  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Another closeted homophobic pastor outed

Guys, you seem to be playing fast and loose with the term pedophile ...

While innocent until proven guilty, this particular minister, as I posted above, is definitely fitting the profile of someone who should not be in the pulpit and certainly should not be entrusted with the care of young men.

But I haven't seen anything in the reports yet that substantiate classifying him as a pedophile.

Have you forgotten...In America if you're Black you are always Presumed Guilty until you're found innocent...That will never change...

Correct, he is not a pedophile. A pedophile is someone who molests children.

These people were all of legal age (16 in GA).

He is however a sick, deeply conflicted hypocrite who used his authority to illicit sexual favors from young people who held him in a position of trust. That isn't much better.

Aren't the allegations being made by young Black men?

Should we assume they are guilty of making false charges?

I'm surprised by the defense of this man, especially in this forum.

1) After news of his salary surfaced, he hired a PR person to make him look better. A preacher needs someone to tell him how to be charitable!!!???

2) His church has a "Cure the Homos" program. Obviously he didn't attend.

3) He held a march against gay marriage carrying a silver flaming torch. That torch wasn't the only thing flaming.

4) Now we hear of allegations of kissing, touching, masturbating and bed sharing with members of his own flock? What young men would want to subject themselves to this kind of embarrassment?

He's as guilty as sin and everyone knows it!

Noone has defended the accusation that Bishop had sex with teenage boys and believes the act was all good, but people are Defending the allegations made against him....This will be a Civil suit....Like any citizen he does have the right to lawyer-up, defend himself publicly & speak about the accusations in the pulpit...The Bishop made a name for himself and has never been accused of anything until today...I agree with any member of his Church that takes their Pastor at his word until he is proven a Liar in Court...As a Member of a baptist church I would have to make the same decision especially if my Pastor had good-standing in the Church & the Community for many years.......

His accusers have the same civil rights. All we know about them is that they were once members of the church. We don't know if they have any proof of what's being alleged....Members of the Church that know the young Men and support them should...

The Church is now divided by the Majority supporting the Bishop until the trial VS members supporting the young Men and all they can do is wait for a judge to hear the case...

Most crimes happen within race I think, so this fits.

And besides, we are talking about a guy that at the very least is engaging in gay sex as he actively seeks to harm the gay community.

All americans are innocent until proven otherwise, but no one is disputing that he is anti gay.

Why are WE not given the rights that he is entitled to, in his opinion?

All americans are innocent until proven otherwise,

You believe that because you are White and you don't know how the justice system has FUCKED over Black Americans...White Americans actually believed RACISM ended the day Barack Obama moved into the White House...We're living in 2 different Americas..

White Americans still don't get it...

Actually I get hate mail here regularly for saying just what you just said.

I dated a black man for three years, and I got it then. Standing on a corner to wait for traffic and having people reach over and lock the door, the ugly looks as a racially mixed couple, the promotions he was passed over, not being invited to parties JUST because my BF wasn't welcome... I understand, and you thinking that others don't JUST because they are white is not so nice, either.

Now if you would just tell me how that excuses the pastor for trying to take gay civil rights from gay people, I will be happy to defend his.

When I left the Catholic Church for a period of my life, I worshipped with Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian, and Evangelical congregations. I even joined the Baptist and Methodist and was married (to a woman...another story) in a Presbyterian Church.

I think more than anything this points to the dangers of a church that focuses on its pastor or messenger rather than the message. Jesus did not preach a prosperity gospel -- hell, he didn't even have a house. He taught on how to give to the poor, the imprisoned, the widow, the lonely, the outcast, and the sick. He hung out with fishermen (not the greatest group) and tax collectors along with a former whore.

Too many of these "feel good" and "get rich" churches become very good for the person creating them. Things have a way of exposing themselves and I trust that is what is happening here.

As to waiting for a court: there is a legal situation unfolding but there is also to be a separation of church and state. The state doesn't tell the church who to pastor or who is the pastor; that is a church situation and there should be a process established to deal with things like this. Certainly the Catholic church has and is learning the need for such a process; it is not the only one in which parishoners can be abused.

But when you have "the bishop" as the pastor as the leader and pretty much as the creator of the church -- kind of hard to separate other than by speaking with ones' feet and finding the door.

I lived through a church that refused to deal with an abusive pastor; he was spiritually abusive to his congregation. It caused much sorrow, much anger, and much angst. Many of the congregation never recovered; I left when I started to see it and others refused.

With the overhead that this church and pastor have created; it would not take much to impact it.

BostonPirate...I know what the word of God teaches and Bishop chose to shut the door on the Gay Cummunity instead of reaching out with Love like the Bible says...His walk with God is his & his alone and it's not my place to judge him...So I can't explain to you why the Bishop feels the way he does about Gays & Bi's anymore than you can explain why a portion of the White Gay Community is Racist..It simply is what it is...It will never change on either side..

The NAACP made a Pledge to stand with the Gay Community and help fight for their Civil Rights..The Gay Community did NOT extend an olive branch back..Anybody surprised?.....NOT...

Black people don't need the Gay Community to march with them it is the other way around....A portion of the Gay Community has SERIOUS issues when it comes to race...

A large portion of it, I agree completely.

But I want to hope and believe that it is no more or less than the general population.

I do know that it is VERY hard to be gay within the african american community, so there is work to be done there as well.

Things are not as good as they ought to be.

we can all do better all the way around.

What would have been a "gay community" olive branch that you would have considered equitable?

To be fair, these allegations have been spoken of (especially in the thread title) as if they're already fact.

These poor guys. A lot of sad news this week.

Very true...Black Pastors know they have Gay members that attend their church faithfully. Some will Preach against homosexuality, some won't touch it & some will teach &/or preach on homosexuality and the Love that Jesus has for all his children.

I have 3 Pastors. My Mother Pastors a church and she does not touch the subject. The Church that my Entire family has attended for decades has Gay Officers (including Deacons). They don't wear Gay T-shirts but you know.. The Pastor had 1 sermon on "God's love" and talked about Homosexuality. My Primary Pastor doesnt touch it.

The Church has influence but some Pastors would rather not talk about homosexuality. They either feel uncomfortable preaching on what the Scripture says about Homosexuality or they simply do not want to offend Gay members they Love like family.

I look at it like this. There's so many young Gay Black men growing up in the church..More Pastors need to take a stand and Preach from the heart. Gay members can decide whether to stay with that Church or find another Sanctuary..The Church has influence in the Black Community and there's so many programs &/or work-shops they can implement that can spread awareness & help lower the HIV rates in our community..It's almost 2011 something gotta change...

It's been awfully quiet on the Bishop watch. Has anyone else come forward or on the Bishop? :rotflmao:
