Araucaria Appreciation Thread

Good Thursday morning, Frankie and Thad! (*8*)

Thad, I'm glad you were able to take in Pride in Asbury Park. The local Pride back in March was as big as ever, but I noticed the corporate sponsorship was way down, with the beer tent noticeably absent.

Frankie, I hope you're doing well.

I'm doing OK, though I must admit that I'm starting to feel some anxiety over some financial issues. Hopefully I'll be able to get the problems cleared up soon.

This sort of reminds me of the way a lot of science is done, like the Master's Thesis project that was out of the "does it really matter" vein that I got stuck on over 30 years ago.

Hello Johnnie , I hope your financial issues don't overwhelm you and you can find a solution

Iam doing ok but the past two days I've been feeling kind of weakened ... I hope I feel better later today

Have a plesant day My Friend

Happy Friday!

Is the outlet mall near Wellington still open? In one of my past lives the company I worked for had an outlet store there. But since then the firm was sold and almost all their outlets closed.

I never got to visit that store, but I met the manager, and did get to visit stores in NC, SC, AL, CA...and helped out in NJ, PA, and NY

Good Friday morning, Thad and Frankie! (*8*)

Thad, I don't believe there's an outlet mall in Wellington per se, but they do have a large regional mall out there, and a number of smaller shopping centers. Maybe the store was in one of those places.

Frankie, I hope you're feeling better, and that things are going well for you.

Looks like the Panthers are in one hell of a fight for the NHL championship.

Yesterday I finally heard from the tree company after about three weeks of silence. They're coming out this afternoon to remove the three Australian pines and the pencil tree. Yay!

Well, I went to the dentist on Tuesday, and she did the final section on my teeth. Now I have to wait three weeks for the crowns to come in, and pay the second half of the charges for it all. I think I've made up my mind, that after this, I'm going to tell her that I'm not doing anything else with my teeth for at least six months unless I have an emergency. There's been plenty done already, and I'm just going to have to move on to other priorities. My life is more than dental work.

Right now I'm finding that I have to somehow keep a balance between keeping informed, and taking care of my mental health. There are some good discussions in CE & P on what's happening right now, but I find that sometimes I have to shut out the outside world and take care of myself.

Hello Johnnie thanks for writing . I'm doing same old , the environment where I live doesn't help much to one's well being

I hope your dental work turns out fine , so you can focus on other priorities

Taking care of one's mental health is pretty important , look after your self , make plans for your future

Take care and have a pleasant weekend My Friend

Have you ever experienced the feeling that something was the right thing to do once it was done? I had that feeling yesterday after the tree guys removed my pencil tree and Australian pines. I felt like a weight has been lifted. It did cost some money, but I feel it's over and done with, unlike all that dental work, which just feels like I'm going in a dark hole. They'll have to come out next week with the stump grinder, but it's basically done.

Good Tuesday night, @Araucaria!

I'm sorry about your dental woes.

I just quit my job...I couldn't take it anymore. I was afraid I would snap on someone if I didn't leave now. So it was for the best.

Hope everything else is going well with you, my friend.

Good Wednesday morning Eaglex, Loner, and Frankie! (*8*)

Eaglex, I hope you can get a new job soon. I hear you on having to quit where you worked. You want to hold on until you get another job lined up, but sometimes it gets so intolerable that you have no choice but to leave.

I'm going to have to call my dentist because one of the teeth she is having crowned is hurting me. I did get a prescription pain killer from my periodontist that wipes out the pain for about a half a day, but this shouldn't be happening. I don't know what'll be done, but the only thing I can think of is that they'll have to do a root canal, which I hope doesn't happen. Ugh! ](*,)

I had a little surprise the other day. My cashew tree dropped a bright yellow fruit (I think they're sometimes red) which I didn't know it was even growing. The cashew apple is a fruit about the size of a lemon, with the "nut" on the end. I tried the fruit which was OK but not a big deal. I purposely avoided the nut, since it supposedly has the same oil in it as poison ivy, and apparently you have to roast it to get rid of the oil to make it edible. I suppose I'll do it to see if it's any good.

Hi! I'm on the train from Joliet, Illinois, to Chicago. Ostensibly I'm heading to Pride Night at the White Sox. It's raining, not hard but enough to get wet. Here's hoping Chicago Southside is dryer.

Hello Johnnie , your teeth issue seems aggravating and neverending , I hope you can have it solved at a good professional , be patient

I hope you have a pleasant day later My Friend

Well...the White Sox game was rained out! So I went bar-hopping and came back to the hotel.

I'll be leaving tomorrow for a few days in Pittsburgh.

Good Thursday afternoon, Thad and Frankie! (*8*)

Thad, I hope you enjoy the Pride Parade in New York.

I had a weird day today. I drove to MCC to donate a few items and help them with their food pantry today. After sitting around for 45 minutes without anyone showing up, I called the guy who runs the food pantry. "I canceled it today because of all the rain. Did you see the weatherman said we'd have a lot of rain this week." WHAT????? There were no storms, just some light rain going in, and it had cleared up by the time I got there. I wouldn't have even thought about it. I mean, if you canceled every event when they predicted rain here in Florida, there wouldn't be any events. My biggest concern with the rain is hoping I get enough so that I don't have to go out and water my plants. There really wasn't that much rain.

The pain in my tooth is finally subsiding. I usually don't feel it too much, just a slight discomfort even now and then, for the tooth letting me know it's still there. I guess the real test will be when I get the permanent crowns next week.

Good evening, John

I'm not really surprised by the "rain" incident the other day. The weather news are often exagerated, and many people bite it. Like my mom.

I hope your tooth pain is over by now!

Hi John!
I had a change of plans this weekend. My favorite musician, Bright Light Bright Light (Rod Thomas), did a Love + Pride show at Joe's Pub in NYC Friday. It was so good. He had a few special guests ..Broadway and TV star Claybourne Elder came on stage to do "the Elton John part" in All In The Name. Because Elton wasn't there.Elton didn't appear in the original video, either, although it's his voice there ..

Since I think one trip to NYC per weekend is enough, I didn't go to Pride today

Hola Johnnie , thanks for writing but this year has been the most horrible year of my life until late June ( the worst month ever within 2025 )
I only hope that in the 2nd half of this year things change . If you want to know what's going on you can send me a PM , but if you can't that's ok . I guess I'd rather not ruminate into hurtful recent memories .

Good luck with the permament crowns My Friend , be very finicky about the procedures they perform so you get a well made pro final result .

Thanks for remembering about me , I hope you have a pleasant week My Friend. Enjoy your summer

Good Thursday morning, Thad, Paul, and Frankie! (*8*)

Thad, I see that you enjoyed seeing Bright Light Bright Light in New York. I'm sure you've been to Pride before in New York, so missing it wasn't that big a deal. Though right now I feel attending Pride events is more important than ever, given all the political crap that's going on.

Paul, I know what you mean by the weather news being exaggerated, the National Weather Service has stepped up their game recently, often warning us about typical rain and storms that used not to be a big deal. That food pantry guy moved here from out of state, so he's not familiar with how Florida weather works. We're just in that time of year when we can get hit by thunderstorms at any time.

Frankie, I'm sorry to hear that this year has been so horrible for you. I hope it gets better. So far this year I've been getting hit by one thing after another. I'll send you a PM.

Things haven't changed a lot since my last post. I'm scheduled for my permanent crowns tomorrow morning. Hopefully that will be the end of my teeth issues for awhile.
