are democrats going to seize the moment?

At least two of them are out there seizing the moment and the crowd sizes just keep growing.

Key point here:

But we can count on the Dems not to exploit this.

And the folks back home are NOT having their shit.

In testy exchanges, town hall attendees pressed congressional Democrats to stop trying to strike compromises with Republicans, to adopt a stance that matches the gravity of the moment and to cease using court rulings or the midterms as their solution. What many hoped could have been a unifying force — a principle-driven government shutdown — exposed deep cleavages in a party still smarting from widespread losses last fall.

Dems expecting to be pitching for 2026 are finding out that their voters aren't happy with the lack of leadership and real pushback.

In Tucson, today:

Original projected attendance was 3,000 people.

23,000 showed up.

You know why thee Dems lost? this is why. At the beginning of the year Biden signed this.

As a consequence, my mother, who's a retired teacher and widow of a veteran got a check for $25,000.00 and an increase of $2000.00 in survivors benefits from Social Security.

NOBODY KNEW ABOUT THIS

and now, Toad is getting the credit.

So now let's see how Musk can claw this back.

A bit of good news for Democrats...

Most of the time, a 14% gap loss in a race would be bad news for Democrats.

These are the results from the special election in Florida 1 yesterday:

However, this is the same district that an obnoxious sexual predator nepo baby (named Gaetz, not Trump) won in Nov, 2024 by 32% points.

In most cases, special elections and non-Presidential elections favor Republicans. However in the election yesterday in Florida 1, Democrats got 51% of the November 2024 voters to return for a special election. Republicans only got 36% of their Nov voters to return to the polls. Escambia county- a Florida panhandle county that hasn't voted for a Democrat since the early 1960s, went blue yesterday. This indicates motivation on the part of Democrats and disgruntled independents.

Republicans are freaking out.

The other special election in Florida 6 had similar outcomes. Republicans won yesterday by 14%.

In Nov, 2024 Mike "the number got sucked into my phone" Waltz [R-FL] was re-elected by 33%.

In terms of turnout, Democrats got 58% of their Nov voters to turn out for the special election yesterday. Republicans turned out only 39% of their Nov voters.

36,000 people turned up for Bernie and AOC.

These two are likely the only thing that might save the Democrats as a viable party.

I wasn't sure where to put this. So today, after submitting my mandatory yearly supplication to a vicious mass delusion, I spoke with my Mom and Brother. It seems they are in the process of installing solar generating capacity to defray the farm's not inconsiderable power costs.

This isn't costing them a dime. It's being paid for by legislation Biden passed and implemented to make the power grid in rural areas greener.

Once again.

NO ONE KNEW ABOUT THIS!

It would be impossible for me to express my frustration about the Democratic Party's practical competence.

They are lucky.

There are many stories out there about TrumpCo. not honouring the Biden grants for this and farmers being stuck for the full cost.

Schumer on the Democratic response to Trump's shakedown of Harvard:

"We sent him a very strong letter just the other day asking eight very strong questions."

And this is why the Dems look complicit or ineffective at best.

Meanwhile:

At 6 AM this morning, @corybooker.com and @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social
sat down on the Capitol steps to have "a real conversation about the dangerous situation we confront in America."

Hundreds showed up to join them.

The Dems have to get out into the fucking streets.

And Pritzker is publicly telliing the Dems to shape the fuck up and find their balls.

And of course Fetterman is one of those that I would be most concerned would vote for this confirmation.

He seems to becoming more and more erratic and volatile.

And of course Fetterman is one of those that I would be most concerned would vote for this confirmation.

He seems to becoming more and more erratic and volatile.

There was an article a while back from one of the many staffers who have left in the past year because of Fetterman's behavior. The article was in the tone of, "He needs an intervention".

There's an old joke about the Capitol: "If you want a friend in Washington, get a dog."

At this point, I think Fetterman's dog wants him gone, too.

I am fully on-side with people's struggle with health and know from family experience that strokes can be catastrophic in 1000 differnt ways and degrees.

But really?

Politicians should take on board from the outset that this job isn't about them and their ego driven need to be loved or revered.

There should be some kind of benchmark performance level they agree to meet. It is like the Congress rep that turned up in a care home last year.

The last time I saw Fettterman on Colbert, I was struck by the change and wishing that he would just make a graceful exit to take on a role that would be less taxing and constantly focused on so many negative issues.

He has decided not to be the best partner in his own mental or physical health and it is time for others to exert actual influence to get him to step aside.
