Any Other Ectomorphs Here?

While i'm outside, I see average guys walking around everywhere with their shirt off, or with a tank top on and they actually look okay wearing this; no one says anything to them about it. But, I go out wearing a t-shirt, and I still get the occasional asshole who isn't afraid to say "HOW ARE YOU SO SKINNY, KID?!". And that made me realize: if they aren't SAYING it, then they're THINKING it.

I don't want to be thought of as small, weak and undesirable anymore. I don't want the extremes of being really skinny or really fat. I just want to be able to wear something sleeveless without dying of embarrassment. I don't think it's wrong to want that, and i've been working very, very hard over the past three years to try to obtain that. . .and i've had no luck actually keeping weight on. I think that deserves a "FFFUUUUUUU-".

Hey if you ever manage to put on some weight, let me know your secret! I wouldn't mind an extra 10-15 lbs.

And yes, I do get the "Omg you're so skinny" comments too. I've kinda started to own it though lol. Now whenever a friend says I'm skinny, I say something like: "Well we can't all be a tub o' lard like you, Fatty McChunks." It seems to work.

From your posts though, you seem to get it worse than I do, sorry to hear.

All this talk about working out, yada, yada, yada; embracing your "skinnyness" etc. and noone has inquired if you sought a medical opinion.

It could be hormonal... Try seeing an Endocrine Specialist.

You are soooooooooooooooooooo whiny I can't stand it. I'm just as skinny as you and I go outside wearing tanktops all the time. Maybe you live in a redneck place where there's no gay scene, but the compliments I get far outweigh any insults. I have had my shirt pulled off at a gay bar/club more than once.

This is what you sound like - "WAAAAAAA, I'M SOOO SKINNY!" do you know how many people would KILL to be this skinny?

Nomenclature........throughout my teens and, probably till I was near 40, I was the same way.
The ONLY difference is.....I enjoyed it as long as it lasted........everyone was SO jealous I could eat ANY and ALL I wanted without gaining an ounce.
I weighed 129 lbs, was 6' and wore 29" × 32" pants when I graduated HS.
Ten years later I was wearing 31" × 32" pants and 10 years after THAT I was wearing 32" × 32" pants.
NOW I watch what I eat and count SOME calories.
I've seen 170 on the scale and HATED THAT....... ;)

I'll do that as soon as I have a few thousand dollars to spare.

Then stop clicking on this thread, you words-I-can't-say-here.

I was wearing 29" X 32" jeans till I was 36. Now, 10 years later I have to watch it.
I'm lucky to stay at 32". Meeeemories.......

Nomenclature, if you are up to it, why not post just a torso shot. Let's see if you are really TOO skinny, or if you just feel that way. I mean, you COULD be right, but most of the time you can't fight genetics. Would you rather be chronically obese, no matter how little you ate?

It could be worse.

I'm 5'9 and usually weigh somewhere in the mid-130s (and I look like I weigh far less). I always hated my body type, but I've learned to accept it. I'd much rather be super thin than slightly overweight. Sure I may not have the most desirable body, but I always make sure I look my best....work with what you've got. Keep your hair cut nice and neat, make sure what you wear is fitted so you're not swimming in fabric, etc....

Most of all, though, work on what's inside. A whiny, doomsday outlook is far more unattractive than a thin, whispy physique.

I'm roughly 5' 5", weigh roughly 100 pounds, and just turned 40 this week. I weighed about 85 pounds when I turned 29.

What have I done? I quit worrying about what others thought and starting caring about what I thought. I started taking better care of myself in terms of my eating habits and I do some cardio when time allows. As ERIKISHERE mentioned, I work with what the good Lord gave me.

Well there are a lot of responses to this but i have to say i can totally relate!!! And what really gets me about having this issue is that most people think its a god-send!! ITS NOT!!! This extreme ectomorphism is just as bad as being overly obese!!! but most people dont realize that 2/3 of our body type is completly genetic, despite ones efforts some things just dont change!!! But regardless of any of these efforts we are constantly dealing with judgement!!! Image isnt a tell all... you can be huge and fat and increadibly healthy, just as you can be thin and "attractive" and be at really high risk! (its totally unfair but its just the way it is).

So, nomencalture, if you truly are eating all that high calorie crap, do be sure to check your, blood cholesterol/lipid levels, and your blood pressure. Just because its not showing up on your gut doesnt mean its not effecting you on the inside! be carefull!!
And if you are physical able, do start some sort of work out regime, those extra calories need a place to go and lean body mass is really what your looking for and that the only way to develop it, other wise you'll only get fat deposits. And thats never good...!

Kinda long, but...

I doubt that you look like shit. I saw the eyebrow you posted awhile ago... Sexy! ;)

Anyhow, I talked to a nutritionist before, and one of the facts she offered--which stuck in my head--is that your body is in a truly fasting state only when you're sleeping (assuming, of course, that you aren't deliberately fasting throughout the day for religious or other reasons).

