AntiVirus 2010 PLEASE make it go away!

I've owned a computer off and on since 1994 and I've had viruses on my hard drive many times, but NOTHING ever compared to the AntiVirus 2010 virus. I had it on my computer about a month ago.

NOTHING I tried to get rid of it worked. When I tried to access sites that offered anti-virus software, it would redirect me a search result page to purchase anti-virus software. When I clicked on one of those links, it would redirect me back to the search result page. I would even get "Internet Explorer errors" on those pages, but not on anything else. The virus was actually smart enough to know I was trying to get rid of it. The software that I were able to download would either not install on my computer or if they began to run would stop and close down after a few seconds.

Even though I already had Malwarebyte on my computer, it wouldn't even execute when I clicked on the icon. The cursor would do the hourglass thing, then go back to an arrow cursor. Spybot actually found a few things, but as soon as I deleted them, when I ran it again, it would find more stuff that it hadn't seen the first time, or maybe it was the same stuff that just came back. None of my backup drives would work, so I was unable to backup any data. I browsed around online for help to manually uninstall the virus, but most didn't even address the error messages I was getting. I finally managed to delete enough of it that I was able to get my CD-Rom drive to work again, but it wouldn't play DVD's, only CD's so I tried to back up as much stuff as I could on CDs. I pretty much had to pick and choose what I wanted to keep and just lose the rest. After I felt comfortable with losing what was left on my hard drive, I did a complete system reinstall.

There should be a special place in Hell for people who create computer viruses. But the creators of the AntiVirus 2010, need to be screwed by all the demons of Hell.

I went through this hell today, I got a virus called Antivirus System Pro, seems to be related to Antivirus 2010.

I think I have removed it, I have run everything from Spybot to Malawarebytes, and they all say clear, am praying that is really the case.

I have Malwarebytes running at all times and it is the professional version.

Try out SUPERAntiSpyware also.

Download Avast Anti-Virus
Try Out HijackThis! (From Trend Micro) but learn how to use it firstly. CLICK HERE TO LEARN HOW TO USE IT.

In case the virus is preventing you from directly visiting security web sites, go to Nsanedown.com and look under the security tab for solutions.

(PM me for links for Geek Squad MRI Disk via ********** which includes the full ISO disk that has several scanners on it)

1. Take this opportunity to upgrade your operating system. If you find Unix based ones too hard to use/don't want to use them, get Windows 7.

2. Install your OS to a separate hard drive/partition.

3. With your old HDD in the computer but unplugged, boot your new operating system. Using the new operating system, install a legitimate virus scanner.

4. Turn off your machine. Plug the old HDD back in. Boot your new operating system again. Use the new system to scan the old hard drive. Once it's scanned, copy over any important stuff (photos/videos/documents only, don't back up programs unless YOU wrote them).

5. Format the old hard drive. And not a quick format. Do the long one.

Thanks, I was using Malaware Free Edition it just alerted me of a trojan.fakealert a minute ago and quarantined it for me.

I had Avast on the system already and it was up to date but still allowed the hijack to occur.

So right now I have
Avast and Malaware running.

I scanned my computer with the following
Avast
Malaware
Super Anti Spyware
Spybot search and destroy.

All scans came back clear.

When the attack occured I was freaking out, it all looked very legit, no matter what I did I just couldnt get any info on it, it kept blocking my attempts to open a browser, all they wanted as a credit card number.
I actually gave them a credit card number, one that I never use, this allowed me to browse and find some info on the damn thing, I was able to close the program using rkill causing the popups and then run malaware, that found the offending files and seems to have cured my machine.

Obviously I will dispute the charge on the credit card and monitor it closely in case they clone it or what not, in fact I will probably just shut it down and get a new card with a new number.

I am not in a position to change my operating system at the moment, I am using Vista, so I am hoping and praying that Avast and Malaware will keep me out of harms way.

Josh

They probably are ALL related and all the malware/antivirus/adware you have won't protect you if you click on them........they are written that way for a reason.
DO NOT attempt to X them out........STOP THE PROCESS by using the TASK MANAGER........some are now being written that clicking on the X launches the payload.......

