Re: Amy Winehouse - When Is It Too Soon To Make Fun Of A Tragedy?

I think it's too soon, but it was bound to happen. And now Arecibo's inactive... :'(

Re: Amy Winehouse - When Is It Too Soon To Make Fun Of A Tragedy?

I don't want this to seem like a lecture/ I didn't open this thread to make a speech or lecture anyone **sips water from under podium** ...but that Rehab song is way misunderstood. That's the brilliance of Winehouse's music, it addresses social issues, and that was an issues close to her heart/she knew she had a problem... I feel Rehab was a cry for help in the most straight forward way she knew...
does that make any sense?

No part of her tragic life and death could ever support a humorous antidote I would appreciate. But I won't condemn unless I feel someone is just being sadistically cruel. Then we fight:jab:

If you knew anything about addiction - I do, I watch Celebrity Rehab - addiction controls the person. They are not in control anymore, the drugs are.

When Hooded Rat has a family member who dies. we'll start a thread and make fun of the death.

For now, we could make fun of his name. I think about a hooded clitoris every time a see his name

;-)
I watched the third season of Celebrity Rehab because of Mike Starr...I grew up on Alice In Chains, and never gave up hope Mikey would kick his heroin addiction.
It broke my heart to see him battle for another shot at making music, but more so to just be a productive member of society/that show doesn't flatter anyone/it's actually embarrassing to watch at times. Jerry Cantrell denounced Celebrity Rehab, saying it was exploitive of his friend...but Mike keeded the money...see the irony? It does prey on people.
I was crushed for days after his sudden death in March. He's with his best friend Layne Staley now, but the tragedy remains that neither of them had to die... addiction is a tragedy/anyone that suggests otherwise or wants to debate that is either uninformed or being purposely insensitive and judgmental about "that lifestyle." Well, there are as many "lifestyles" to "judge" as there are addicts in the world and it can kill ANYONE! imho

that said...
lol @ hooded clitoris hehe (no offense to my JUB-bud Hooded Rat(*8*))

The day she died, I ended up telling my friends:

So, they tried to make her go to rehab...In hindsight, she probably should have said yeah, yeah, yeah...

That may just be my sense of humour, or it may be the fact that someone who actively engages in something they know will likely end up killing them (especially hard drugs and the like) knew the risks and had options to get out of that lifestyle...But decided not to.

As such, I find it hard to feel sorry for someone who purposefully chose to self-destruct rather than get help...That may sound harsh...But, I suppose that's my view on it.
okay, I submit, Reeper should be exempt from being serious EVAR! with that avatar hehehe I love it! just a week ago I watched a video with that skit -- the Ministry of Stupid Walks lol hilarious!
Amy would have smiled, she had a great sense of humor, but I know her addiction brought her shame and if she could have been clean she would have been... poor think, bless her heart.

I think it's too soon, but it was bound to happen. And now Arecibo's inactive... :'(
what's that mean exactly? inactive? I'm thinking, the moderators dragged him out back by the dumpster and beat the shit out of him then confiscated his meds since he was abusing them___

JUB members may not be angels but we can be conscious that we're role models for some peeps [if only one kid is saved we all win!].
whoa, is it too soon to make fun of Arec being inactive? #-oI'm an insensitive bastard sometimes....

I like the person known as 'hooded rat'
and I liked the person formerly known as active Arecibo

That's all I got

Re: Amy Winehouse - When Is It Too Soon To Make Fun Of A Tragedy?

While I think Winehouse's actions clearly lead to her demise--I think it's ridiculous to make fun of anyone's death.

Call me uptight, stick up my ass or whatever. It's not cool.

I couldn't agree more! Not cool.

Re: Amy Winehouse - When Is It Too Soon To Make Fun Of A Tragedy?

Elton John will perform at Amy Winehouse's funeral with a beautiful rendition of Candle Under The Spoon.

My favorite joke on Winehouse so far.

I love Amy Winehouse. Her music and her antics... such talent. I will miss you Amy.

Re: Amy Winehouse - When Is It Too Soon To Make Fun Of A Tragedy?

I heard her ashes are currently at a street market price of about $10,000 a gram.

It's never too soon to be thankful that there's one less person churning out shitty music.

It is an apt moment to repeat my very personal thoughts on Amy Winehouse, knowing that she received many awards from her peers for the quality of her music, and singing voice.

The personal life of a celebrity singer should not be the measure of an artist's professional qualities, and achievements. Otherwise we would be obliged to rethink our perspectives on very, many people whose professional achievements, and successes have concealed their less than attractive personal life.

I was only aware of this late singer's life when reading newspaper reports on her addictions.

I had never listened to her music until after her death;then I understood that she was one of the very, very few in contemporary popular music who not only could sing, but sing with a quality that mesmerised me sufficiently to want to hear more of her enchanting voice.

Re: Amy Winehouse - When Is It Too Soon To Make Fun Of A Tragedy?

I found her voice to be not so pleasant, but even worse, the music she was singing to was so bad that I'd dislike it no matter who was singing it.

Re: Amy Winehouse - When Is It Too Soon To Make Fun Of A Tragedy?

i found out about her death on the afternoon she died by a friend texting me the following:
"Amy Winehouse will of course be buried in High Barnet"

Not sure many on here will get that one.

I rather suspect that after her death it did not matter to Amy that she might have been high at the time of her demise.

That Amy was famous for her deep contralto vocals also suggests that she was incapable of reaching too many highs, which would have eliminated any possibility of her becoming an opera singer.

You appear to have completely missed the joke there. #-o

Clue: 'Barnet' was the key word. ;)

I know Barnet is north near Stanmore. Is this an insiders' joke?

Actually Amy's ashes were interred at a cemetery in Edgeware.

The allusion to a joke is firmly focused the use of the word, high.

Or, as Hooded Rate indicates the Bar net also references Amy's alcohol addiction

Re: Amy Winehouse - When Is It Too Soon To Make Fun Of A Tragedy?

Allow me to elucidate ... and I do so love a bit of elucidation now and again.

Barnet Fair = Hair, in cockney rhyming slang, shortened to Barnet.

High Barnet = a place in London

High Barnet = high hair.
