Araucaria Appreciation Thread

Good midday Tuesday, RM and Frankie! (*8*)

I've been doing this, that, and the other. We're having nice weather, with warm days and chilly nights, so I'm trying to get out and enjoy it.

Well, I'm going through my father's old box of photos and letters, and so far I haven't found the picture that lady wanted. But in the meantime I've been reading letters and checking, do I have this person in my family tree, etc.? There were a couple of letters from a great aunt to my father written in the 1970s. She had seven children, and in one place she talked about all of them, giving birthdays and all. So I opened up ancestry to see if I had all that info. But then I saw a name for a husband, and I said, wasn't that guy married to her sister? I checked it out, and yes, the old bastard had 3 or 4 kids with one wife, and left her to marry her younger sister. Yep, you do find scandals when you do your family genealogy.

But that great aunt was a Jehovah's Witness. And she wrote page after page of foreboding from scriptures in the Old Testament, and things that are to happen, blah, blah, blah. After reading through all that, my reaction was, "OK, what's the POINT of all this?" And she wrote about how Jesus has been ruling since 1914. Funny, I hadn't noticed. But really, I think the problem is that Jehovah's Witnesses paint themselves into corners with their prophecies, and when they don't come to pass, they do all these convoluted somersaults to say the prophecy was true, and why we don't see it. Why can't they say we misinterpreted it or misunderstood it, or even we got it wrong?

Hello Johnnie

Thanks for writing , it's great that the weather is getting better

I hope you have a pleasant and fun day later buddy

Yeah, I woke up in the middle of the night, and I figured that I would get up and do things. It's better than lying in bed and having my mind go over things that are unpleasant, like old memories and disappointments in life, should I have zigged instead of zagged, etc. Totally unproductive. I had fresh fruit and oatmeal. I'm saving the coffee until later when I go out to a restaurant for breakfast with some of the guys. Meanwhile, I'll probably go back to bed.

Good morning, John (*8*)
It happens to me, too. Those nights when I wake up before 5am... I like turning the radio on. You can listen to real gems on a classical radio station at 5am :ROFLMAO:
Sometimes I get up and do the dishes. Or write some music. Or watch porn.

I hope you have a good day. Enjoy your breakfast out :coffee::p

Good Friday morning/afternoon Paul, Loner, and Frankie! (*8*)

Well, I seem to have gotten a second wind about cleaning and straightening up around the house. After going for years with nobody coming to visit, I now have the dentist I had a fling with last year wanting to come over for some fun. His place was immaculate, and I've been putting him off, because in comparison, my home is a pig sty. Seems he can't have me over to his place anymore, because he says his brother is there now. Also, my cousin and her husband said they're stopping by in April on their way to boarding a cruise ship.

So, for the last couple of days I've been sweeping and mopping the floors, taking one room at a time. Last year I had a fantastic mango crop, in fact far more mangos than I could ever eat or give away. And I found out the hard way that when mangos go bad, they turn black and they ooze this tar (yes, tar). And I had a bunch of them sitting on my terrazzo floors. Terrazzo is beautiful, but a big flaw is that they easily stain. So Wednesday I got on my knees and scrubbed those stained places on the floor in the Florida room (that's known as the family room in the rest of the world), and I did the same in the dining room yesterday. First I had to mop the area to get the floor wet. Then I scrubbed the spots with a brush. Finally I scoured the stains with a copper pad on my hands and knees. Yes, I greatly diminished the stains, but they are still clearly visible after all that. Now I'm debating whether I should take drastic steps like using chlorine bleach. Whether that will do the trick or make it even worse by making the treatment overly obvious I don't know. Probably I'll just try one small place first so it won't ruin the whole floor if it doesn't work out.

Hello Johnnie thanks for writing to me

It looks like you've got lots of housework to do , so you're back with that slippery dentist , I wish you good luck

I can't believe easter is within four weeks , time feels speeded up which makes me feel stressed out

Well , the city is always busy on weekends with people partying at night clubs near my zone , but they play cheesy mainstream music

I've had a monotonous Saturday just like every day , the DirecTv service here used to have good radio stations ... Stingray radio , one could listen from 40's 50's Big Band music ( which I enjoyed when it was available ) I miss listening to the 70's , 80's , 90's Radio Stations

All I do to enjoy music is to watch youtube videos in my tv , do some singing and dancing and that's it but I am alright with my own company , I've always been a loner from early childhood and I'm used to being this way , people tend to make me nerveracked with their predictable patterns , so I'm better off alone

Have a Fun Sunday My Friend

Good evening, John. I hope you're doing ok despite all the house work. I like my house to be clean and tidy but I often have trouble keeping up with it. On a good day I can make my house look like a modest yet cozy place. But if people come unexpected... uh-oh... wish me luck

Good Thursday morning Frankie, Paul, and Andrew! (*8*)

Well, it looks like my Writers' group might have come to an end. One person can no longer commit because she's busy with other things. Which leaves it to me and one very prolific writer, and I find that I can't bring myself to read and comment on all his stuff. I just can't seem to commit to spending all that time and cognitive effort on someone else's stuff right now, so he doesn't want to schedule meetings. Oh well. I don't really feel like I have anything I want to write anything or work on it right now. I find that for me to keep interested in writing, I have to have a lot of novelty and change and new things happening to keep me stimulated, and none of that is happening right now. Maybe I just need to take a break from it, but the Writer's Group wasn't conducive to me saying that I need to step back for awhile.

