American Idol (Season 9) [merged]

^^ Ugh! I was hoping her absolute blowout of Lee would result in an upset (isn't it sad that Crystal became the underdog?) but yeah, if she's well behind on Dial Idol, she's probably losing.

And it will be the worst result of a truly exceptional singer -- one far above the rest of the competition -- losing the big prize since Melinda Doolittle was booted at Top 3.

I'm going to be sad when Crystal loses what she certainly deserves to win. Dialidol has her well behind Lee and I believe them. Stupid teenage girls.
It's not just teen girls. Plenty of dopey gay guys think Lee is so hot too. The producers obviously want him to win as well. They kinda hooked him up with songs that more people know. Crystal kicked his ass tonight even though her songs were a bit more obscure and slower.

Black Velvet and Me & Bobby McGee are obscure? Not to mention Clarkson performed Up to the Mountatin on Idol Gives back and sent it charting on Billboard almost overnight. The idol producers are guilty of many a thing but they didn't really sandbag either of these contestants. But unless a cute boy is as bad and annoying as Beat-Box Blake (who wasn't that cute...nor is Lee really) they're almost promised a win because they don't cap the votes per phone lines. And to some extent I think tha'ts startign to annoy the producers who in addition to having to deal with Tim had their entire 'season of the women' narrative shattered to pieces when Lily was sent home and Katie sucked.

I know them but they are more obscure than Lee's songs. None of hers are songs you'd here on top 40 radio.

Crystal deserves the win. Lee didnt deliver well on all of his 3 songs actually...

If I were only into looks I'd go for Lee... he's my vote for the hottest guy on the show this season...

But Crystal sang her ass off! She wants it and she deserves it...

I agree... stupid teenage girls...

There's no denying that "Beautiful Day" and "Everybody Hurts" are more mainstream songs than anything Crystal sang last night. That said, Lee sucked balls on ALL three of his performances and when he wins tonight, it's only going to reveal how broken this show is.

Lee needs it, Crystal doesn't.

Lee needs it, Crystal doesn't.

Winning means nothing. They all get contracts. Most the winners fade into obscurity regardless. Anyone seen Taylor Hicks or Ruben Studdard anytime recently? Niether of them 'need' it but Crystal most certainly deserves it.

I'm sorry I didn't realize this was Idol Gives Back all season long. I don't give a rat's ass who "needs" it (and that determination is subjective, partly because of the reasons falconfan cites above) -- I only care about who deserves to win, and Crystal was SO MUCH BETTER than Lee last night -- and performed at a level that was generally higher all season than any of the other contestants -- that she should win.

But she won't. And that sucks.

Question for longtime Idol fans with good memories: has there ever been a time when the general consensus (including the judges) was that one contestant "won" all three rounds of the finale? And if so, has that person ever gone on to lose the show? I'm not asking for your personal (and possibly recalcitrant) opinion on the final rounds, only an evaluation of a general consensus/judges' opinions.

Also for what it's worth, Dial Idol predicted Adam Lambert to win last year. So there may still be vestigial hope.

^ Hmmm, I don't think so. Further evidence this show has jumped the shark...then again no one worthwhile has come out of this show since season four. Everyone after that has been obscure. Fuck, it would have been better if Tim Urban beat out Lee...

Yeah I have to admit I prefer Tim Urban's best performance (Elvis week) to all of Lee's generally forgettable performances.

Ryan says the vote deferential between Crystal and Lee was only 2% of the total vote, which is SUPER close, and very different from the total Dial Idol posted (where Lee seemed to beat Crystal by a lot). This doesn't mean Lee isn't still the winner, but I'm holding on to any hope I can find; at the very least, it means Dial Idol's prediction isn't flawless this year.

I don't think Dial Idol has ever been flawless, nor does it claim to be. It is, however, typically accurate, though not usually by pinpointing who will go home, but giving a range.

Personally, yeah, I'd like to see the most talented person of the season win. However, I don't think it really matters in what is pretty much cemented as the worst Idol season yet. "Yet" because it was actually renewed.

Meh, I'm not bothering with the absurdly long 2 hour finale. I'll check in the last 5 minutes to see which of the undeserving was deemed most deserving.
