Re: American Idol is loosing its appeal.

I actually liked Taylor Hicks. I thought he was sexy and had an appeal that no other Idol contestant ever had. But I am not watching this season, it went downhill the past two seasons for me. I chose to watch PBS instead.

Re: American Idol is loosing its appeal.

What really matters is the fact that it's "loosing" bad spellers upon us.](*,)

Re: American Idol is loosing its appeal.

I never really watch the beginning that much and if I do its just for the laughs.

Re: American Idol is loosing its appeal.

As far as the show losing its appeal, well the ratings will be the determinant of that. But yeah, last night's episode was pretty boring. But I never like watching the auditions anyway--it's so boring. I don't wanna see 2 hours of bad singers. I watch the show to see GOOD people.

And as for the original poster saying the show hasn't found any good singers...I'm not sure how far back you watched American Idol but if you saw Kelly Clarkson's season, you KNOW that girl can sing the HELL out of a Celine song, an Aretha song, Mariah song, etc. So that puzzles me.

And yeah, someone already mentioned Jennifer Hudson.

Re: American Idol is loosing its appeal.

Am I the only one who thinks Paula had some vodka in her Coca Cola cup? And I'm not saying this because of her recent interviews, I'm saying this because her whole demeaner seems to have changed. She used to be nice (or at least cordial) to everyone, even the bad singers. Now she's laughing and making fun of them, or just plain looks zoned out of it!

I bet she'll be the real story this season!

Re: American Idol is loosing its appeal.

uhh well it was definitely formulaic....but thats what attracts people... i enjoy watching the trainwrecks more than the better singers... teh better singers are for the later rounds.
I felt bad for the one cute kid who made it through.. could the zit on his nose be any larger ! you would think some chick would have thrown him some coverup...

Re: American Idol is loosing its appeal.

Well, as far as losing its appeal goes, its not because the show last night set another new ratings record. It will be interesting to see how many people tune in again tonight. The show was pretty blah last night and the people that they sent through were not very impressive in my opinion. I used to love watching the auditions because of the horrible people, but right now I'm kinda just wanting it to get into the competition.

Oh yeah, and that young kid who sang California Dreamin was so depressing. He was good and he made it through, but his parents didn't come and when he called his mom he started bawling and sobbed "She's proud of me!" If that wasn't staged, that kid is desperately seeking approval.

Re: American Idol is loosing its appeal.

Taylor's album flopped. Rofl.

Re: American Idol is loosing its appeal.

I really hope Katharine McPhee's album goes good....I was rooting for her and am a big fan. I've liked what I've heard so far. And Daughtry is kicking ass.

Re: American Idol is loosing its appeal.

Apparently its appeal is not waning. It got its best ratings ever (for the season premier) last night.

Re: American Idol is loosing its appeal.

^One other show got better ratings--the Ruben/Clay finale.

That's why I specified that it was among the season premiers. The finales are basically in a realm of their own when it comes to ratings.

Oh sorry, lol, reading entirely too fast

Re: American Idol is loosing its appeal.

I think they're both very good singers. They've just made VERY BAD music.

Re: American Idol is loosing its appeal.

Well I may have been out in left field not seeing the past seasons, but I have been riveted by these past couple days. What a cast of characters! Guess it's not old to me yet.....but can get that way soon I suspect.....;)

My friend and I were eating dinner at a little local restaurant/bar last night. The bar was playing the show because it sometimes has a karaoke crowd. There were all kinds of people watching and laughing at how bad some of the singers. When this kid told his story about how his parents had never supported his music, people were laughing at the huge zit/spot on his nose. When he sang, the general crowd opinion seemed to be that he was pretty good.

When he called his mom and she said she was proud on the phone, and the kid started crying and sat down in the floor, the bar got quieter. Someone said "wow" respectfully, and a number of people got teary-eyed. You could hear pockets of people saying things like "I'm glad the little guy got through."

While a lot of people like to watch the show for the bad auditions or to see people put in their place, this, to me, is what this show is really about. Seeing people who have dreams and talent trying their best to live those dreams, and sometimes lifting everyone who's watching along with them--that's what I like about the show.

Re: Who was the worst person on Americal Idol in Seattle?

that was probably some of the worst American Idol auditions I have seen. Are these people fucking real?? Any chance that AI pays these guys to come in just for ratings. Cuz they hardly ever show the good ones.

Re: American Idol is loosing its appeal.

I think now even the jury seem bored, annoyed, and tired. Especially Paula.

The best recipe to get picked to see the jury without having good voice would be to either sing terribly or have interesting or weird life story.

And what you see on this show has been molded to create certain emotions with camera angle, and editing.
