Re: R.I.P Amy Winehouse Memorial thread

That's the thing about addicts. At some point, all you can do is sit by your phone and wait for the call to come.
You can't help someone who doesn't want to be helped, regardless of their reasons.

Good Riddance...
**rant mode on**
you know, there's an underground movement here on JUB to denigrate those of us that felt a personal connection with Amy's music and are taking her passing hard. I don't know whether these are battle hardened old queens that had to fight the old school homophobia of the 60s/70s or whether they are these young foos just tryna kiss some ass to climb the JUB ladder at the expense of other's emotions, but I wish they'd fuck off my business! That's right, put me on ignore y'ol'farts!! Tired of 'splainin' my jokes to y'ass anyways! Get a sense of humor or you're gonna dry up like an old pussy!

Re: R.I.P Amy Winehouse Memorial thread

Guess she should've gone to rehab after all...

Re: Twitter is exploding with Amy Winehouse Death!

Awww man. Awww. She was talented. I love her Back To Black album. I listen to Just Friends, all. the. time.

She was very talented.... too bad she had to end her talent so soon and abruptly. I'll still listen to that album as well.

Re: R.I.P Amy Winehouse Memorial thread

Music Week today published an article and Amy Winehouse's sales profile is mentioned.

A notable absentee from the list is Back To Black, the second album by Amy Winehouse, who died tragically on Saturday at the age of 27.

For OCC purposes, the album’s sales are split between the original (2,262,399) and deluxe double disc version (824,764), with a further 5,035 sales from the Back To Black/Frank double disc set.

Overall sales of 3,092,198 would place the album second on the list above. Inevitably, Winehouse’s death will result in a huge surge in sales of Back To Black and her entire catalogue a week hence but occurred too late on Saturday to make much of an impression on the current lists:

The original Back To Black album re-enters the chart at number 59 (2,446 sales, up 299.00%) and the deluxe edition re-enters at number 163 (843 sales, up 848.70%). On the singles chart, Back To Black re-emerges at number 81 (3,522 sales, up 262.60%) and Rehab 100 places lower (1,436 sales, up 573.15%). Winehouse’s overall UK sales: 1,753,418 singles and 3,982,571 albums.

Amy's "Back To Black" album is also #1 at all Amazon stores.

There's also a rumor that her 3rd posthumous album (which was said to be completed yet pushed back after her Belgrade fiasco) will still be released this upcoming September.

Re: R.I.P Amy Winehouse Memorial thread

I don't think anyone can doubt that she was incredibly talented, its just painful to see someone live life like she did. I got a little more disappointed everytime I saw a report that she was doing poorly. As an adult child of an alcoholic, its difficult to watch people do it to themselves, knowing that there's nothing anyone else can do for them.

Unfortunately, some people's rock bottom is their own untimely death. I just hope that it sends a message to other people who struggle and that it has a positive effect on their lives. I'm sad that she passed as I hoped that Amy would get her life together and prove to the world that people can overcome the disease.

She will be missed and hopefully now, she is resting peacefully.

Re: Twitter is exploding with Amy Winehouse Death!

Back to Black is brilliant! Listened to it for the last couple of days...haunting now that she's gone.

Re: Twitter is exploding with Amy Winehouse Death!

I knew she was special in 2007, but I had no idea how many other people felt the same way. There's a phenomenal outpouring for her and I think she'd be amazed...

this is for Amy...

Re: Twitter is exploding with Amy Winehouse Death!

I'm surprised they cremated her tho, I thought that was against Jewish law.

That prompted me to look up Jewish funeral practices and, of course, you're right about cremations.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bereavement_in_Judaism

I did also notice this paragraph:

"Halakha (Jewish law) forbids tattoos, and there is a persistent myth that this prevents burial in a Jewish cemetery. This is not true. A small minority of burial societies will not accept someone with a tattoo, but Jewish law does not require this, and most burial societies do not have this restriction. Removing the tattoo after death would be completely forbidden."

Hmm!

Re: R.I.P Amy Winehouse Memorial thread

So...I was searching out vids to add to my oldies collection, and came across this. Can't remember the last time I literally got CHILLS listening to someone sing, but goddamn if she ain't puttin' it DOWN!!!

Damn though, hearing something like this just really makes it sink in what a waste of talent & opportunities her passing really is.

Apologies if this has already been posted.

Re: R.I.P Amy Winehouse Memorial thread

Sharon Osbourne knew Amy personally, through Kelly Osbourne. She revealed more details about Amy's lifestyle, e.g. cutting herself, on her show The Talk.

And if you live outside of the U.S. and can't view, here's the segment split into two parts that can be viewed globally...

Amy Winehouse’s Dad Gives Away Her Clothes

Friday, July 29, 2011

Grieving fans of singer Amy Winehouse who passed away on Saturday were rewarded for their loyalty to the star. The fans, many of whom held a vigil outside Amy’s $4 million flat for 6 days straight, watched yesterday as her parents, Mitch and Janis and her brother Alex, entered Amy’s flat to begin clearing out her possessions.

But instead of putting everything up on eBay, the fans were stunned when Amy’s dad emerged from the flat with an armful of clothes – and began giving the items away.

“These are Amy’s T-shirts. This is what she would have wanted – for her fans to have her clothes,” said Mitch as he distributed the clothing to Amy’s surprised fans.

According to The Sun, Londoner Brigitte Pividal, 52, was left clutching one of the Back To Black singer’s red vests. She said: “I will cherish this for the rest of my life.”

Another fan was given one of Amy’s favorite white tank tops which she wore over her own clothing.

Something that Amy’s dad not give away were her treasured pair of ballerina slippers (above right), which he tucked into his back pocket for safe keeping.

Even in death Amy was able to touch her fans in the most intimate way, via her father, through the precious joy of giving.

Re: Amy Winehouse - When Is It Too Soon To Make Fun Of A Tragedy?

It's never 'too soon' to make fun of a tragedy.

Everything is worthy of being sacrificed on the altar of humour ... and for some of us, laughter is the only way to deal with the fickle tragedies of the world.
