's trying to sing in the same key as Sheryl Crow did for him...and it goes completely all over the place from there.

To borrow and modify from a Jeff Dunham act:

-Where is Jacob's singing?

-Over there, over there, and up there.

And it was all awful.

That was horrid. Haley will REALLY have to screw up to be the one to go after that. Even if the judges babble like idiots again.

Which, of course, they do.

I suppose he did VFTW proud - a terrible performance that doesn't even pretend to be entertaining in any way.

What the hell is wrong with Randy? Not only was Jacob terrible, but highest note EVER on that stage? What??? Somewhere Adam Lambert just went, "Bitch please."

I'd rather see encores of that trainwreck hilarious performance from Paul and his harem than watch any of these people (except Haley) at this point.

Oh, and fuck off Lauren.

Look at Lauren straining to have a moment. And failing.

They really shouldn't have Lauren and Scotty back-to-back. It's Aural Valium. Which means, skip the finale unless you have trouble sleeping, folks.

Lauren sings a difficult song and it only sort-of pays off. It will keep here here, there is no doubt of that.

Scotty does better, also securing his spot next week.

I seriously, seriously, seriously doubt both of them will be in the finale. I'd bank on Scotty/James since Scotty splits votes with Lauren while also taking precedence over her.

They're the frontrunners, but yes James is the best option to split up Uncle Nigel's most wanted finale. And as much as he annoys me from time to time, at least he's not boring. I hope he does it and I hope he wins just to fuck with Uncle Nigel.

Yeah, after this even the judges' moronic babbling shouldn't be able to condemn Haley over Jacob.

FUCK YEAH Haley! God bless Sheryl Crow for giving her that a cappella intro advice! Haley is singing her ass off and singing for her life right now! Wow. OMG standing O from the judges!

Randy: "Best performance of the night goes to Haley!"

I'm floored. Not that she's that good, but that these fuckers actually recognized it.

Now, when Jacob goes tomorrow Haley needs to be careful. She's got a history of inconsistency.
