it was nice seeing all the winners(minus David Cook) and all of the cast of "I Was an American Idol Finalist" on stage together
and even though I HATED Janet's new hair....she was amazing!
and Crystal and Alanis' performance was awkward....way to much walking....LOL
Kris Allen looked absolutely adorable as usually
Yep,seeing Paula Abdul back and the Idol All-Stars on stage saluting Simon Cowell was the definitive highlight for me.Janet was never a vocal powerhouse but she gave a very good performance....I'm with you on not liking the hair so much though.Too many pop and rock geezers,c'mon now....Alice Cooper?Hall and Oates?Michael McDonald?Joe Cocker? The judges talk about contestants needing to sound current and fresh, and not old fashioned and irrelevant yet the bulk of the guests have long past their freshness expiration code date?
Alanis was okay, think Crystal was blowing her away on "Ya Oughta Know" and maybe it was kind of awkward at least for her.
Always love Carrie Underwood's performances, and she was really good tonight.Kris Allen was indeed hot, even got excited seeing seasons past hotties like Chris Richardson and Ace Young in the group of Idol All Stars as well.
Still, not as much into the show as past years.Nothing against Lee,who isn't bad,and who really did well knocking out Casey James last week by actually bothering to try to get to the Finals but he paled next to Crystal last night, and it wasn't even defensibly close. There are a lot of complaints against the quality of the competition this year but EVERY year there are rip jobs over how many lousy contestants made it through.I do think though last year you had an Alison Iraheta who was coming on strong in the late stages of the competition, along with touted favorite Adam Lambert and eventual winner Kris Allen.Kept things interesting at the end,and this year there was no such dark horse as Casey bombed big time and Michael Lynche's abrasive, over the top personality was such a turnoff for many viewers, certainly well represented here.Though I stand on belief vocal quality wise,he deserved as much buzz as any of the others as a potential winner...(my own personal favorite was Crystal, btw)if one comes off as insufferable like Mike did,he was going to rate negatively and not get as far as the Finals.
So no Simon and a fan base bored with Idol as Simon was this past year spells potential real trouble for Idol. They've got to reinvent themselves in a fresher and more appealing way,get the best contestants, pare the judges back down to three and really score with the Simon replacement or the slow deterioration of Idol's standing will become a fast fade as Simon's new show starts to get the publicity and momentum.
