American Idol (Season 9) [merged]

I hope the judges comments dont hurt the high note girl. I thought she was incredible tonight. Her vocals were so controlled and she is in total command of her vocal instrument. When she hits those powerhouse notes i almost get an orgasm.

I am glad she stood up for herself and told Simon where to shove it because his comments were not based in reality.

how about Seacrest's Brian Dunkelman jab.....she be feisty tonight

That was pretty good, it took the audience a little while to figure out who he meant. They should have known that never would happen, unless he suddenly had a change of heart about the whole show

And I respect your right to defend Tim because you think he's hot.

Meh, that's part of it. But not all of it. Tim's entertaining to me and tonight he actually gave the best performance. Meanwhile Andrew was boring again...like BOOOORRRRING. Just like he has been every single week since the competition started. The best part of the night was when Adam outright said to him, "That was boring." That was brutally honest, and funny.

I can get into people on this show for entertainment value, or for talent, and Andrew offers neither. Tim at least has entertainment value and (as he proved tonight) a vestige of talent. Is he the most talented person there? Heck no. I don't even think he should make a record.

But I'd rather lose Andrew, Katie and Aaron before I lose Tim. Those three are completely forgettable.

I'm seeing some promise out of Katie....don't know if she should go much farther but I'd lose Aaron and Andrew, maybe Tim as well before her.Tim is what he is....tonight was probably as good as it gets, and while he is plucky, entertaining and damn sexy to look at he isn't flexible enough to show much more depth.

Casey peaked a couple weeks back but I agree he's not showing anything really different. His guitar playing has won him more raves than how he is presenting himself as a vocalist.I think Kara might be right,he can do a lot more but plays it safe.

Mike was good tonight...vocally you really can't nail him.A safe song choice but he delivered.I understand how his posings, his cocky demeanor can turn you guys off but I think a lot of it is playfullness rather than serious uptight macho display.Again, his calculatiion regarding his daughter's birth, and competing rather than being at his wife's side....maybe she just did encourage him to follow his dreams. He is smooth, with power and classy vocally in the best R&B tradition, much more authentic and likeable than Danny Gokey who he is linked with. Can't go against him, certainly based on tonight's performance.

Didn't see Siobhan's performance...hearing she was great but somehow the judges weren't giving her any love tonight...what's with the judges here? Are they trying to sabotage her?

What I liked from Adam Lambert was his willingness to be honest and not just pump up everyone....he wasn't rude or snide but wasn't afraid to make strong constructive criticism where he thought warranted.

Tim was by far the best last night.

Before you go crazy - think about the performances last night - not just your personal likes and dislikes of the people.

There were some great performances, and the best one started the show. Crystal is as good as it gets.

While Tim was good, and maybe it was his best, but for me personally, I think he sings the same every week. He has not gone off tracks with anything other than slow songs. I liked his performance but wouldn't jump on it as being anywhere near the best. Aaron has a much stronger voice and dares to be more original than Tim, but Aaron is just awkward to me.

I thought Katie rocked big time as did Siohban. Casey did his usual schtick but his usual is very good.

Andrew should be gone. He is weakest right now.

It was great seeing Adam Lambert giving advice and calmly telling them how they best could serve up the songs and I think he brought a life to the show that has rarely been there this season.

BTW I love Ellen as a judge. I think she gives a much needed fun stroke to the show. I think Simon has been very fair and sometimes harsh, but a little less so than in previous years. Kara just confuses the kids with what she thinks they should be. Randy is fair in his judgements.

I personally thought Siobhan could have done better. Wasn't she told to keep it more up tempo and yet slowed it down anyway?

As for Mike, I was bored out of my mind and getting kinda sleepy.

Crystal, good as always, no point in talking about her anymore, moving on.

Andrew, bad as always, no point in talking about him anymore, moving on.

Katie, what did she do? Without leaving my chair or changinng the channel I must have missed her because I have no memory of what she did.

Tim, surprisingly good and one of the best of the night.

Aaron, didn't at all get what Adam was telling him and it showed.

It just took me 5 minutes to remember Lee, and after remembering his performance I know why. Not memorable or even something I want to remember.