Is your problem completely gone now? I hope so. I went and got an infraction for illegal file sharing! LOLZ! I'll do it all again if I can help out people...because I'm not selfish nor do I fear the big bat of "the powers that be" (not speaking of the mods, they are simply forced to follow the rules of the powers that be LOL)

Mods, don't worry bout it. I'm not trying to criticize you for doing your job, just don't be afraid to stand up for whats right aside from whats rule. Morality is just as important as a tyrannical rule...at least I think so and so does joshj50's cleaned up computer.

My brother got this virus on his new laptop and I have no idea what the hell he does on it, he says one time when he was first setting it up it said he got a virus, and he disconnected from the Internet.

Sorry about the infraction you received from the mods,
Computer is working fine now,
Every now and then malawarebytes will alert me that it is blocking an intrusion, but other than that I seemed to have purged all the virus files off my system and it is running just fine.

Thanks again and sorry for the trouble I got you in!

The infraction you recieved was not about morality.

It was a legal issue which was pointed out to you when you used JUB services to submit your content.

If what you do is not legal, be sure we shall come down on it to correct the problem by removing such content. Remember, JUB will not be liable for your actions here if it comes to legal challenges, which means we have no other option but to submit to requests by legal representatives or law enforcement to reveal anyone who infringes on the rights to their product terms.

The law's the law, tyrannical or otherwise.

I actually noticed I had Antivirus PRO on my computer last week after my niece had used it. Couldn't run any spyware or antivirus programs or install any.

I did a search and found on a forum, can't remember what one now, it was mentioned you should download rkill and then run Malwarebytes.

After running rkill and scanning with Malwarebytes my computer seems pretty much okay. I do have a bit of a problem opening links when I do searches with Google sometimes (I'll click on a link and instead of the link opening it'll take me back to the Google homepage).

I'm sure I haven't gotten rid of it all, but I've been planning on getting a new computer anyway. This will just speed me up.

Viruses suck.

I had a version of this last year, and figured out that if I stayed connected to the 'net while trying to get rid of it, it was just reloading itself as fast as any software could kill it.

I was JUST about to create a thread about this! I was hit by "Antivirus Live" three days ago. The difference between (and the reason my Nortons did not find it) this virus and others, is that it makes YOU personally open it up, (posing as my windows live) and that bypasses the security system you have. I did three Norton Virus scans, and it still did not delete it. But tonite...BINGO...it's gone! I went to Google to look up on this, and came across some programs claiming to get rid of it. Most looked like tricks, (other viruses) so I did not try them. I found one called "Spyware Doctor" and started to download it. After it downloaded, and before I could open it up, ....Nortons popped up saying "Danger! We have deleted virus Spyware Doctor." Well, right after that, Antivirus Live" STOPPED giving me pop ups (10 pages every thirty seconds or so) and fifteen minutes later it's little blue shield symbol (which tricks you by looking like windows shield) which was loaded into my icons file at the bottom of my screen,.....disappeared! That was an hour ago, and still no pop ups or any sign of the virus.
So, just wanted to let people know of MY experience with this. Maybe this will help someone else. My assumption is that "Spyware Doctor" was part of Antivirus Live, and a part that Nortons was able to recognize and therefor delete.

Spybot S&D is also amazing. :)

yeah this worked for me for a while, but i only went away for a little while. came back about 20 times and finally crashed my PC.... got a computer pro/genius to come in and salvage documents and pictures.......

Antivirus Live, aka laptopantivirus, is a real bastard....... :grrr:
The ONLY good thing I can say is it CAN be removed UNLIKE some instances of Antivirus 2009 or 2010.

The ONLY way to avoid getting hit by Antivirus Live is do not click on ANYTHING that arrives in your email.
A friend got infected by a VERY good spoofed email from BP (British Petrolium) telling him the main site was down and offered 3 links to use........and WHAMMO.....

It took me about 3 1/2 hours to fix but it's fixed.

No, just don't use Windows.

hahahahaha true that!!!! i switched to an iMac about a month back and it fucking rocks. no regrets, (27 inch iMac) the key board rocks, the new mighty mouse or whatever is AMAZING and the operting system is so simple and intuative.... amazin amazin

^ AND.........it doesn't have spell check....... :rotflmao:
