Araucaria Appreciation Thread

Hi John! I'm home and laying low until Wednesday's payday.

Here's my favorite Carole King song, just because.

I like Pride events that aren't in June. I'm going to Pride at the Nashville Predators April 9.

But I like Pride events that are in June. I'll be in Cleveland for theirs the first weekend of June

Good Thursday morning Gary, Thad, and RM! (*8*)

Thad, I agree that Only Love Is Real is a great Carole King song, though it isn't as well known as some of her biggest hits. I don't know if you caught it, but she has a couple of personal references where she refers to her children, "childhood dreams like muddy waters, flowing through me to my son and daughters..." And I think she might be referring to her first husband Gerry Goffin when she says "maybe I could have spared you giving your youth to me..." If you follow her bio, it's clear that love wasn't kind to Carole.

Gary, I hope you're having nice weather out there. It cooled down here after a couple of 90 degree days earlier. But we're supposed to have a big rain storm starting tomorrow and going through Saturday. I signed up to volunteer at the MCC booth at Pridefest on Saturday, when they say there's an 80% chance of rain. But the weather is supposed to be sunny and only 75 degrees on Sunday, when we'll have the parade. I kind of wish I had signed up for the booth on Sunday, but when I made the decision it was too far out to know what the weather was going to be like.

Hello Johnnie thanks for writing
I hope you have a pleasant Friday later buddy

Good Saturday afternoon/evening, Paul and Frankie! (*8*)

Frankie, I hope you're having a great weekend.

Paul, I'm glad you had a great concert last Sunday. So Maundy Thursday is your favorite day of Holy Week. That's interesting. Is it because of the musical selection played that night?

Well, I unexpectedly have the day free, following the announcement that today's Pridefest activities have been canceled due to the weather. That's funny, because although it has been cloudy all day, the rain has stayed away so far. But we did have a hell of a deluge last night, with the airport officially getting 3 1/2" of rain, and a lot of wind. They probably figured that nobody would show up, and last night's storm probably left parts of the grounds flooded, and tents and canopies were likely blown over, so it would have been extra effort to set up today. And no doubt they were worried about electronics getting wet, etc. So I've been Jubbing and trying to fill up my afternoon with activities.

But tomorrow should be good, with clear and sunny weather and the temp only 75 degrees. The Parade is tomorrow, so that's the big event, but the festival will be crowded, but should be fun.

(*8*) Good morning, John

Hope you did not get rained on

Hi John! I hope the change of plans didn't bother you much.

Thursday's hockey game was OK but I was rooting for the wrong team. It was cold that night.

I'm going to Lalah Hathaway's concert Tuesday and to NYC for The Kelly Clarkson Show Thursday. Then nothing much until April 7, when I fly to Nashville for Pride Night at the Predators. The Predators are currently the hottest team in the NHL and squeaked out a 1-0 win last night over Detroit.

Good Tuesday morning Thad, RM, and Gary! (*8*)

Pridefest went well on Sunday, with great weather for the Parade and exhibition. I went to a small "interfaith" service in an old theater, if you can call a service with MCC and Unitarian Universalists interfaith. There was a small mishap at the beginning of the parade when one of the motorcycles lost control, and a couple of people got a little banged up. Fortunately nobody seemed to be seriously injured, but the parade was delayed while paramedics had to check out a couple of people.

Other than that, the parade went well, with the usual contingents, including the LGBTQ+ public high school group, the Palm Beach County School System itself, the sheriffs, county government, local politicians, local LGBTQ+ bank employees, etc. I thought these presences spoke volumes, as in we're with you, we're not going to let a bunch of politicians in Tallahassee push us around.

The Pridefest was crowded as usual. I went around and checked out all the booths. It had been slightly cool early in the morning, but it got a bit warmer than predicted in the daytime, with temps going up into the 80s instead of the predicted 70s. I checked with the MCC booth, but they said they were covered for the day. I wanted to get some lunch there, but the food lines were ridiculously long, and the heat was starting to get to me. So I left and ate at a local restaurant in the area. It turned out there were two older gay couples sitting at a nearby table, and I found myself getting annoyed by one of the guys constantly talking.

Thad, I guess you're going to the Lalah Hathaway concert tonight and the Kelly Clarkson show Thursday. I hope you have a good time at both.

Yup! I've been listening to Lalah Hathaway's songs and I think I'll like tonight. Smooth jazz with sublety.

I slept late today and am enjoying coffee and cereal. I really should have cooked brunch, since the refrigerator and pantry are full. Maybe tomorrow!

I'm glad Palm Beach Pride was fun. I went to Fort Lauderdale Pride once and was happy to get gifts at the Florida Panthers table there. I used the carryall bag until it tore. I still have the pencil.

Good Thursday morning, Thad and Andrew! (*8*)

I'm glad you got to check out Ft. Lauderdale Pride and get memorabilia at the Florida Panthers table. I'll have to go down to the Ft. Lauderdale and Wilton Manors Pridefests (I believe they have two separate celebrations). It's funny, they're only 35 miles south of me, but I don't get down there that often.

Well, Easter weekend is coming up. I've been asked to do a couple of readings at the Good Friday service at MCC tomorrow night. And of course they'll have the big service on Sunday.

Hello Johnnie , thanks for writing

I hope you have a pleasant weekend my Friend

I also hope everything goes well for you

Happy Easter! Hope all is well.

The episode of Kelly Clarkson I saw taped will air Monday 4/1, But it'll be a surprise to me since the segments are taped out of order and Marcus King, the musical guest, was not even there. I have no idea how he sounds. From his Wikipedia page, I am afraid. (I could check YouTube, but why spoil the surprise?!)

Sheryl Crow didn't even perform. She's promoting a new album, but apparently not that much.
