This was actually depressing reading today....it is all so cynical.

It's all part of the same disease- the sexual abuse in Christian churches, the sickness of the White Christian Nationalists and Trump cultists.

There's an interesting article in Newsweek that quotes an interview with a former leader in the Southern Baptist Convention who was accused of using "liberal talking points" when he read the red letters (i.e. the direct quotes of Jesus) from the New Testament.

These evangelicals are mentally ill. They have lost their way. They no longer adhere to the teachings in the New Testament and are no longer are behaving like Christians.

So, it should not come as any surprise that those Christians who followed Jerry Falwell Sr's descent into partisan politics and far-right authoritarianism are getting arrested for vile crimes. It shouldn't come as a surprise that Jerry Falwell's son, who raised millions of dollars for Liberty University while hanging out with the ultrarich, was forced to resign after those stories came out that Jerry Jr was drinking, partying and enjoyed watching other men fuck his wife.

It should also not come as a surprise that they're trying to blame their sins on other people like drag queens.

That's the cynical part that is depressing.

The moment I hear anyone described as 'Youth Pastor', my alarm bells immediately go off. Which is probably horribly unfair.

But I saw it in my own small hometown when the new methodist minister arrived. Married, with a kid and eventually caught giving a kid a blow job in the Sunday School Room.

As I have said before, I get the thing where a man who thought that God would save him from desire fails. But in the right wing, evangelical world and in too many cases in the Church...I think too many look upon it as an opportunity to get access.

Ah- but see... this is why, when we allow someone to get away with something, it becomes a precedent. For example, now that McConnell has both refused to allow a Supreme Court nominee to get a hearing because it was an election year (ironically, Obama nominee Merrick Garland) but then rushed through another nominee on the eve of an election (Trump Amy COVID Barrett), now a Democratic Majority Leader can make up any rule needed to not allow future Republican SCOTUS nominees to be seated.

No one put up a fight when Bill Barr appointed US Attorney John Durham as a "Special Counsel Attorney" to attempt to cover up Trump's ubiquitous Russian connections during the 2016 election ("investigating the Special Counsel Robert Mueller Investigation").

Merrick Garland did exactly what Barr did- he appointed a US Attorney as "Special Counsel Attorney" Only now, everyone suddenly remembers that the law says they're not supposed to do that.