Casey, given the last slot in hopes he would be memorable. He wasn't.

I watched just because I thought it would be fun seeing Lambert mentor them...it wasn't. Those who didn't listen, it showed. Those who did, not much memorable. Guess I'll stick to youtube clips and recaps from now on. I thought the show was never going to end.

I wonder, are they curious as to why they lost the ratings race to DWTS for the first time?

I can see loving Ellen, but as a judge? She may bring a fun stroke but she's got no business being a judge.

Ick. Dial Idol is showing that Big Mike received more votes than anyone else last night. Clearly his elimination last week scared his fans into voting like crazy bastards this week. And they'll continue to vote that way until the very end.

He should've gone home last week. Ugh.

Unfortunately that stupid save has kept him in the competition and he showed this week he didn't deserve it or even care.

You guys are dead wrong on Mike....he was tremendous singing for the save last week.He may not have had the most exciting performance last night but it was a damn good one.You don't like him personally...fine.But clean out the damn ear wax.

He does have a very good voice. Problem is every song he sings sounds like "Ol Man River"

He sounds like a soul singer, and a very good one at that.
He sounds nothing like Paul Robeson,a bass singer who popularized that song.A bass sings much lower, much deeper.
But it appears you generalize all those black singers sound the same.

Sausy my friend, you need to remember that these things are subjective. I know it's hard to understand sometimes -- just like I'll never understand how anyone could like the movie Crash -- but the sobering truth is: there will always be someone who likes something you hate, and someone who hates something you like.

That said, I completely agree with you that Mike did an awesome job singing for his life. I can't stand his personality, but he does have a good voice, and he's the only contestant whose performance on one of those Elimination shows actually moved me. Also, I thought he wasn't bad the week he got "eliminated" (in fact he didn't deserve to go that week) and I thought he was very good last night. His performance of that India Arie song a few weeks back was also one of the highlights of the season for me.

But, it's also true that he doesn't have a hell of a lot of range, and whether you like it or not, personality does count on this show, and he has an absolutely shitty one. Totally entitled, totally off-putting. It's a real shame too, because he's a better singer than Danny Gokey but damn if he doesn't act as obnoxiously as that guy. I fully expect Mike to be gone in two or three weeks (which is something of a surprise because early on I thought he was a guaranteed Top 3 and maybe even Top 2 placer, just based on the hard push he was getting from the judges and production). He may still be able to pull off a Finale run, but if he doesn't, you can rest assured it will be the result of an awful personality, and not the result of a paucity of talent.

As for the rest of the night? SO glad Tim survived the double eviction and even gladder that the Robot and the Bore got the boot. Now if they can just lose Archuleta 2.0 next week, this competition can really begin.

Alicia Keys next week. A mentor that can actually sing.

Miracle.

I think Adam is a terrific singer but yeah, I'm happy about Alicia Keys. She's one of those artists whose shown amazing growth and resilience. "Fallin" is a modern pop classic (and you knew it was the first time you heard it), and As I Am was a pretty awesome album, fulfilling the promise of her debut.

Blacksyringe, I love that you and I seem to be posting more in this thread since American Idol is actually giving us more enjoyable drama than The Russell Show. LOL.

Jeez. What another craptastic night. Never have I disliked most everyone. I have been fast forwarding through the intro pieces for everyone, they all irriatate me.

Casey James - Alright, someone need to teach this guy how to look better while singing. I think that it is kind of distracting he is singing with a big ass smile every single time, even if it is a serious song. It just looks so fake.

Lee - It was alright, but wouldn't listen to this song on the radio.

Tim Urban - Crap

Aaron Kelly - Crap. And dude it is time to mix it up a bit. You are doing the same type of song every week.

Siobhan - Holy crap. So weird.

Michael Lynche - Worst crap. I thought this was the worst performance of the night

Michael was pretty awful last night. At least if he goes this week, it won't be undeserved.

Crystal was great last night(though come on AI...that was obvi the rehearsal footage on the recap since ya know...she wasn't crying at the end of it)

Siobhan I thought was great as well(though I do think in her lower register she gets a bit warbley) And I love her little FU judges monologues at the end of the performances...lol

everyone else was BLAAAAHHHHHHH
