  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Are you going to watch the Rio Olympic games ?

I had no idea Tonga is a country LOL! I always thought it was under Hawaii or something
Yep, it's a country...actually a sovereign NATION.

Paces like Gibraltar, Western Sahara, Hong Kong, Bermuda, etc. are often called "countries" but they're dependencies or colonies, not nations...in fact Hong Kong isn't even THAT, it's no more than an autonomous part of China, or some are actually part of a larger nation. If you visit French Polynesia [Tahiti etc.] it's not a nation, you actually are visiting FRANCE and you need a visa for there, if applicable.

For that matter, Scotland is usually called a "country" but it is NOT a nation. At least not yet.

I think there's only about 20,000 people in Tonga...and they have a KING.

They're not the smallest sovereign nation. Not even close. The smallest sovereign nation has a population of less than 1,000...and is an absolute dictatorship...and is basically a medieval walled city-state...with more world influence than even most of the Western Europe nations considered individually. Whoever names it first wins...absolutely...nothing - LOL.

The animation with the little boy has been up for over 6 hours, now.

Is there a rule against posting pictures of children on this site or not?

There was a kid in the shot?

Funny that you would see it.

I think all the gymnasts are beefier this year than in the past. I also think they're taller. I liked the shorter ones better (probably because I'm not so tall... :D )

There are a few taller guys competing, but the average is still 5'3" to 5'5".

Speaking of which there are NONE openly gay olympians from USA this time around. I wonder if this means Americans (as well as Canadians) are still too homophobic in sports?

Canada has no problem with gay athletes. And there are gay athletes in Rio from both Canada and the United States.

You can see that the link is still there so you, or anyone else, can look and see. And, in case no one ever told you, not everyone is part of the ‘something shiny’ crowd.

So, is this you just pretending to be stupid, or are we witnessing the real thing?

Perhaps I should put this inquiry directly to your impressive posse. :)

^He's always looking to start some shit.

^ Now don't be bitter.

Hint: There's another thread with a pic of a kid in the background that has never been removed.

Good Hunting.

I'm watching the women's road race (cycling) at the moment and it's amazing how many of them are watching the race on a tiny cellphone screen as the riders ride past them.

Put down the cellphones and watch the race!

I was going to but I realized that I just dont care enough. I have better things to do with my time.

OMG, did anyone see the gymnast Samir Ait Said break his leg? It's hard to look at. Poor guy. :(

Our gymnastics co-analyst, Kyle Shewfelt, is a former Olympian. He and his co-host were discussing the accident and Kyle said, (paraphrasing) "I saw his leg going the wrong way and I had to turn my head."

By the way, did you see the biking crash in the women's road race? Annemiek van Vleuten was leading quite securely when her read tire slid out from under her on a downhill bend. Photos are from video taken by the chaser motorcycle:

It took quite some time before the commentators were able to announce that she was conscious and in an ambulance on her way to hospital. She suffered a concussion and several cracked bones in her spine. (She landed on the curb on her back.)

Here's the tumble:

In the little bit of the Olympics that I have seen the athletes don't have very revealing outfits this time. The swimmers have longer suits on and the sand volleyball outfits weren't short enough or tight enough for me. I'm sure that if I see diving later they will have smaller suits.

I do not want to watch people in pain.
If you do, go to bestgore dot come LOL

The swimmers' suits are designed for hydrodynamics. A few years ago, they came out with full-body suits. They didn't last very long before they were banned. Even average swimmers were breaking speed records.

The men's beach volleyball has always had the players in long shorts and baggy tank top T-shirts. We women, on the other hand, wear the skimpiest of bikinis.

A bit of a double standard.

^ Just watched him. Lushilicious indeed!

I read an article this afternoon about his grandmother. She's rather popular on Twitter.

They have reporters at her house so we'll no doubt be seeing her all over the morning news shows.

Damn, you've had me fooled. All these years I thought you were a guy. So Neil is short for Tannille?
