Good Friday morning, Thad!
Mango season has just about wrapped up, but not to worry. My guava tree and my carambola/starfruit tree have both started to give me ripe fruit for breakfast. I need to get out there and give all my fruit trees their midsummer fertilizer. I can only use my no-nitrogen fertilizer at this time of year, which is fine, since I now have mostly mature trees, and I certainly don't want to encourage them to get any bigger. Though I still have several young saplings still struggling out there which could probably use the nitrogen boost. It seems that with my soil and climate, everything either struggles until it gives up, or has explosive growth like crazy, no in between.
Well, I did go to the dentist this week. I was pissed at them because they changed my appointment from Thursday to Wednesday without contacting me first. I went ahead and took the Wednesday appointment, since I happened to be free. Of course you can never guarantee that.
So, I told the dentist that my tooth wasn't as bad, but it still hurts at times. So she didn't do the permanent cementing, but filed down the crown further, which was not a pleasant experience, with an appointment to come back in two weeks. Since then, my tooth hasn't been hurting, but there is enough feeling there, as the tooth is on standby, as in, I don't hurt now, but I'll be sure to let you know the instant I feel pain. So, I'm hoping it will go down, so I won't have to get that root canal.
Interestingly enough, the appointment change left me open to volunteer at the food pantry. Maybe that's why it got changed at the higher level, who knows? Anyway, the pantry was actually open, so I helped put together packages for the clients. As it turned out, all the younger gay guys showed up to help, and oh, I overheard some juicy gossip from them. I'm finding out that it's like As the World Turns with that crowd. As for the guy that runs the food pantry, I wondered why the weather was OK that morning, when there were showers around that morning, but not OK the other day when he insisted that it was going to storm but it didn't. I figured he just doesn't want to tell us what was really going on.
And yesterday I got a strange request. As I was leaving the food pantry, a young guy, a real cutie, drove up in his pickup. He asked me to go to some courthouse hearing for him. As I understood it, he was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon, with them claiming his permit had expired, but he insisted that it hadn't. Apparently he was in the vicinity of a local Pride Fest, which I suspect was what this was all about, they probably wouldn't have bothered anywhere else. They were probably justifiably worried that some crazy would attack. Anyway, he's a sweet guy, though he seems a bit childlike, and made me think, how well do I know him anyway? That made me realize that I really know very little about the law around concealed weapon permits, and besides, the other young guys know him a lot better, so they could vouch for him at the hearing.
As far as the Comcast bill, it came out about $21 lower than the guy on the phone quoted to me. It's still a bit more than I'd like to pay, but I'll try to swing with it for now.