Yesterday I got PMs from two other guys on Just Us Boys, one that said he was going to deactivate his account now that I shared my private email address with him, and another guy that said he couldn't stand the pornographic nature of the site, though he didn't come right out and say he was going to quit. I however, find the porn interesting and exciting. :-< I enjoy corresponding with you guys on here.

Weatherwise, it's gotten warmer. We had a big storm Sunday, with lots of sharp lightning and quite a deluge. We usually don't get that kind of weather until the summer rainy season. Yesterday it was cloudy, rainy, and drizzly. It's supposed to clear up and be dry for the next couple of days, though.

I'm trying to do yard work and also clean my floors. Since it was raining yesterday, I decided to sweep and mop. Did I want to do my living room or my kitchen? It would be nice to have a clean living room for the guests, but I decided it was important to do my kitchen, since that is where I prepare and cook my food. I scrubbed the floors, and then mopped the hall with the mop water. So I at least got that done.

Hello Johnnie , Thanks for writing

About your writer's group , well what I could say is that things have to come to an end eventually , you can write all by yourself whenevr you feel motivated

I like porn from an early age , I understand that some people find it repulsive , but why to register in a place where you know you'll see pornographic content in the first place ? Anyway , each to their own

It's good that you cleaned your kitchen so far

Have a pleasant weekend My Friend

On Friday night I went to see a woman doing a performance of Carole King's music down south of here. She was a good singer and performer, and faithfully reproduced Carole's work. Though the tickets were rather pricey, as in they cost more than double what I'd normally be willing to pay for what was essentially a cover band. I did buy her CD for $20 more dollars, but I figure it will be something I will play in my car for years going forward, and I was starting to get tired of the CDs I usually listen to.

To get there I had to travel on I-95 through Palm Beach County south to Pompano Beach in Broward County. Every time I go down that way I hit a traffic jam starting in Boca Raton at the south end of Palm Beach County, and it continues into Broward. Coincidentally or not, that is where the toll lanes on the left start on I-95. Supposedly offering the toll option eases traffic flow, but apparently studies show it doesn't really relieve congestion. Personally I think it's a scheme the state DOT uses to trick motorists into paying what they should essentially be providing for free. My saying is that Florida never met a toll road they didn't like, they built them all over the state. Putting toll lanes on interstates is probably a sneaky way to get to the point where you'll have to pay tolls if you want to drive on them at all. Never mind that the interstate system was originally conceived to be free highway driving. And besides, I've noticed that traffic backs up on the toll lanes too.

(*8*) Good morning, John

My internet has been out for most of the time the last two days. Several years ago, it was off so much, Frontiers cut my bill by 50% for 6 months to make amends.

Since we observe Mountain Standard time all year in this area, my Dish Net programing schedule shows the same time as mine instead being an hour behind.

I am getting a housecleaning service and will be interviewing a prospect this afternoon. Keeping this place clean has become a real chore for me.

The weather remains perfect. Cool at night and warm during the day.

More and more toll roads and lanes are popping up all over Southern California. It has not done anything to relieve traffic backups.

I haven't been to a concert in many years. The local Indian casino has tribute bands often, but I have not been to one.

Well, it's off to pew duty soon.

Good Wednesday morning, Gary! (*8*)

It's good that you're having great weather. It has been sunny with warm, but not too warm, days, and mild nights here. I hope you were able to get the house cleaner, which should make life a little easier for you.

I'm sorry you're experiencing issues with your internet. People that have Frontier swear at them.

Hello Johnnie thanks for writing
I'm not allowed to have cats in this house
I love cats , I managed to have one for 13 years from 2006 til 2019
One day when I leave the place I live in I will have the pets they never allowed me to have ...

I hope that you have a fun and cool day later buddy

(*8*) Good morning, John and have a good Fri-Yay

Good Sunday morning Eaglex, Gary, Frankie, Andrew, and Paul! Happy St. Paddy's everyone! (*8*)

Thanks for stopping in, Eaglex! I'd love to see that hot man waiting for me in the shower! :luv2:

Gary, it seems that the Ides of March and the assassination of Julius Caesar has become little more than a source of amusement for us moderns, probably due to the great separation of time, distance, and culture from us. It would probably be good for me to go back and read up on it, to see what that was all about.

Frankie, I'm sorry you can't have cats, or pets in general, I assume, where you live. Cats can give you lots of love and affection.

The weather is getting very warm, almost too warm for this early in the year. It was 87 at the airport yesterday, and very humid. We're supposed to have a couple more days like this, then it's supposed to rain Monday PM. After that it's supposed to cool down, with lows in the upper 50s and lower 60s and highs in the 70s for the rest of the week, probably winter's last hurrah. But it's supposed to rain again on Friday, and I hope it doesn't extend into the weekend. Because we have our local Pridefest on Saturday and Sunday, with the parade on Sunday, and the festival in the park both days, with booths and performers. I know it's supposed to be in June, but the weather is ungodly hot then, with a brutal sun, miserable heat, and horrible humidity. It's better to have it now.
