American Idol (Season 9) [merged]

Re: American Idol (Season 9)

I hate Haeley Vaughn's singing and don't think she should even be in the top 24...

The only person I like is Aaron Kelly. Really like his voice, and he seems very humble :).

Re: American Idol (Season 9)

At the end of the day I guess Casey did best but I still don't like him.

I still like Todrick the worst I can't believe he did that to "Since You've Been Gone." He like completely removed the melody and just kind of spoke/sang it.
I hate Todrick the most. He's so annoying an cocky. I cant wait till his ass goes home. I hate Casey's hair and soul patch. And Kara's fangirling over him. He's not even that hot. HATE Hate Hate. I'm full of Hate. :grrr:

She's the worst girl. They keep wanting her to be the black Taylor Swift. Not gonna happen. Plus Taylor is annoying as it is. Her shitty weave is distracting and that lisp.

Re: American Idol (Season 9)

Wow. What a disappointing start. Almost everyone picked horrible songs and arrangements. I would usually have a few favorites by now, but I don't. I thought that Casey James and Aaron Kelly were the best of last night.

Re: American Idol (Season 9)

The problem is that they encourage them to fuck songs up. They tell them to 'be creative' and to do those songs 'their own way.' I don't want to hear songs their way. Their way has a tendency to suck majorly. You didn't chose these people based on their ability to rearrange songs so what the hell makes you assume they can do it?

Casey is not hot and taking off his shirt contributed nothing. There have been a lot of really hot guys in Idol history and Casey doesn't come close to it. I don't know what is up with the cougar queen but she needs to take it down a few notches.

Re: American Idol (Season 9)

"I didn't like that song choice for you." A general statement used on just about every guy and girl in the first shows. And the arrangements - we do know they have coaches that help them out. They have a singing coach and a music coach and yet no one can tell them "This is the wrong song for you."

Simon has grown more snotty and arrogant knowing this is his last run through with this show. Ellen is fine but stumble-bumps her critiques too much.

Of the girls I like the yellow toothed girl (kinda Janis Joplinesque) - can't remember her name.

Of the guys I like Lee and Casey. I think Casey has a natural charm about him.

Not madly in love with anyone thus far.

I fear those that are left are going to go nuts trying to please the judges with song choices that uaually turn out horribly.

Over all this was a really, really, really bad start for AI.

Re: American Idol (Season 9)

I'm not sure who should go home because no one stood out to me. For me this is turning out to be one to the worst seasons yet. Perhaps that's by design since this will likely be the last season for AI as it's audience will likely move to the new X Factor show. I know I will not be watching any show that doesn't have Simon in it!! As for ELLEN love her on her show but on AI not so much!! I miss PAULA!!

Re: American Idol (Season 9)

I watched the top 12 for both guys and girls perform. The guys did way better than the girls. No one is standing out for me yet.

Simon vs. Ellen - They Don't Idolize Each Other

0224_simon_ellen_03.jpg

Simon Cowell and Ellen DeGeneres flat out don't get along, and the tension is building ... this according to multiple "American Idol" sources.

Our insiders say Simon and Ellen aren't even trying to hide it. Ellen can't stand what she believes is Simon's cruelty toward contestants. And, we're told, Simon actually enjoys pissing Ellen off with his blistering critiques.

People working on the show last night tell TMZ ... it was apparent on and off camera ... Simon's tolerance level for the contestants was at an all-time low, and he knew it was making Ellen uncomfortable but clearly didn't care. As one insider put it, "He was intentionally pushing her buttons."

It all started badly when Simon showed up late for Ellen's first week of "A.I." taping and made her wait around. Producers separated the two -- who began the season sitting side-by-side -- but the tension has gotten worse.

But business is business. "A.I." is beating the Olympics, and ratings for Ellen's show skyrocketed last week. In Hollywood, contempt has its upside.

Yeah. I don't know if you meant your "yet no one can tell them 'This is the wrong song for you'" as a statement of fact or more a "What's up with that?" rhetorical question about why someone isn't doing that, but the vocal coaches (Debra Byrd) and Dorian Holley, primarily - look for Holley, too, in Michael Jackson's "This Is It") have a mandate to work with the performer to get the best performance they can out of the song choice but Byrd has commented it isn't her/their place to suggest it's the wrong song or influence the decision on song pick. In a post-win interview I saw with her once, she reflected back about how she did think X song was wrong but couldn't say anything at the time. Really, as coaches (and, the musical director in that musical director role) it's their job to do the best they can with what the pick is.

Some contestants have also commented their first or second choices for songs are unclearable for TV/cover rights, so have to resort to others. On "theme" nights with a "Music of [whatever given artist]" especially, this is tough if their first choices aren't available or the other "good ones" in the pool are taken by other contestants.

But I think song choice and all sorts of other performance decisions are all part of the evolution they go through as performers on the show. It's a learning curve, and it's cool to see them take some missteps too, because they're figuring it all out!

Man, that photo of Simon caught on-the-fly is creepy looking! He looks like he's just bounded off a horror movie set. :)

Re: American Idol (Season 9)

I was surprised but I"m generally disaffected. They all suck so I don't care which left.

Re: American Idol (Season 9)

Joe Munoz was robbed. he was one of the best guys last night. Granted there was slim pickings but still. he should not be gone. He's only gone because he has no storyline.

Re: American Idol (Season 9)

I didn't really think that Janelle deserved to go home over Lacey or Haeley

and poor Joe....he reminded me of Jorge from last season...and they went home the same time too...haha...though Joe could definitely sing better then Jorge they both still had that English isn't my first language phrasing to their singing...which I think throws a lot of people

Re: American Idol (Season 9)

TIM would get my vote (if I voted). But anyone could have gone home last night there was no real stand-outs!! I will give it another week and it gets no better I'm done with AI. Looking forward to X-Factor!! I might even try out!!

Re: American Idol (Season 9)

God Tim Turban is SO HOT. Who knew that body was hiding under those clothes??

Re: American Idol (Season 9)

Well,Alan Ritchson looked great a few seasons back, trying to suck up to Paula Abdul...and has gotten modeling and acting assignments despite a less than stellar effort at proving himself a singer. If Tim continues to show he doesn't have it vocally he looks too good not to try his hand at modeling/acting.

This group has to step it up though, because they largely don't seem to have the desire to grab it and show they can perform(not vocal pyrotechnics, but bring out the essence of a song in a way that makes it their own.In other words, many people can carry notes or sing decently enough...few really know how to bring it every time to their audience. To have a star quality that makes their shows and performances memorable,a real event.
