I've owned a computer off and on since 1994 and I've had viruses on my hard drive many times, but NOTHING ever compared to the AntiVirus 2010 virus. I had it on my computer about a month ago.
NOTHING I tried to get rid of it worked. When I tried to access sites that offered anti-virus software, it would redirect me a search result page to purchase anti-virus software. When I clicked on one of those links, it would redirect me back to the search result page. I would even get "Internet Explorer errors" on those pages, but not on anything else. The virus was actually smart enough to know I was trying to get rid of it. The software that I were able to download would either not install on my computer or if they began to run would stop and close down after a few seconds.
Even though I already had Malwarebyte on my computer, it wouldn't even execute when I clicked on the icon. The cursor would do the hourglass thing, then go back to an arrow cursor. Spybot actually found a few things, but as soon as I deleted them, when I ran it again, it would find more stuff that it hadn't seen the first time, or maybe it was the same stuff that just came back. None of my backup drives would work, so I was unable to backup any data. I browsed around online for help to manually uninstall the virus, but most didn't even address the error messages I was getting. I finally managed to delete enough of it that I was able to get my CD-Rom drive to work again, but it wouldn't play DVD's, only CD's so I tried to back up as much stuff as I could on CDs. I pretty much had to pick and choose what I wanted to keep and just lose the rest. After I felt comfortable with losing what was left on my hard drive, I did a complete system reinstall.
There should be a special place in Hell for people who create computer viruses. But the creators of the AntiVirus 2010, need to be screwed by all the demons of Hell.
