Mullins McLeod is the only Democrat (so far) who has announced his candidacy for South Carolina governor. South Carolina media has released a video of Mr McLeod making a 30 minute trip in the back of a police car. Mr McLeod is clad only in his underwear and a pair of shoes. Police picked him up after reports of a near-naked man wondering down a sidewalk. In the back of the police vehicle, McLeod is heard screaming and hurling expletives at the police officers.

It's apparent that Mr McLeod has some issues and should probably drop out of the race and spend some time dealing with his demons. However, so far he has chosen to stay in the race.

Mr McLeod lives in Nancy Mace's district. As long as these are the choices that South Carolina Democrats have, lunatics like Nancy Mace and closet cases like Lindsey Graham will continue to get re-elected.

That video, released by the Charleston Police Department, shows the arrest of a prominent Lowcountry attorney Mullins McLeod, who announced his candidacy for the Democratic primary for governor on Monday.

Again, it seems in the US that decent, normal people do not run for office....but that is not uncommon here either.

Even in our own local elections, it always seems like fringe candidates with borderline personality disorders pop up to run based on some grievance or another.

And more an more, it seems like people who see politics as a means to enrich and empower themselves are the ones running at the provincial (state) and federal level.

It is obvious that McLeod has substance abuse issues and is incapable of serving. But we thought that about a number of others who hold positions of power now.

What I find a little chilling is that the police decided that the video from the back of the police vehicle should be released publicly. While this may actually be a case of the public interest being served, would they have done the same thing if it had been the Republican candidate?

I had a bit of a flashback to the wild and woolly 70s when Democratic politicians were being carried out of DC bars, waking up in backseats of stranger's cars or were driving their mistresses off bridges... followed by blind support and excuses by the party leadership.

Given the behavior of McLeod, the video is of public interest. This man should be nowhere near any public office.

Now that those Southern White Democrats have rebranded themselves as Republicans, they're making the same excuses for the deplorable behavior of Republican politicians. Contrast that with the statement of the modern Democratic Party leadership:
