Anybody else refuse to tip ?

Look, if you go into a restaurant in the US, you know before you order your food that tipping is required. If you don't tip you're actually steeling service.
If you're too cheap to tip stick with fast food.

And to suggest that people who work in lower paying jobs do so because of low self-esteem is arrogant. You should be thankful that there are people willing to do those types of jobs.

I to am against tipping, but I do it so that the waitress or waiter can earn enough to live. It is not the persons fault that the law allows restaurants to pay below minimum wage. I get paid a very good wage to do my job and these people should be allowed to do the same. If it means that I have to leave a tip just so they make minimum then I do it. The sevice doesn't have to be exceptionial. If I get my meal the way I ordered it, and the server is civil to me, then they get a tip, case closed. I have only refused to leave a tip once, and that server knew exactly why they didn't get a tip, the service was truley terrible and the server actually insulted someone in my party and I made sure that the manager knew exactly why I was so upset.

Cheap @#$%^&*

As has been pointed out, as a street hooker from UCLA in Guantanamo Bay, you probably don't get many tips on the two bucks for a blow job.

I'm still trying to get my head around you having a friend.

I also don't understand the misanthropic ugliness and anger in your posts.

Do us all a fave sweetie and

I hate tipping.

It encourages waiters to treat tables who order more stuff better. When I go to Perkins at night and order a water right away, I generally get average service. When I order a soda right away, suddenly I get treated better. Imagine when I order an appetizer!

If it wasn't based on percentages, I would have no problem with it. But I can't think of a good system to replace, so alas, I am stuck paying tips.

I will always do it. I understand that people get serving jobs for the tips and more flexible hours, so I'm not going to ruin their jobs for them.

Although, I will say, it is terribly fun to get my friends who are serves all riled up by saying I never tip. They tend to go apeshit over it...

I'm not even gonna read the topic but you sir, are a moron. You don't have to tip her fucking $10+, but at least throw down a fucking dollar or two unless she never swooped by your table.

I completely understand the notion of not wanting to tip - IF THEY ACTUALLY GOT PAID. They seriously make less than fucking china sweatshop children. I don't understand why it's legal for them to get paid so far under MINIMUM WAGE (why's it called minimum wage if it's not the minimum?) if there's no laws on tipping?

Oh wow, now i get it. Because some low class individual doesn't have enough self esteem she had to lower her self to work at a low end paying job and expects me to pick up his/her slack in life ? I think not!
How do you figure low esteem? Contrary to your personal belief, to be a great waitress requires a lot of self-esteem, especially when they're dealing with assholes and people grabbing things that they shouldn't. And not everyone can go to college...

Do you hand that bitch at subway 10 bucks just because she made your a sandwich and drink ? In essence thats what waiting is. They do nothing more if not less than any other working individual. Do you tip your teachers, Macdonald employees, the bitch who opens the door for you at the bank, the hooker who takes your bags up to your room at a hotel ? So why should anybody be obligated to tip a person that dose a job a 10 year old can do ?

Are we talking an actual restaurant here or a fast food place? If it's a fast food place, then I'm with you. But...if it's an actual restaurant, then you have absolutely no clue what you're talking about. You're talking about a job that involves remembering what up to thirty different people ordered, plus their drinks, plus any salads, making sure that the order has been taken care of, making sure that the customer is happy (especially fun if they have refillable drinks or chips/bread), and usually for less than minimum wage+tips.

Seriously: Get a clue...

I never tip..but thats because being a student I hardly ever have money to tip..when i start seriously earning then i will to waiters who do their jobs. I dont particularly agree with what you did there was correct..but to each his own.

on the other hand..I find it quite entertaining how some people are totally ready to bash the person whose opinions are different than theirs with words like 'twat' 'moron' 'low-life' etc. which is really uncalled for...treating a person like he is a potent criminal because his opinions arent exactly similar to yours...but if he is hot half of the people who have criticized him would have been licking his ass..so superficial

If you didn't want my service, YOU should have cooked it yourself.
Putting it like that, you seem to take credit for the chef's work. Maybe I should starting giving the majority of my tip to the chef.

And then there are the busboys who likely too are making just minimum wage. I should tip them for having a clean table when I arrive.

Yes I'm sure waiting can be hard work, and I usually do tip accordingly. But some people here are talking like they're doing all the work in the restaurant.

if you can't afford to tip you can't afford to eat out

one can rationalize cheapness - but if you can't afford to tip you can't afford to eat out

you can always tell you have never worked for a living

I can eat out in a fancy restaurant once a while but seriously I dont think i want to tip £2-3 because I see it as the money for food for my next day

and as for as working for a living counts..I dont get where u inferred that from but I have been working from since I was 16..from giving painting tuitions to small children..to working in a bar picking up glasses..and thats why I know the importance of the money I spend..

It's all about the presentation of the question at hand. No one would be pissed if Comrad had simply said, "My friend and I had a discussion during dinner about tipping waitresses. My friend thinks it's nec to tip; however, I just feel like the waitress/waiter is performing the job they were hired to do. Why should I be required to tip them?"

Instead, Comrad called these type of workers low class losers who didn't amount to anything and were basically the scum of the earth. He also refers to everyone as a bitch, hooker, or whore. Now, I'm not really sure what "hood" the man is from, but surely anyone w/ some type of education (which he purports to have,) would have an extended vocabulary. I'm happy to help him out though. Try using person, worker, employee, individual, gentlemen, lady, or job titles when referring to workers instead of bitch, hooker, or whore.

I think Comrad is trying to replace Don Rickles with this thread. No one who tries to appear as hostile (why?) & as ignorant (typos happen, but consistently?) as this thread might suggest can be serious. But, this joke is old & has been done before. If one wishes to march to a different drummer, find your own parade! TTFN

what i don't get is why anyone would act like an absolute ASSHOLE to someone handling their food........

Don Rickles is funny. This guy isn't.

Good Lord! I wake up and it's deja vu all over again.

Where's joeslifeyork? Didn't he start all this the last time? (Or at least fed the fire?)

Don Rickles doing his routine is funny. Don Rickles calling someone a hockey puck is funny. This guy is just demeaning.

I stay home and cook - I make much better food than most restaurants and I don't have to be dependent on the wait staff. Because of this, the restaurants are making less money, since they don't have me as a customer. Furthermore, I boycott all restaurants that automatically add the tip - I consider that fraud, even if it is printed on the menu. If it is not printed on the menu and it gets added in on the bill, I subtract it out when I pay and give the tip directly to the waiter.

I don't tip a percentage - I tip based on how much time I spend at the restaurant (on the rare occasions I go), and the percentage is much higher at a cheap restaurant. I pay for the job the waiter does - not how much the food costs - those two things are not directly related. It takes the same amount of effort to deliver an expensive steak as it does to deliver a plate of pasta.

I've had friends who made $300 a night waiting tables, and so some of them can do quite well. I would enjoy eating out more if the practice of tipping were abolished and waiters were paid a decent salary. Tipping has always made me feel uncomfortable. My father does not tip at all, and so if I go out with him, I have to sneak a tip in. I especially hate having to tip at the airport - it is extremely awkward and slows down the process of getting bags checked in.