If you sleep for 8 hours, during that time, you're consuming nothing, meaning that the fuel for your metabolism comes from what's already in you.

You could load up on calories before you go to sleep. Then maybe you'll metabolize only the recently-consumed fuel, but preserve what you've stored. If you do this over time, maybe you'll see some net gain. Of course, you'll want your gains to be the non-flabby type, so you'll want to workout.

I can really empathize, 'cause I used to cry when we had weigh-ins for gym class at school. I weighed 91 pounds even into high school. (Now, ironically, by my BMI, I'm slightly overweight. But I know that's because of the muscle mass that I've added.) Like a shark that has to keep swimming to rush oxygenated water past its gills, I have to keep weight-training or else I start to lose weight quickly. A few years ago, I stopped working out for about four months. People--especially my family members--would come up to me and say stuff like, "Oh my god! What's wrong with you? Why are you losing so much weight?"

Honestly, though, I'd bet that you'd feel a lot better about your looks if you looked in the mirror and saw yourself all toned and ripped and cut. I'd say focus on that, rather than on gaining pounds.

Yeah, i've been given this advice before. I try to do most of my eating later at night, and this is the ONLY way I can put any weight on me at all. . .but it's still very, very slow. And it's not exactly a way to get a healthy night's rest, either when you're laying down after eating. I'm sure it's horrible for your digestion, too.

Well, it's not easy at all for me to gain muscle mass, either. You can feel every one of my ribs, and if I raise my arms up or turn sideways, you can see them.

no matter how skinny a person may be, if they have a six/eight pack they are still considered hot as fuck.

i would recommend building your abs as a goal. arms and chest and ass would be nice but take (as you said) would take more work.

you don't really need muscles to define your abs, they kinda maintain themselves as long as fat isn't covering it.

Being forced to be on an all liquid diet for the next 4-5 days should make this a lot more interesting.

That's me in my avatar, so yes I'm an ecto.

At some point you have to learn to just be happy with what you have and set personal goals. When I started working out I was 138-140 pounds, now I'm 160 something. It's taken 3 years and at about 5 pounds a year it's really slow, but then again I'm not going anywhere and progress is a slow process. I've avoided the weight gain shakes and cheeseburgers, one of the benefits of being an ecto is getting ripped.

And you are hot as fuck! But you know that. You'll love it even more as you get older. ..|

Enjoy it while you can, time will change everything.

I was a skinny kid. I could eat anything and everything and remained a skinny kid.

Now, it seems if I just look at food I will gain a pound.

Yep. Same here. The worst part is the harassment from the jealous fat bodies.

"Eat something" ... "You're too skinny!" "You look like a little boy!"

My favorite is when youre lying down with someone and they just keep going on about how boney you are and how uncomfortable your chest is...ugh...

I tried the stuffing myself bit as well. Pizza was my weapon of choice because that shit is fattening as hell, well for most. Exercising, protein drinks. My endurance, stamina, and strength increase but I remain skinny. At 5'11" 135-140lbs yah...

Though it always hurts to get passed over because you don't have bulgy muscles...

I don't believe my metabolim is quite an ectomorph metabolism by definition, but that's only going by my thought process, not a medical professional... but whatever, here' s my story:

I've always been naturally skinny.... in grade school and high school, "working out" never had to be a priority because I wasn't "fat."

Last October, I was weighing in at 165lbs at 6'1". I ate whatever I wanted, and I wouldn't gain weight... I'm talking fast food meals three+ times a week, drinking pop consistently, junk food, potato chips, bar food, everything. I started working out with the mentality to get "fit." Not to gain 30lbs of muscle, just to lease the unhealthy fat and bulk up in whatever method that came, keyword, naturally.

I did hire a personal trainer at the gym. It was costly, but now, I'm 152lbs (simply can't gain any more), but I feel EXPONENTIALLY better than I did when I was 165lbs, and a former fb who hadn't seen me in a while said that I looked GREAT! Changing my diet to HEALTHY foods (pre-made vegetable trays at the grocery store are a great snack to leave out during the day). No more fast food, cut down on the unhealthy sugars in pop, cut out the pre-processed microwave dinner items.... ate Healthy foods that I prepared at home, and I put the muscle on.... it changes the way you carry yourself, you feel great and the confidence it gives you makes you attractice beyond looks. I think if you work at it from a healthy diet angle, and consistently hitting the gym, your body will self-adjust and you'll get the inner-confidence you'll need to be attractive and feel attractive. Good luck!

Big +1 for that. It is PHENOMENAL what proper food will do for you. Everything else just falls into place from there. ..|

I was on a 100% organic/kosher, dairy-free diet for a few years. I cut soda out of my diet completely for the past eight years, and I still only eat organic vegetables. I was also working out, and consuming 2800-3200 calories a day for a year-and-a-half.

I was - and am - still boney.
