(*8*) Good afternoon

No games this week. Need to find something to watch, BUT not basketball. I hold basketball to be the stupidest game of all and that is all that is broadcast for the next few months  Maybe I'll get a lot of things done on Saturdays now.

Good Thursday evening, Gary and Frankie! (*8*)

Gary, I know that they'll have conference championships on Saturday, like the SEC, Big !0, etc. But I guess I'm a bad sports fan. The Gators are finished, and I lose all interest once my favorite team is out of it. As for basketball, I find the games are often too intense for me to watch, with their fast pace and frequent lead changes.

I take it your rock racking is not the Japanese variety, where they make designs of parallel rows that look artistic no matter how they do them. Except when I do the same thing, it always looks like a mess!

Frankie, I'm glad that I won't have to do that much mowing over the winter. I love having the yard space around my house, which is why I can plant all the fruit trees in my back yard. But I'm getting older, and it's getting harder to do all the mowing and upkeep I have to do every year. I don't want to hire a lawn maintenance company, because they'll hack up everything and kill my fruit trees and the other wonderful plants I have. I've seen them do it before.

Hi Johnnie , where I live we don't have a big garden , just a 11 ft long one ( like a wide hall )

We've got some Flower plants , I prefer trimming them myself , sometimes my uncles , when they visit they feel like mowing and trimming but they leave everything all chopped off , like mutilated .
They lack the skill for plants .
I wish you had somebody to help you with the mowing in the future my friend

Thanks again for writing to me John , I hope that your weekend is a cool one

This weekend I drove up to visit an old friend's 70th birthday party in New Port Richey, just north of Tampa. There was a nice dinner, and I got to meet my ex and his husband. The next morning I went out to have breakfast with my ex, and we got caught up with things. He ended up talking mostly about his family and things that happened. They were people I knew when we were together, and I generally agree with his assessment of most of them.

I put up my Christmas tree yesterday, and I still have to string the garlands on it. It's an old scraggly-looking artificial tree, but it does the job. I'm going to try to mail out all my Christmas cards early next week. As slow as the Postal Service is these days, you'd almost better mail your cards by mid-December, or don't bother, they might not get there in time.

Well, I'm going to try for my Covid shot later this morning, for the second time. Hopefully this time they'll know how to cover it with Medicare Part B. I called ahead to make sure they had it all set. It's a good thing too, because they said they couldn't confirm my coverage. It turned out that what they were doing was entering my name incorrectly. On my card my name ends with the suffix III, and they apparently were putting it in the wrong place, so hopefully it will go smoothly next time. Remember that Walgreen's screwed it up.

I'll be doing some celebrating this weekend, with two banquets scheduled. Tomorrow night the Rare Fruit Council will have their Holiday Dinner, followed by the Old Farts Club having their Holiday Dinner on Saturday. I will certainly be stuffed.

Good Thursday morning, Frankie and Andrew! (*8*)

I hear you on your uncles cutting and butchering your flowers, Frankie! It's surprising how many people just don't get that the whole point of mowing, pruning, and weeding is to facilitate the growth and health of the plants you want to showcase, not to generally cut everything down.

Hello Johnnie , thanks for writing !!!
It's nice to know you had a nice weekend and that you and your ex are in good terms , that's grown up and healthy

I hope you get your vaccine shot this time , I also hope that you have a fun weekend at the pals' reunions , don't eat too much haha

Take care buddy , and have a pleasant Thursday evening later

Update: I got the 2023 Covid booster shot this morning with no trouble. I think it went so well because I had called ahead yesterday and got the coverage issues straightened out.

Good Thursday afternoon, Paul! (*8*)

I've noticed that most of us haven't posted much in the last week or so. I guess everyone's busy with the season and holiday preparations, etc. As for me, I just got started on mailing out my Christmas cards yesterday, and I should finish today. I had a couple of big dinners over the weekend, with the Rare Fruit Council on Friday night, and with the Old Farts Club on Saturday.

And there's the non-holiday stuff I have to do. On Monday I had the annual termite inspection of my house, and fortunately, there's no sign of the little buggers. I had to pay a good chunk of money for it, but the upside is that they'll come out and take care of it if termites do show up in the next year with no charge. If I had to have the place fumigated without the coverage, it would be a HUGE expense.

Weatherwise, it's less than ideal here. The temps are somewhat warmish, but the area is socked in with several days of cloudy, windy, and rainy weather which will last through the weekend. We've got flood watches and wind advisories, etc. The sun is supposed to return on Monday, but it will be cooler, and remain windy.

Good afternoon, John. (*8*)
Wow it's cool that you send actual Christmas cards! I think I'm sending a couple of them this week... which I haven't done in years!
That termite inspection must be expensive of course... but at least you get some benefits from the company.

