And Let's not forget about the other Deplorables

I wish I had the nerve to elaborate but I don't. It would be completely politically incorrect to share my observations and experiences in person with some (not all) TG folks and I don't want to hear the "anti trans" comments.

I will just say that I am not at all surprised by the findings.

I will say that if Trans people didn't have to deal with years of struggle, despair and rejection by families, friends and communities...their mental state might be a lot better?

But again, I have only limited experience to go by. I can say that there is someone in our family who had the greatest parents and support and has been loved and taken care of since their mid-teens as they moved through this process and they are as balanced and happy and funny and full of joy as anyone else I know in our clan.

There's a thread a while back where we were talking about how far we've come in the portrayals of gay characters in entertainment that we can accept that there are gay characters who are assholes without fearing that people will generalize and say that "all gay people are assholes".

We're not quite there with trans people where we can see the brought spectrum of the trans community but we do have to be prepared that there are going to be trans people who are horrible human beings... just like with every other group.

I am curious what the FBI profilers come up with on this latest shooter. The typical mass shooter has been either a young white male with socialization issues. I won't be surprised if we discover a lot of overlap with this latest shooter and the usual suspects. I also won't be surprised if we discover that this is not someone who identified as "trans" until very recently and that it turns out to be a symptom of a larger issue.

It's also important to remind ourselves that the only thing about this incident is that is new or unusual is that it combines two recurring themes: mass shootings in a school and mass shootings in a place of worship. In my mind, I can't easy think of something more cruel than slaughtering children in a school OR slaughtering people in a place of worship but apparently, we're in a new level of cruelty where someone slaughters children in a religious school.

I also think it's not possible to discuss this sometimes because for a few, they won't hear anything they don't like and will immediately start accusing.

Of course, though for some people the opportunity to hate with impunity will keep them from listening, it is possible sometimes, to separate out who is just ignorant, and who is actually a hater.

I've been taught that physically a Trans person's physical body is not the determinant, and I will absolutely 1000 percent defend a person's right to live their life without discrimination. I think there are a lot of people who get alienated from that position with arguments about what a "real" woman or man might be, and it's not helpful to immediately yell at them and demand they surrender. There's plenty of time for the yelling when one has explained - and if they still hate, scream away.

And speaking of horrible human beings... Ginni Thomas.

Ginni just got caught money-laundering donations to her little looney not-for-profit. Where did the money go? And be assured it wasn't on Clarence's financial disclosures...

A little-known conservative activist group led by Virginia “Ginni” Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, collected nearly $600,000 in anonymous donations to wage a cultural battle against the left over three years, a Washington Post investigation found.

The previously unreported donations to the fledgling group Crowdsourcers for Culture and Liberty were channeled through a right-wing think tank in Washington that agreed to serve as a funding conduit from 2019 until the start of last year, according to documents and interviews. The arrangement, known as a “fiscal sponsorship,” effectively shielded from public view details about Crowdsourcers’ activities and spending, information it would have had to disclose publicly if it operated as a separate nonprofit organization, experts said.

Anyone who would go kill children is mentally ill, whatever the motivation. I still think religion is going to pop up in this somewhere. I'm not so sanguine about the benign nature of religious instruction of any kind. It's always propaganda at some level. Just hearing God hates homosexuals without the accusation ever being leveled at me as a child was incredibly damaging, and I'm not even, and never was very religious.

I agree with you but I think this particular shooter had a relationship with this school, just like Adam Lanza had with Sandy Hook. It seems to be a pattern: social misfits who attack schools that they know and not for a particular motive. This was true of Uvalde, too.

If one wanted to target awful evangelicals, all one would have to do is make a shopping list of all the molesters and abusers from churches that have been recounted and enumerated in this thread. Killing two 60-something Presbyterian ladies and a janitor just makes the shooter look even more horrible and just emphasizes how senseless it all is.

It's probable that the Uvalde shooter would have shot up anything that crossed his path. If he'd have crashed his truck outside a Wendy's he'd have shot that up. The first thing he did was shoot his grandmother.

He was also severely bullied at school and taunted for being poor and different. Maybe he'd have grown out of it if it wasn't legal for him to buy assault rifles the moment he turned 18. I'm not saying that he was less culpable, it's just moot to discuss his guilt with him being dead.

Nevertheless, the system failed at several points and the result was this. The most sickening thing is that the politics on the right created those systemic failures deliberately - for profit and power.

Let's watch Murdoch Corps scramble to settle with an NDA.

Hopefully Dominion has the balls to let this play out in a courtroom.

Lindsey Graham. Because he is openly inciting violence by pro-Trumpers.

This troll. For trying to trick voters in 2016.

Prosecutors argued that Mackey posted the images to trick Black voters and women in particular, pointing to his past posts describing Black people as “gullible” and saying women shouldn’t be allowed to vote.

“The defendant did this for the most simple, straightforward and obvious reason of all — that he wanted people to fall for it,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Turner Buford told the jury.

I am looking forward to when it really gets ugly between the MAGAts and the DeSantis stans.

And it will be crazy when the GQP politicians have to start to express support for one or the other in the absence of a credible conservative candidate.

The big fear and probably why Miss Lindsey has been on doing the Claire Danes ugly cry all week is that the Republicans live in fear that Trump is going to start a third party. Because the Republicans have not expanded their base and they have enabled bat-shit crazy since 2020, a party split would split the donors and would return the Republicans and MAGA/Birchers to the wilderness of the permanent minority. Again.
