Being out and showering with straight guys

Hopefully you get to use one of these!!!

If I'm in changing room situations like this, I have my towel draped around me. Primarily for the sake of privacy, obviously has to be a long &/or wide towel.

And logically helps to conceal any erection I get. I always use tricks like that in public situations.

If it's one where I can't get any privacy efforts done like that, I don't go at all. If it's a communal shower that at least doesn't have those dividing wall things, etc, then I'd refrain from using it period.

Easily solved

We also have a shitload of public pools here and all the showers are communal (and of course mandatory for hygienic reasons).
The mandatory shower thing, including those signs that tell you that you NEED to remove your bathwear and clean the circled areas, are quite a scandinavic /northern european thing. here most teenagers and young adults would not remove the swim wear .. older people usually do so. hopefully chlorine helps ;)

It's just such a normal every day thing over here to get naked and shower around other guys that it kinda throws me every time I see a question such as this one asked in various gay forums.

well .. nudity is .. SHOCKING in the US. remember when all hell broke lose because some kids might have seen an exposed nipple during the super bowl?

or picture this: in most US saunas people either wear their bathwear or are completely wrapped in towels! just sitting on your towel could be seen as indecent ..

But, but, but... other people swim in that [/quote]

Haha, yes, I remember that hullabaloo. One of my favourite songs was inspired by the media storm that followed (that and Bush's anti-gay stance)

The scene in locker rooms is one of either modesty or exhibitionism. Some guys walk to and from the showers with a towel wrapped around their waist. But other guys seem to flaunt their sexuality by walking around naked.

This is what I'm talking about. There is a long hallway from the shower to the open locker room. One guy I know of walks butt naked (beautiful ass) down the hall while he holds his towel in his hand time and time again.

I don't get it. I guess he wants people to see?

This all brings to mind the shower scene in that television show about plastic surgeons with Mario Lopez naked...
Great scene--but come to think of it, what posh sports club that rich doctors frequent would have a communal shower?

I always found it weird how people have been forced to shower in the nude with others. When i did swimming as a kid i'd shower with dividers. In high school we'd shower after P.E. but we'd all have swim shorts on (we usually only showered after swimming.)

If i was ever forced to shower naked with other men i'd feel border line molested. My advice is not to shower with them at all and just shower when you get home.

I am in total agreement! I could be wrong, but I don't think it is required to shower at the facilities after practice or a sporting event. OP, save yourself some stress and just change into some comfortable clothes and go home to shower. If these friends of yours are on the team they should support you in this decision. If they don't support you, kick them to the curb.

Butch up, cupcake. You have a big scary skull as an avatar, FFS!

I was asked something like that twice. The first guy told me that he feels awkward. And I said: "you feel awkward? Imagine being in a shower full of nude girls. How would you feel?" The other guy just told me that he thinks it's unfair because I might check them out and they are not interested in checking me out. I told him that he could turn gay any time if he wants to check people out. Or just continue pretending to not check them out :)

You shouldn't tell people that people can "Turn" gay any time they want or they'll start to believe it's a choice especially if they hear it coming from a gay person. Joking or not.

Actually .. no. This is quite the moment where he realizes that he can in fact NOT just "turn" gay and immediately sees how stupid it is.

lol at you saying you're "not attracted to str8 guys"

thats one of the single most idiotic/moronic things I think I've ever heard.

I don't get it either. We've been changing in front of each other for phys.ed classes since Grade 2 or 3 or even earlier if your parents signed you up for swimming lessons, and they all did.

I don't remember a stage in my life when I wasn't in a pool somewhere and getting showered and changed in front of other guys.

If you grew up that way, it is like asking "How do I handle standing in line at the grocery store if the other guys know I'm gay." Well, you just do.

It isn't that you aren't not gay enough...you apparently have grown up in an environment where nudity has been something to be ashamed of and the naked body has been overly sexualized.

How anyone would feel molested by having to shower in the same area as other guys...I just don't get it.

Wow. I really never knew so many people were uncomfortable with communal showers.

It's somewhat ironic, because when I think about it objectively I would imagine myself being uncomfortable, but I'm not. Granted, I've never played sports, and when we had gym class growing up we didn't take showers. So maybe that contributes to it. However, I've been in communal showers multiple times before with no problem or embarrassment.

I've even seen (presumably straight) guys with an erection in the dressing area. No one said anything or paid any mind.

Whenever it came to public showers, I've always been more worried about people stealing my stuff than I was about being naked around other guys. I'd feel creeped out if I had to be naked around women, but around other guys? Not really. Not unless I knew I'd be on display or something and have my body judged. But of course, everyone is just there to change and take a shower... and we're all guys... with the same stuff... so... it was never a big deal.

I'm more embarrassed to be naked and examined by a doctor than I am in a communal shower. Ironically, as I told someone before, it's not being naked that bothers me. It's being the ONLY person naked that bothers me. When I have a physical or something, there is part of me that just wants to tell the doctor to take his shirt off or something; at least meet me half way so I'm not the only one flashing skin.

Do you think showering with other naked men makes you tough?

No, I'm saying you should man up a bit and not feel like showering in a semi-public space is akin to being molested. It's just a naked body; we all have one under our clothes, and and unless you are the one person at the very end of the scale there will always be someone else in the world more un/impressive than you.

It may feel awkward the first time, but I'm sure after the first few times it will seem like no big deal and you will be totally bored with the whole thing. Seeing the same guys again and again can get kind of boring. I wouldn't even bother thinking about it any more. If any of them have a problem with you being there, then that's their problem, not yours. A real man doesn't care.