Hello Johnnie , thanks for writing
How did your weekend meetings go ?
Mailing cards must be such a task , the recipients will surely appreciate your gesture

Hopefully . termites don't show up in your property the next year
Time flies , and seasons happen so fast , there'll be better weather soon

I hope you have a pleasant Friday later buddy

Hi John! I'm home and will be around for the next month.

The trips were fine. Not perfect...a bus breakdown on the Pennsylvania Turnpike on the last lap of the journey delayed my homecoming a few hours. And I was in Las Vegas just a bit early for the two major resort openings (Durango and Fontainebleau)...so I'll have to go back. Early reviews say the Durango is gorgeous.

I have frequent flier miles now. So there's that.

Tomorrow I'm finishing my Christmas shopping.

Hope you're well and happy. And I hope you don't think I was sore with you...that couldn't be.

(*8*) Good afternoon, John

I have not felt like posting lately. Hope all is well with you. We are having great Fall weather still. Not too hot and not too cold.

You never commented on Florida State being overlooked for the playoffs despite a perfect record. Guess you are like me concerning UCLA. Usually have nothing to say about them, just hope they lose.

Are you ready for Christmas? I have no family and my friends have moved away, so nothing to prepare for. Will be having Christmas dinner with a church family, otherwise well be sitting home watching football. o_O

Only got one Christmas card so far. Last year received about 6. Send 8 cards and 5 ecards a week ago. If I do not receive more cards that means I do not have to send any next year. :)

I heard the East Coast is having storms. Hope they stay away from you.

Be safe

Good Sunday morning Paul, Frankie, Thad, Gary, and RM! (*8*)

Gary, actually we've been socked in with the bad weather since Tuesday, with lots of rain, clouds, and wind. And I woke up this morning to see that my 15 foot cashew tree had been toppled by last night's storms, for the second time. It first happened last year when hurricane Ian blew it down. It's supposed to finally clear up later in the day, but it's supposed to get cold tonight, with lows in the 50s and highs around 70, but still breezy, which means a wind chill. But the temps aren't supposed to rise that much later in the week, which is different from the usual quick rebound back up into the 80s we typically see right after a cold snap.

I got my Christmas cards sent out, mostly to my ex, friends I knew when I lived in Tampa, and cousins scattered all over. As for receiving them, so far I've got 0 cards in the mail, 1 email card, and 1 handed to me at the Genealogical Society where I volunteer. As for what I'll do on Christmas, I don't know yet. I have no family or close friends nearby, and it might just come down to whether the neighbors across the street or the Venezuelan lady from the Senior Center invite me over. I'm good with whatever happens.

You're generally right that I don't care about what happens to FSU, though I have to admit being somewhat puzzled that they weren't invited to the big dance with a perfect record. To tell you the truth, I was preparing for my trip to my friend's birthday party north of Tampa that weekend, so I didn't hear anything until they announced the finalists on NPR news headlines while I was driving up Sunday. They just announced the teams, which required me to try to glean the results of about 6 games played the day before in an instant.

Thad, I envy you taking those trips all over the country, and it sounds like you had a good time. That makes me think I should plan a couple of trips next year, while I'm still fairly young and healthy, and I can afford to do it. I have some cousins that are getting older, and the time may come when I can't travel or they're no longer around.

Oh my about the cashew tree! Mother Nature can be so wild.

I have no Christmas plans either, but maybe one of my brothers will invite me. They're often busy, and that's OK.

I'm home until the end of January, then a weekend in Cleveland. I am planning to go to Pride Night at the Nashville Predators on April 9. Nashville is such fun.

Hope your lead-up to Christmas is all good. No more high winds!

Hello Johnnie , thanks for taking your time to write to me

You're very considerate to take effort and time to send Xmas Cards to so many people , that speaks loud about what kind of person you are

Well , in my case I'd rather travel somewhere on July or November ( I don't like travelling in busy seasons such as Xmas )

Have a pleasant Monday later , I hope you have a beautiful Christmas reunion next weekend as well

Good Friday morning, Frankie and Thad! (*8*)

I got invited by the people across the street for a get-together Christmas Eve, which should be good. As for Christmas Day, I don't have any plans. The Venezuelan lady might or might not invite me to be with her family, but I'm kind of feeling like I'd prefer a quiet day after the party the night before. Besides, gift-giving is such a personal thing, and I'd feel weird watching someone else's family exchange presents.

Well, I just realized that they pick up yard waste and clippings on Mondays, and this Monday is Christmas, and next Monday is New Year's Day, and they don't come on major holidays. So that means it will be three weeks until they collect. So I'll wait until after New Year's to cut back my cashew tree so it will be small enough to prop up. And hopefully it can get established this time before another big wind takes it down. Not to mention that I have a lot of other yard work to do, but that's going to be put on hold too.

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas, and that you get to celebrate the way you wish!

Hello again Johnnie

Thanks again for writing to me My Friend

I do hope that we have a very memorable and cool Christmas , take care buddy  :rb:
