Re: Any anime fans? I need recommendations

Thanks guys. I started watching Moribito, I think i'll continue it.

What about Cowboy Bebop?

Cowboy Bebop is the shit.

Someone previously mentioned Grave of the Fireflies. It's really good, but it's depressing as HELL. By the time the movie's halfway over you'll be slitting your wrists. By the way when I mentioned the Evangelion series I meant the television series and NOT the movies. THe movies are excellent but if you even try to watch them without seeing the television series first you won't understand a damn thing that's going on.

I said the same thing to a friend of mine and he was all cocky and said "fuck that I'll figure out what the movie's about and just watch it." WHen the movie was over he looked at me and said "You were right. I have no clue what the fuck just happened."

Re: Any anime fans? I need recommendations

oh yes, i LOVED samurai champloo. Don't know how I forgot that one. I'll look at all these trailers now

I also really liked Elfen Lied. You should watch that shit. It's super cutesy style in the way that it's illustrated, but the content is violent as fuck (read: it fucks your mom, that's how cool it is.)

BTW if that's you in your avatar you're fucking hot.

^Serial Experiments: Lain

To OP, I recommend:

Seirei no Moribito - I love this series.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=waSwndpzFSU

I cant think of any more at the moment, but I will post again later if I remember more.

Serial Experiments Lain kicked so much ass it was ridiculous. Although the OP said he didn't want something with a ton of dialogue which is what 99% of Lain is. Wow, this is the most nerdcore thread on JUB and I'm completely dorking out over it.

Re: Any anime fans? I need recommendations

Oh btw, I forgot to mention Ergro Proxy. That one is for sure a must. WATCH IT!

Re: Any anime fans? I need recommendations

Personally I'm a bigger Manga person then I am into anime but I started off on anime so I know a # of good ones.

Awesome Animes:
Full Metal Alchemist: You listed this one. But there are two different anime's out. 1 is its own storyline completely while the other follows the manga's storyline (manga version is called "Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood")

How to tell the difference: In the manga version their teacher never had a son. In the original anime FMA story Ed and Al's teacher has a son.
Just so we are clear: the Manga came before the FMA anime, but the FMA anime finished before the Manga did. Point in fact the entire storylines are different from when Scar kills the man's daughter in the beginning of the series.

You should totally watch both series because both are absolutely amazing. I'd give the manga versions storyline a 10 (it is in fact my favorite manga) and the anime version an 8.5.

Other awesome anime:
~Anything by Miyazaki. Wikipedia his name and watch all animes he's had anything to do with (cept maybe pocco rosso. But thats me personally).
~Death Note
~One Piece
~If you like One Piece i suggest Fairy Tale
~Cowboy Bebop is a must
~Samurai Champloo
~Fooly Cooly <- only 6 episodes long. half hour each. Short and compact full of awesome.
~Outlaw star is a blast
~Peprika <-trippy mind fuck but really fun
~Ruroni Kenshin

edit- If you liked DBZ then you should watch "Dragon Ball". Its when Goku was a kid. It's not as focused on action stuff and "Powering up" like DBZ was. Point in fact the original Dragon Ball Manga was supposed to be a pervy, silly manga. Hence Master Roshi and pretty much everyone else being total perverts.

Just for the sake of your soul...***do not watch Dragon Ball GT***. Its worse then the dumbest storylines of DBZ...

I'll post more when I inevitably think of them

Re: Any anime fans? I need recommendations

Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo. This series is a must. It is simply beautiful and has great story.

Re: Any anime fans? I need recommendations

I personally dislike Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle and Studio Ghibli in general XD

Some Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is awesome, if you haven't seen that yet. Other good ones are Death Note and Code Geass.

Did you dislike Princess Mononoke? That's one of the best movies EVER!

Re: Any anime fans? I need recommendations

I'd really suggest watching subbed stuff rather than dubbed, it gives you *way* more options as a number of good anime's having been officially dubbed and a # of the ones that have, have been done poorly.

Case in point: One Piece. If your gonna watch it dubbed I suggest you don't watch it at all =x

But pretty much each anime on the list u just gave has good dubs

Re: Any anime fans? I need recommendations

Flcl ...gunsmith Cats Those Are 2 Of My Favs.

Re: Any anime fans? I need recommendations

So here's the list I'm compiling.

Death Note
Cowboy Bebop
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Outlaw Star
Trigun
Evangelion series
Moribito
Ninja Scroll

tried to take at least one suggestion from everyone
I've seen Paprika and Spirited Away already.
And does Ergo Proxy have dubbed episodes?

Ergo Proxy does have a dubbed version. I never watch the dubbed versions of anything though because the acting always makes me cringe. That and the translation is usually really screwy. I can't remember what movie it was, but I watched one maybe 10 years ago dubbed. I then saw the subtitled version and it was literally almost a completely different movie because of how badly they translated the dubbed version. I decided to stick with subbed movies after that experience.

By the way, I know this sounds ridiculous but try not to judge Evangelion by the first half of the series alone. I mean don't get me wrong I think the first half is decent, but believe me by the time you're more than halfway through it you'll just be amazed at everything. It's really the perfect anime. It has a blend of high action, philosophy, and really bad/awesome comedy.

Re: Any anime fans? I need recommendations

Everyone keeps mentioning truly awesome films and tv series.

Might i also suggest

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
Last Exile
and Wolf's Rain

Although you can't go wrong with what everyone else has suggested, especially Cowboy Bebop and Neon Genesis.

Re: Any anime fans? I need recommendations

Tons of great recommendations in here.

Braex recommended X/1999, which is one of my all-time favorite movies and there is also a TV series simply called X that can be found also that re-tells the story in the movie with a much more detail and style. I recommend picking up Tokyo Babylon prior to watching the X series however, as it gives some fairly important background to a couple of the characters.

Another personal favorite of mine is Fushigi Yuugi. It's a trifle silly at times and I tend to go for more serious anime but I just love it. The OVAs are good too and have hilarious omake chapters.

Bleach, which I read and watch habitually, is definitely a up and down series. Usually when you hit periods in the anime where you lose interest, it generally means you're watching filler. Bleach has A LOT of filler and most of it isn't very good imo.

I just started 07-Ghost and so far I'm enjoying it through 5 episodes.

Re: Any anime fans? I need recommendations

Yuyu hakusho, Saber Marionette J, Bubblegum Crisis, Evangelion, Zenki, Magic Knight Rayearth, Slayers.
